    Helios Solar Co.
Don't let anyone tell you solar installation can be free or with no money down or any catches.. THERE'S ALWAYS A CATCH. I've had TWO DIFFERENT contractors try to sell me on this idea of a free system, only to come back with outrageous financing options. Finally Oliver from Helios Solar came over, explained the different ways you can pay for solar installation and took the time to dismantle these 'too good to be true' prices you get. After doing my own research.. he was correct. This fact alone put Helios on top of the competition, and we finally decided on hiring them for the project.

A word of advice to those of you who are serious about going through with this project: prep the house for solar. Oliver's analogy of a surgeon prepping for surgery is spot on - replace incandescent lighting, increase your insulation thickness, and make the house as energy efficient as possible. These panels are supposed to be the holy grail of energy efficiency, yet SoCal houses are all 50s drywall and empty cavities. Now for the process, as this is the bulk of what I want this review to be about: when setting up the initial meeting it was obvious their office is well organized. They promptly set up a meeting with Oliver (huge shout out to this young man) who came in with a competitive bid and very positive attitude. After signing off some documents, city permits and site walkthrough were handled by them. Once the stamp was received the installation was brief, professional and timely. Oliver showed up with the crew in the morning and explained what was going to happen, as well as supervising his guys and walking them through what we were planning to do (the project was slightly more complicated than their "regular" projects which I completely understood given my roof layout). After the crew finished, we were connected to the grid and have been able to monitor our system's output since. We even had Helios come back and install more insulation later on to supplement the panels output. These guys are professional and easy to work with. I felt comfortable with Oliver and his crew from day 1 and he proved reliable time and time again. Please do yourselves a favor and contact these guys for your solar needs

These guys are the real thing when it comes to solar. They present information in a very clear way and work with your budget to find the most suitable solution for your situation. I am really happy I chose them for my solar installation project and can't wait to stop seeing these increasing energy bills every month

    EarthChoice Solar
Earth Choice Solar is the best company I've ever used for anything. Their price was very competitive. The quality of their work was top notch (even prompting a remark of outstanding work from the city inspector). And, the customer service is the best I've ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend Earth Choice Solar to anyone.

    American Vision Solar
I'm a retired Purchasing Agent and have purchased almost anything a person can think of from a $1.00 part to million dollar aircraft systems. I utilized my skills in purchasing windows and recently a solar system from American Vision Windows & Solar. After extensive research I came to the conclusion that American Vision was the only company that could meet my requirements which were first rate materials and exceptional customer service and integrity. The windows are beautiful and the solar system is now generating 99% of my power requirements. The lead time was reasonable and the installation was very professional. The Laguna Niguel city inspector even commented on what an exceptional job they did. You will not find a better value or service commitment that American Vision Windows & Solar. I encourage to get other bids and then call American Vision. That's why they are #1 in California window sales. 5 STARS!

    Solar Symphony Orange County
It's been 3 months and I could not be any happier with my decision to go with Solar Symphony for our family's solar panel system. I love the zero monthly electricity bill for the next 20 - 30 years with ROI around 5 years. After having a bad experience with a few big box solar companies late last summer who would give me the run around and use pressure sales tactics to force a lease, I took my time to get educated on solar before making a final decision to purchase my system and take advantage of the 30% federal tax credit too. Mark Nelson was my rep and he made sure everything that was promised was delivered. I highly recommend Solar Symphony to anybody considering a solar system.

    The Solar Spot
This contractor has businesses "The Solar Spot", "The Electric Man", "Current Power Electric Inc" and is an electrician by the name of Robert Alvarez.
I can provide photos if there is a place to upload them, the missing tile pictures were taken immediately after install. The replaced roofing does not run all the way to the tiles as agreed upon. Note the damage all around the panel to the drywall, I have before pictures as well. Drywall was in the contract, but no drywall was done and I was left with what's in the photo.
I did not get the correct inverter features that were actively sold to me and promised and the MAIN reason I went with this over leasing.
He refused to honor his contract or take responsibility for his actions. I had contractors double check his work and found problems and code violations the inspectors missed. After complaining about his work and needing to report him to the CSLB (Contract State License Board) he threatened lawsuits (his associate Robert Decker threatened a lien for DARING TO MENTION that I did not get what was in the contract) and other improper behavior.
He completely ruined my relationship with my neighbor, he got my neighbors so worked up over what he did that they were threatening to tear down my solar install. After that my neighbors report he broke something of his and Robert REFUSED to fix it blaming my neighbor that "he only wants stuff for free". My neighbor had quite enough money to take care of the item, he just wanted responsibility taken.
    - He failed the inspection TWICE and charged me EXTRA for *code compliance* and well ABOVE THE AVERAGE RATE for what was performed.
    - AFTER signing the contract and I already had LOAN FEES, I was told that I either pay more because I have a TILE ROOF or they will VIOLATE contract and leave me with loan fees or perform sub quality work because the extra fees were needed for quality. A tile roof is easy to see BEFORE the bid was made.
This I am sure will be mentioned as a "favor" but really the options they were giving me was "we do not wish to perform sub quality work so pay more than we quoted so that we can actually perform quality work" or "we will violate the contract"
    - He deviated from the electrical plans he submitted to the city and also did not fulfill his contract.
    - He had a salesman not licensed as a HIS, and not on Alverez's license.
    - He had multiple violations of contract license law.
    - The conduit was placed in legal violation, he refused to move it.
    - I asked him not to come early as he wakes up my daughter, he did so anyways not caring about the pain he was causing.
    - I asked him to stop using my ladder as he had his own on the truck, but he did it anyways not caring about rules or boundaries
He has had legal action against him in the past, which can be an indicator of certain personality types.
There is more being added, after the conclusion of a few government investigations and if he continues with his hostile actions toward me. I never received an apology for any of his behavior, only excuses. Blaming me, blaming my neighbors, blaming the contractor's that did the inspection. I had a token amount less than 20% of what it would take to correct offered but not admitting any responsibility for his actions or apologizing. His first offer was minuscule in relation to the cost of correction.
    - If he took responsibility for a small sprinkler repair, it probably would not have gone this far
    - If he had not maliciously threatened me with frivolous lawsuits because I reported him to the CSLB to have the items taken care of it would not have gone far.
    - If he had looked at my proof of damage I provided him and not tried to create stories and find out how to get out of it. Instead actually taking care of it it would not have gone this far.
    - If he actually had feelings towards others other than himself and respected my boundaries and the law it would not have gone this far.

    Sunrun
Gave a proposal. Agreed to their PPA program. Waited for all the city permits to be signed off. Sunrun showed up and installed everything in a day. Waited weeks for SCE to signoff. Sunrun was not the problem. SCE signed off and we are using the sun versus fossel fuels

    Infinity Solar
The salesman Mike was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in all aspects of the process. The crew was very professional, polite and friendly. They went the extra mile in keeping my property clean all 3 days of the installation. They replaced every broken or chipped roof tile even when they didn't break them! They aim to please in every way. The financing they provide makes it a no brainer to own your system. I would definitely recommend them to everyone!! Great job Infinity Solar!

    Solar Power Professionals Inc
We signed up for this in October, 2013 and were told it would be on-line in early February, 2014.  We have a 2-story house with a semi-flat roof, 12:2 slope, over the back half where it was decided to install the panels.  Originally this roof was a hot-tar and rock roof, years later we had sheet metal shakes installed on the entire house.  The plan was to remove these shakes that would be under the panels, install a comp roof in their place, then the brackets for the rails that support the panels.  The plans for the building permit were prepared.  Corrections were made to reflect the roof configuration and work started in mid-December. Appropriate shakes were remove and replaced by a comp-shake section while the electrical components were installed.  In late January, 2014 the city building inspector did his thing and had a couple of items to be corrected, re-inspection was completed and passed.  We have a power provider inspection (SDG&E) to go now with March 25 power-on.
