ASo Cal Builders & Design IncAvi of SoCalBuilders has been exceptional to work with. We hired him to build a ground-up 700 square foot guesthouse in Altadena. We selected Avi as our contractor, from several we had interviewed, for the following reasons: 1. His bid was very detailed oriented and we are used to working that way. 2. When we communicated with him, he was very responsive and always addressed our concerns and questions. He even caught mistakes or omissions on our plans. His emails were very well written and easy to understand. 3. He was very professional, punctual, and business-like, yet personable at the same time. We also felt that he really knew what it took to build a home. 4. He was willing to work with us on keeping our costs down by giving us credit for the appliances and flooring that we had already purchased. Avi did not disappoint. The construction went well, and if there was an issue, Avi figured out a solution every time. We would certainly hire him again if the need would arise.- sandy h.

ASOD Home GroupSOD Home Group is seriously the best group of people to work with! They turned around my complete house - kitchens, bathrooms, floors, patio, backyard and studio were all renovated. It was a complete overhaul and a tremendous job. Everything was so well done, but in particular I need to give a shout out to the work they did converting the garage into an open plan studio unit I can now Airbnb. That work is truly beautiful and has been noticed by guests and realtors for its quality! To give you some context–before SOD Home Group redid my house, it was an old house that had been shown little love over the years. The original bathrooms were in such a sad state–the showers leaked into the basement whenever the water ran. There was little to no natural light in the house at all. Eden from SOD Home Group helped me to redesign the entire house to modernize it into a beautiful home! Oren oversaw the entire project for 18 months so really so much credit for this job goes to him (see further down for even more of my recommendation!) We started with the bathrooms, which was a complete overhaul of the tiling, toilet, shower, vanity, etc. For the shower, they tarred and sealed the base of the shower completely–which has turned out beautifully. Then we did the kitchen which again was a complete overhaul job. Cabinets, countertop, appliances, cutting a hole in the wall to accommodate the new countertop island… it was all handled so well! Then we did floors… for the entire house! These floors are gorgeous–they’re treated reclaimed barn wood with beautiful texture and grain. I recommend asking for them to be double waxed (just my preference) because I like to make sure they’re very smooth, but some people prefer the rougher texture under foot. All the walls inside and outside the house were completely painted. We worked hard to figure out the color scheme. Oren has a great sense of color–he was such a great help in this process!!! I went with a simple gray and white for the exterior paint, which let the natural red brick and wood of the craftsman shine through! I’m so happy with the results–it makes the house look brand new!!! Then the Pearl team moved on to the garage/studio conversion. This was such an epic job I can’t even describe!!! As we began digging, we found that the old garage unit was missing a foundation! Because of city regulations, we couldn’t move any of the existing walls in the remodel, so Oren and his amazing team actually dug under the existing structure and installed a cement foundation!!! This was an epic undertaking and we followed the city codes very closely. Everything was done to code and done amazingly well! The results really speak for themselves, so look at the photos–I now have a 400 sq ft open plan self-contained studio I can rent or AirBnB for additional income! And finally, the team moved on to the backyard and patio! This involved knocking down existing brick wall and digging up 6ft deep concrete installed by the previous owner, which was a complete eyesore to the property! My backyard isn’t big enough to accommodate a bobcat, so the team spent weeks digging up this concrete slab with jackhammers and shovels! What was installed in its place is a beautiful firepit, garden wall, and a new cedar wood fence. They also installed pavers as footpath and new garden boxes for growing herbs. Oren also brought in a team to install a patio cover, which now provides beautiful shade for parties during the day! SOD Home Group did such a great job throughout the whole house, were so professional, and really went out of their way to make sure everything was the best. I had my home revalued shortly after the renovation and it skyrocketed in value because of the work from SOD Home Group. Finally, if you get the chance to be so lucky, ask to work with Oren. You’ll be thankful you did! I’ve worked with him for the past 18 months and I can say without a doubt he put his heart into the project and went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the results. He has impeccable taste, attention to detail, and a big heart for his clients - all winning combinations for a stellar project manager! He has a wonderful network of people who can get him the best deals on materials - he’s loved and trusted by his team! Oren follows up with his clients to make sure everything is working perfectly and to make sure you are truly happy with the result. Oren is a truly good, honest and hardworking guy and I’d work with him again in a heartbeat! I cannot recommend SOD Home Group and Oren and his team highly enough! ASOD Home GroupMy husband and I recently purchased our first home and couldn’t be more excited. The house was not updated since it was built, so you can imagine how many things we needed to do. The kitchen had to absolutely be remodeled prior to move-in, so we wanted to act fast to get the entire job done ASAP. Therefore, we chose the team at SOD Home Group. We knew Oren previously because he had done my brother’s entire home (gutted the entire house) and the make-over was completely stunning. We had Oren come over for an initial consultation on our project and he already had so many great ideas and recommendations. Oren helped us expand our space to a more modern open look. I had a vision for the house and Oren worked with me to make sure it satisfied us. Oren is not only warm and friendly, but he works tirelessly to make sure they address every fine detail and on time! If I had questions regarding our remodel (again, this was our first project) he was patient and answered every question thoroughly. We also had a firm budget, and he worked closely with us to ensure we were in range and always kept us informed of what was happening. We felt so confident with Oren and his team for handling the entire remodeling project. We moved to a brand new home and we couldn’t be more satisfied. Oren gave us nothing but quality! The work included complete demolition, new tiles, new flooring, new custom vanities, new fixtures and plumbing, electrical, painting and every little detail to complete the project. ASOD Home GroupWe had a wonderful experience working with SOD Home Group. We needed someone we could rely on in order to get the remodeling job done in our absence and we chose Oren and his team because he listened well, took detailed notes at every meeting, and showed exceptional skills. He also had a plumbing background vital for the changes we needed at the house. The demo revealed a few problems, so the project took longer than expected, but we realized possibility going in. Oren understood our vision, listened to our ideas, but also didn’t hesitate to add his expert advice, helping us to make the right choices and keeping us from making costly mistakes. He also led us to suppliers who helped us work within our budget. During the project, we met many of his subs and found them just as friendly. The whole time we felt a good vibe from Oren’s team and a lot of mutual respect. At the end, everyone worked quickly to get all the little details finished and completed to our liking. No project is without issues but it’s how a company deals with those issues that counts the most and we found this to be one of Oren’s strengths. Overall, the project went smoothly and we attribute it to the constant communication we had with Oren and his willingness and desire to create something of quality. AAmerican Vision WindowsI’ve used American Vision Windows in the past and praise, hallelujah, bow down to the window Gods.... they’ve come through again! From sales guy Armen right through to the flawless installer-pros of Javier, Alejandro, Leo, and Ian, it couldn’t have gone smoother. These guys know their biz. Gorgeous affordable perfectly replicated windows (we were sticklers on having absolutely identical windows to the 1956 story book ranch ones we had... but waaaay better) installed in what seemed like no time... fast, clean, friendly and, well, AWESOME! Ya don’t need to spend a billion dollars to get great quality lifetime windows guys! Just use American Vision Windows and be wowed. Getting new windows doesn’t have to be a pane in the ***.... (see what I did there? Uh huh? Did ya? That’s right. You got it. I know... hilarious.- Stanley B.

ASOD Home GroupOren was the best! He came by in August to look at the house and give an estimate & we clicked right away. Very calm and competent and a straight shooter, he gave us a ballpark & the written estimate was pretty close to what we had discussed. The SOD Home Group team demolished basically the whole house, remodeled two bathrooms, installed a new floor around the house, added new stairs and finished the upstairs room, installed HVAC, and completely rewired and replumbed the whole house in 4 months! VERY fast, in my experience! All problems that popped up, and there are always problems that pop up with even small remodels were handled quickly and to our satisfaction; even the ones that were caused by vendors/delivery companies! These guys are more expensive upfront than many contractors, but they did not go over the expected budget (setting aside project creep-my fault- and the unexpected- see having rewiring the house above) and the job was completed quickly and with no "shortcuts" that you might experience with someone else to keep costs down. If you value up-front pricing and honest work, you'd do well to give SOD Home Group a call for an estimate.- Marla L.

We originally wanted to remodel the entire first floor of our home and also add a new room so we have been searching and searching for contractors for a while. Our search for a reliable and good contractor ended once we met with Oren. When he heard our ideas and plans, he went back to his office and established a development plan that fits our budget perfectly. AAlbert and his crew from G.C. Woodworking are miracle workers. I have a nice, but older home, in the Hollywood Hills, and the kitchen was in need of updating. Rather than a full remodel, I decided to reface the kitchen cabinets and add a few wood panels. Along the way I also built two new cabinets and remodeled the cabinet area where a new and larger refrigerator had to go. The price was fair, and the quality of work was outstanding. Now, my kitchen looks just like new. Albert was always available to answer questions and always oversaw the crew’s work. I highly recommend G.C. Woodworking for a reasonable price and first-class results.

AI am reviewing Embers West's installation of a Mendota FV44 sealed combustion gas insert (combustion air comes from outside & fumes vent to the outside). The product has a remote with a thermostat & ability to control the flame height, circulating blower speed & a dimmable halogen light. There is electric ignition (no standing pilot flame) & a battery-pack to light the flame in case of a power outage. If you're in the market for a gas fireplace, look no further. Save your time and come here first. You'll be glad you did. We chose Embers West because they had the highest Yelp rating of the several local fireplace businesses (well-deserved - with over 3 dozen reviews). My wife & I had researched gas fireplace inserts online before calling EW & were partial to the Mendota brand. When we met with Francois Tiab (owner & chief technical person), I provided photos & measurements of our 1955 brick fireplace; he agreed that Mendota was our best choice. Francois impressed us enough that we saw no need to check out any other businesses (so I can't comment on his pricing versus others). He was personable, professional & extremely knowledgeable & we enjoyed working with him. Francois made it clear at the start that our project needed several visits from them but I did not ask for a schedule; the project took 3 months & cost a bit over $8k (actually $500 less than the quote- Serryn (office manager) emailed us to say Mendota was having a sale- we would not have known otherwise). If your project needs to be completed quickly - then you should discuss that with Francois up-front. A few times, I had to call to find out the status - Serryn got us an answer right away each time (also when I had tech questions). The installation encountered a snag & Francois quickly resolved it. This is all normal for custom work. The gas line & electrical connection were installed before EW started. Mario was the installer & he was great (friendly, punctual, took time to do things right, brought tarps to protect the carpet & wore protective booties over his shoes). He used a "sniffer" to check for gas leaks. Payments were easily handled online via their website. Their showroom had sample installations to help select finishes & the artificial logs. The finished job looks great & I'm very happy with the results. I definitely recommend Embers West.
