  • We are very pleased with the final results of our kitchen and guest bathroom remodeling project and the fine work of Preferred Home Builders. From the initial meetings with Aviv, who helped us to plan and design our project, to the final fixes and patches at the end of the project, we were impressed with their professionalism, efficiency, attention to detail, and fine workmanship. We are grateful to all involved: George, the foreman; Daisy, our main contact with the office and the person who did the scheduling; and all of the various workers: Ricardo, Nixon, Miguel, George, Marcos, Brandon, Luis and Huber. They were always on time, followed HOA guidelines, worked efficiently and thoroughly, showed courtesy, and exhibited great skillfulness in their work. We are particularly happy with the beautiful cabinets, gorgeous countertops (the photos don't capture how nice they look) and wonderful tile work. They really place a priority on excellence. As with any project, there were delays and obstacles to overcome. The five-week estimated project length ran over by two weeks, but that was not the fault of the contractor. We had some challenges dealing with unreasonable and overly zealous city inspectors whose demands were sometimes ridiculously stringent and often contradictory. Our contractor handled each of these challenges as well as they could, and they provided us with needed reassurances when we started to get nervous and impatient. Daisy and Aviv, in particular, were calming influences during the project. We have worked with two other contractors in the past, both at our former residence. One of them, now retired, was superb. The other was horrible. We are able draw on those experiences to provide a contrast to this most recent remodeling experience. What I can say is that Preferred Home Builders exceeded our expectations, and we do not hesitate to give them our highest recommendation.

Great tile setter, beautiful new master bath with custom-fitted walk-in tiled shower - white subway tile with glass mosaic trim, grey concrete floor, quartz top vanity, glass backsplash, etc. He demoed the existing bath, reframed it including construction of a new ceiling and insulation in the walls. He also installed and painted 7 interior doors and their frames, and repaired drywall in the ceiling.

  • GoodFellas construction build a new guest unit for me where my old garage use to be. I had trouble finding a good company with all the bad reviews out there, and it seems good fellas had significant amount of good reviews. We start the contract about a week after we first call them, Danny showed up and worked with us on the project. I couldn't be more happier. Will recommend them to anyone!

  • As above!! 3 months projected and 6 months later the job had to be COMPLETELY 100% torn down and started again by another company. I had to bring in Westlan Construction to fix their mess! I can recommend Westlan or Alisal Builders in the area.

  • Although there were some issues, I cannot help but give these guy an A rating because their work ethic and overall desire to always make things right at every turn was simply over the top. They were honest and professional from start to finish, did an excellent job and kept the project on track and within the budget. We spent over $100,000 with A.G.A over the course of a year and I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Work was done to code with regular city inspections and overall everything looks great.

    Condo, top floor, 3bed 2 bath with roof deck
    Work Performed
    Gutted an existing powder room and turned it into a laundry room
    Demolished a wet bar and old laundry room and created a full bathroom in its place
    Leveled the floor of the entire top floor loft of the condo
    Rebuilt and tiled the entire roof deck which was deteriorating and leaking
    Rebuilt a redwood planter that runs the length of the roof deck
    Replaced the 14' sliding glass doors that lead to the roof deck
    Replaced and painted all doors and hardware throughout the condo with moulding (6 doors)
    Patched and resurfaced all walls with skim coat to get rid of 1970's textured surface
    Painted entire condo interior
    Replaced and painted all doors on two full size closets
    All demolition, plumbing and electrical for the above work, some was quite involved to ensure that we conformed to city code for condos
    What Went Right
    They showed up pretty much every day they said they would and did all work as specified and to code. The end result ended up looking great, and when things were not done to our satisfaction, A.G.A. would usually bend over backwards to try to make us happy. There were not a lot of surprises or any real cost overruns. When there was something that we hadn't anticipated (needed to level the upstairs loft of the condo) I was comfortable enough with Ilan to have a verbal agreement that it was obviously going to cost more without bothering with a change order. Probably would have been better on my part to insist on a change order, but it speaks to how honest these guys were that at times, I didn't even care because I knew they weren't out to nickel and dime me or screw me over. In fact, as far as costs go, I am pretty sure they ended up losing some money on our deck job since it ended up being more involved than they anticipated. But instead of passing on the costs to us, A.G.A. just ate it.
    What Went Wrong
    As far as design goes, it was up to me and my wife to figure out how we wanted things to look. If you are looking for an HGTV-esque contractor who comes in with samples and helps walk you through options for how you want the shower to look and what finish to use where, this didn't really happen with us with A.G.A. This was ok since we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, but it's worth mentioning.
    Also in order to keep costs down, it was us to me and my wife to procure finishing materials (tile, moulding, etc) and even large items like doors. Lastly there were times when A.G.A. would ask us to find our own guy to do work that they didn't perform, such as buying and installing Silestone countertops in our bathroom. Later, when the vendor we found ended up doing a mediocre job, A.G.A. would come back at us and say "Hey, you should have asked me...I have a guy that could have done that!" This happened a couple of times and it was frustrating.
    There were other small examples of disorganization on A.G.A's part (asking us to order specific sized doors for the laundry room, which turned out to be too small - not once but *twice*) and a few instances where the last 10% of the work was never quite up to the quality that we expected (some sloppy finishing work here and there), but since they would always try to come back and fix our outstanding issues until we were happy, I really can't fault them too much.
    There was a problem with part of the deck leaking after the first heavy rain, and they fixed it immediately. I still need to have them back to repair some interior water damage caused by the leak, but I am waiting until some other roof work is done to ensure its not done prematurely.
    Overall A.G.A. did a fantastic job. There were a few hiccups here and there but the fact that they were so honest and did everything they could to make things right when there was even a small problems counts for a lot. I think we got very lucky choosing A.G.A.. I have heard horror stories of contractors not showing up, refusing to fix shoddy work, overcharging and generally being a nightmare to work with. A.G.A. was the complete opposite of this and it was refreshing and a relief to do business with a contractor with integrity and a solid work ethic.

  • OVERALL we were disappointed with the project management.  MOSES over promised and under delivered consistently which made for a lot of waiting on our part and general discontent. The project took TWICE as long as advertised. There were many days of no work or only an inspection.  Skyline will say the delay were due to problems in scheduling 4 different building inspectors which is only partially true.  The scheduling of inspectors was not handled well.  We might use them again, but with a different project manager. 
    We were very happy with the quality of the workmanship and impressed with the workers themselves.  Most of the finish work was by subcontractors including tile, plumbing and electrical.  The finished bath look very nice!
    Here is a chronology of Events:
    Initial Visit - About a month before the work started the project manager MOSES met with us.  He was very friendly and accommodating and pleasant.  He explained what was covered under the coupon and that the Vanity area, new vent fan, and replacement window were extra and we signed an additional contract for $5175.  We were going on a trip in 3 weeks; MOSES advised they would be finished with the job in THREE WEEKS, no problem.  (It took SIX WEEKS to complete.)
    WORKDAYS (excluding weekends and holidays)
    1st Day (Thursday) - They arrived on time as scheduled did a lot of work:  demoed the bath, framed the shower pan and installed rough plumbing for the shower and drain.
    2nd Day (Friday) - Hot mop subcontractor arrived 2 hours late to coat the shower pan with tar.
    3rd Day (Monday)  - Electrician (subcontractor) showed up without prior notice and installed the new ceiling vent fan.
    4th Day - Visits by three different building inspectors to  sign-off the rough-in work.  Plumbing inspector could not sign off the shower pan as the drain plug was not provided and could not hold water for inspection.
    Day 5 - No work.
    Day 6- Termite damage repaired.
    Day 7 - Plumbing inspector signed-off shower pan (only 5 minutes work)
    Day 8 (Mon) - No work.
    Day 9 - Bathroom window replaced.
    Day 10 - No work.
    Day 11 - Demoed vanity cabinet and vanity wall. Installed new wallboard.
    Day 12 - Plumbers did rough-in work for vanity water supply lines.
    Day 13 (Mon)  - No work.
    Day 14 - Finished vent fan exhaust.
    THREE WEEKS had passed since job start.  No where near completion.  We made our trip; no work for 6 days.
    Day 15 (Mon) - No work.
    Day 16 - Inspectors promised, no show, not scheduled!  No work.
    Day 17 - Inspectors no show, not scheduled.  No work.
    Day 18 -  HVAC inspector signed off vent fan.  No other work.
    Day 19 - Plumbing inspector signed-off rough work for vanity plumbing.
    Day 20 (Mon) - Building inspector signed off rough work for vanity wall board.
    Day 21 - Installed metal lath in shower area.
    Day 22 - Building inspector signed-off lath installation.
    Day 23 - Subcontract workers installed mortar coating on shower walls and floor.  Requires 2 days drying time.
    Day 24 - No work.
    Day 25 (Mon) - Subcontractor tile workers set shower tile.
    Day 26 - Tile work continued, shower, bath and vanity area floor tile.
    Day 27 - Plumbers adjusted shower drain.  No other work.
    Day 28 - Tile setting for shower, floor and vanity wall completed.
    Day 29 - Grouted all tile.
    Day 30 (Mon) - Patching drywall for paint prep.  Plumber installed shower fixtures and set toilet.
    Day 31 - Painting.   Plumbers hung vanity cabinet on wall, installed sink and faucet.
    Day 32 - Hung two bathroom doors.
    Day 33 - Plumbing inspector signed-off final plumbing.  Trash haulers removed all demo trash from our garage which had been taking half the garage for 6 weeks.
    Day 34  (46 calendar days) - Building inspector signed off final for the remodel.  JOB COMPLETE.
    For the glass shower door and panel we elected to NOT to use Skyline for this work because of our frustration in getting the project complete.  Ordered door & panel for delivery in two weeks, $1335.  SEE separate review of  CENTURY SHOWER DOOR.

  • Pristine Construction is fabulous!  I had spoken to several contractors before meeting with Pristine. I also just had extensive electrical work done by an electrician I have known for over 15 years. The minute Nathan Moses walked into my home, he said that the electrical work was not done to code. Not only that but it was a fire hazard! I called my electrician/friend who said ?technically, Nathan was correct?. None of the other contractors mentioned the incorrectly installed ceiling lights. That was the point I knew Pristine Construction was the company for me. They continued to impress me throughout the entire remodel. From the design to plan to demolition to installation, Pristine made my extensive kitchen and bathrooms remodel seem easy. Nathan?s team including partner Mike Malka are top professionals in their fields. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters ? they handled each phase of my remodel flawlessly. Some problems arose which seemed insurmountable to me, but were dealt with effortlessly. They finished well before deadline and on budget. If you are considering a kitchen or bathroom remodel, I highly recommend you talk with Pristine Construction.

  • During our kitchen and bar remodel, they were consistently warm, funny, knowledgeable, highly ethical and available. They always answered our phone calls and texts. They kept us informed at each step of the project and checked in person or by phone every day. They listened well and interpreted accurately. They helped us make design choices and select materials. They quoted a fair price for the job, with no hidden costs. We kept adding to our project and the quotes for the add-ons were reasonable. In addition, they met requests for change with good humor and unfailingly good ideas. Their responses were peppered with “that can be done” or “don’t worry about it”, and both were comforting. The attention to detail by all of the Pristine staff is remarkable. Not only Nathan and Mike, but all their employees take pride in their work and have a sense of ownership with the finished project. They were meticulous in their craftsmanship and at the end of the day took great pains to clean and clear up as much as they could so we could live in the remodel environment relatively comfortably. Nathan and Mike have a great eye for color and design and really helped us put it all together. They are perfectionists with high standards that rubbed off on us. Everyone was very patient with our questions and happy to make little tweaks here and there. Bottom line: You can feel secure that you’ve selected the best of the best with Pristine Construction. Your project will begin on time and finish on time (if not earlier than projected). You will be proud to show off the design, color and workmanship. We felt we made good friends and are looking forward to work they will be doing for us in our dining room. We are almost sorry the remodel is finished and that Nathan, Mike and their crew won’t be on our speed dials for a month.
