  • It was a pleasure to work with Mister Chimney's crew because everyone was friendly, polite, professional, on-time and on-budget. Martin Nava, who supervised our project, first visited our house to evaluate the old chimney and inspect the fireplace itself. He diagnosed the problems immediately and gave me a firm price quote. The final price was exactly what his quote was. He did not write up a contract for me to sign before he started the work, and after they started I had a fleeting thought that I should have requested a contract to avoid any possible misunderstandings after the job was done. But in fact, we did it all on a handshake and Mr. Chimney's crew was 100% honest and reliable on the financial details. (However, it is smart to ask for a written contract signed by both parties before any construction work is done on one's house because contractors can place a lien on one's house if they allege that the bill was not paid in full. If one only has a verbal understanding sealed with a handshake, one has no proof of what the original quote was!!!  I knew that...but Martin Nava exuded honesty and confidence and I didn't ask for a contract when he gave me a verbal quote.)
    Martin Nava also gave me a completion date that was only a few days into the future. I was wondering if he could really meet such an ambitiously soon date, but in fact, the crew completed the entire project the day before it was promised to me! Wow--how often does that happen?? Really excellent service!!
    I wrote all of the details in the previous box under, "What Did The Provider Do?" so it's all up there.
    To summarize, I appreciate Angie's List's having helped me find Mister Chimney, and I especially appreciate Mr. Martin Nava and his excellent and hard-working crew of experts for doing our project very well, quickly, and exactly at the price quoted in advance.

  • Scheduled with office. When an issue came up with the schedule, office called well ahead of time and worked to make things right.
    Initial visit was to clean ducting, but upon crawling under the house and looking at the duct work, we came to the decision that the ductwork needed to be replaced, in part due to an initial substandard installation.
    Worked with the office to reschedule and they showed up on time and finished ahead of schedule.

  • I live in a condominium complex and 2 of my neighbors and myself decided that it was time to get our dryer vents cleaned. I found and quot;Chimney Clean and Carpet Clean Companyand quot; here on Angies's List and thought I'd give them a try since my previous experience with other companies was not very satisfactory. I couldn't have been more pleased. Everyone, including Sheila, who scheduled our appointments for us, to Kit who actually performed the job was very professional and easy to deal with. Kit pulled my dryer out from the wall and cleaned out the duct that goes from the dryer to the wall and then went up on the roof to clean out the rest of the vent. He told me that he cleaned a lot of lint out of my vent which made me happy that I decided to have this done. Now, I can feel safe in my home again!! My neighbors told me how pleased they were as well. We all decided that this is the company we will contact again for vent cleaning.

  • The proprietor himself did the work with a young assistant. Both were exceptionally neat, immediately placing pads over my rugs. They arrived right on time (maybe even a little early) and were extremely pleasant people. I had neglected to have the chimney swept last year, so they really had to work hard and they did so with no complaints. I highly recommend this company.

  • It started well and ended well. In between was a bit of a bother. John came to our house just a few days after we called him, and arrived a few minutes early. He cleaned the flues ($150 each) and then cleaned up the crud that fell into the fireplaces. But after he left, we operated the dampers and a lot more crud fell out, especially from one of them, requiring us to clean up again. As others have stated, John likes to talk a lot and tends to walk around the house, visiting rooms that are not en route to a chimney he is cleaning. We kept some doors closed, and that helped. But in truth, we found his stories entertaining and educational, and didn't mind much at all. While he was working, John patiently answered our questions and gave us some promising suggestions. He sold us a heat reflector shield ($275) for a fireplace that had charred bricks on the rear wall and wasn't heating the room. He had one the right size in his truck and installed it. We haven't made a fire yet this season, so I don't know how much help the shield will be. John also measured for two screen-type chimney caps to help keep out leaves and varmints. We paid him a $65 deposit on this $140 purchase (two caps). He said they would be ready in 1-2 weeks. After 10 days, we started phoning him. He returned some of our calls and kept promising to install them "this week," "the day after tomorrow" or even "tomorrow". But he didn't show up until November 13. The installation was difficult because of the shape of our chimney, but he got both installed in 10 or 15 minutes. He apologized for the four-week delay and refused payment for the balance we owed him. I said I would use this company again. But if I bought any products, I would be wary of paying a deposit and I'd get John to commit in writing to an installation deadline. After a flue cleaning, and before John left the premises, I would test the dampers to be sure there was no lingering crud. But maybe these policies would be wise to apply to any maintenance professional.

  • Hugo and Jose arrived about 15 minutes early for the chimney sweeping appointment. Jose did the work while Hugo watched. When the chimney and fireplace walls had been swept, Hugo wrote up the report/bill. The amount of the bill was $115 as quoted. However, Hugo wrote that the chimney was "not OK to use" because the "fire box back wall is cracked." To be able to use the fireplace, he quoted $350 to patch it to last only 1-2 years, and he quoted $750 to replace the back wall to last at least 10 years. I asked Hugo to show me the damage. He pointed to where he said it was cracked, but I couldn't see it. A few days later, I called another professional chimney sweep company to get a second opinion. The second company came out and inspected the fireplace for $79, and wrote a report concluding that there were no cracks and the "firebox is in satisfactory condition - Ok to use." I called Mister Chimney and related what happened to Fatima Rodriguez. I said if I had taken their word for it and asked them to perform the recommended work, rather than paying for a second opinion, it probably would have cost an extra, unnecessary $750. She seemed sympathetic and said she would speak to the owner and call me back later. She did call back and said that the owner, Martin, had decided to send me a refund for the cost of the second opinion. That refund check for $79 has been received.
