FEXTORTION. Plain and simple. TL;DR - They held my dog hostage until I gave them money. I have been a client of BPH for a couple years now. My two dogs and I actually used to stop in once or twice a week just to say hi as we were also neighbors. Then with COVID came new procedures that had been in place a couple months before we had our first very awkward appointment. It was difficult because the new processes and flow that they had implemented still had some bugs that needed to be addressed. I wrote it off as just the same painful adaptation that we were all going through at the time. About a month later, I had to bring in my Mastiff, and it became clear that this dysfunction was their new normal. It's important to note, at this point, that he is a Certified Emotional Support Animal and we both tend to get a little anxious when we're apart. That said, I was still prepared to wait outside for an hour or two while the vet saw him. The system is set up through phone calls. You call them when you arrive, they call you when they're ready for the dog, they call you when the exam is over, call when treatment is finished and finally, they call you again for payment. Then, ostensibly, they bring out your dog. The system failed. After my dog's visit had concluded, I spoke with the vet and I began waiting for the 'payment phone call', in a hot car, in the middle of summer. After what seemed like an excessive amount of time, I called. The phone tree machine placed me on hold several minutes before someone picked up. I asked what was happening and they said they'd call me right back. After another extensive wait, I called back again, same result. I waited more. The third time I called back, I just said, "I don't mind waiting to pay but, will you please bring my dog out to me while I wait to pay. He gets very upset when we're apart like this." The person on the other end of the phone said, "No, we won't be doing that." At this point, my anxiety level escalated exponentially. The voice said, "We can't release your dog until we receive payment." Now, to be fair, I'm not entirely sure of the legality here but, I'm fairly sure that even if someone does owe you money, you can't then arbitrarily take something of theirs until they pay you. I felt like he was being held hostage for a ransom. I asked to speak with the supervisor on staff and she basically supported the policy and also refused to release my dog. I hung up in disbelief and shock, but a few minutes later, my dog was brought out finally, well over an hour after his appointment ended. I then received a call from the specific vet that cared for my dog who apologized for the mishap. We chatted for about 20 minutes about the situation and about my dog's condition and I felt much better about the whole thing so I left it at that. Despite the phone call, I was still unnerved by this event for about a week afterward and I heard nothing from BPH regarding the incident since. Cut to today, I submitted an online request for a new appointment and received an email stating that they wouldn't care for my dog any longer. After tormenting my dog and I, they are now telling us to go away. It just feels like petty spite. They dropped the ball and they're blaming us. When COVID hit, hospitals rightly banned all visitors. However, obvious exceptions were made for parents of children. Because the thought of being separated from our children while they are suffering is simply unbearable and unacceptable. For many of us, our pets ARE our children. They tormented us, in the name of money. That's the opposite of compassion. That's not what I want from my vet.

FYes, Dr. Sukhwinder Virk is an irresponsible animal murderer who killed my 6-year-old dog because of his negligence. Aside from botching my dog's tooth extraction, he lied about doing a post-op blood panel and forged documents when called out on it. He is on probation from the State of California and needs to be put out of business permanently. Here is the link to this monster’s state probation record: [*** Link removed ***] It’s too late for my dog, but save your dog’s life and stay away from this moron and his negligent practice.

FWarning! Our pets were held hostage and they called the police when I requested they release them. I'm not going to go into all the detail because I want to put this whole horrific experience behind me. There is a word limit here. If you want the full review look at yelp. But I cannot in good conscious not warn others about the criminal practices. This is our 3rd visit. 1) we were promised a 2 for 1 price. When we got there, suddenly they don't offer it anymore. After asking for a supervisor, they agreed. 2) Our cats were stressed by leaving the home for this reason, I requested that they do not take the cats until the doctor is ready to see them. After 40 minutes of waiting I asked for an update. they said the doctor is ready to see them. They took the cats. we wait 40 minutes and check in. The doctor will see them now. 5 minutes later they come out with a $700 bill! This is for a simple cold. The bill was stuffed with 80% unnecessary fees. Enough eye medication and anti biotic for 10 cats! And they $500 for X-ray because I cat had coughed twice last week. Insanity. For human doctors this would be insurance fraud. They admitted that the X-ray wasn't really necessary. And that we can buy the medication ourself online. Another person calls us and she has a whole new bill with new charges on it. Now with flea medication for every cat. AND They again are charging us $60 extra that I corrected them about twice already. I also asked, is it okay for the kitten to come in on Friday for his vaccination round? Yes! Absolutely! The other person said of course not. You can't vaccinate a cat when they are sick! This was clear that either this person was lying or they are incompetent. At this point, I can hear dogs barking and my cats have been neglected and left in their carriers for over a close to 2 hours!!! So I asked for the cats to be released into our car as we figure out the charges and the treatment plan. Because clearly, there are extreme discrepancies. You know what she said? No. You cannot have your cats until you pay the full amount right now. Not only is this immoral and disgusting to hold a living being hostage. It is totally illegal. I again requested and the response is you pay in full right now or we hold your cats hostage. So I got out of my car and went to the door to ask for our cats to be released. That's when she called the police! This is so horrific that I wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen to me personally. Finally, the doctor comes out and be apologizes. He explained that holding the cats hostage is wrong and against their policy. At this point, I only wanted our cats to be safe. So I paid the full amount and left. What became imminently clear is this: They don't care about your or your pets here. This is not a vet office. It's more like a vet sweat shop. They overbook appointments, give less than 5 minutes for every pet and try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. There is no attention to detail or care for the pets. And they try to pile on as many charges as possible. Our cats are our children as I'm sure yours are the same. And I cannot in good conscious allow such predatory and incompetent behavior to hurt others like it hurt us. And if you have been abused by this office in the past, I urge you to make it known. Contact the veterinarian board and file a complaint. There are rules and regulations in this country to prevent abuses like this and we have consumer and medical rights. And such abuses must not be allowed to continue. I'm sure Ocean Vet will respond below in their "nice language" and saying how much "they care". But actions speak louder than words. The same person on the phone was very "nice". But became extremely vicious and didn't hesitate for a second to call the police when she didn't get 100% her way. There are a lot of honest and amazing vets out there. But this isn't one of them. Please support good, ethical businesses and lets stop these "vet sweatshops" from abusing more people and animals.

AAs a small business owner, it is very difficult to get away for any extended period of time. Finally the opportunity arose to get away for more than three weeks. We were so excited until it hit us; what will happen to our cats? They had never experienced our absence for any length of time and we were uncertain of how this would affect them.
Immediately I started going down the list of pet sitters that had good ratings from Angie's List. From initial telephone conversations, it was clear that some of them, despite their high ratings, seemed all business, and not particularly emotionally invested in the overall welfare and happiness of the pets. This all changed as soon as I spoke to Elke. She immediately expressed interest and curiosity about our somewhat unusual cats and their living situation. Once she determined that she was free, an appointment was made for her to get to know the cats and learn about their habits and surroundings.
The meeting was comprehensive and very complete. Soon she had the attention and confidence of the cats and also understood their living conditions perfectly. She took copious notes as to their peculiarities as well as conditions to be expected in the house and the large yard. She offered so much: to collect mail, water houseplants, even take out the garbage and recycling. Fortunately a friend was taking care of this so I requested that all time in the house be spent entertaining the cats and seeing to their needs.
Their care could not have been better. When we had access to email, she sent updates and even a couple of photos of one of the cats who had become so attached to her that she had to trick him just to get out the front door. In addition, she kept a meticulous daily log of her observations and actions around the house.
Elke is an exceptional person with a real feel for animals and a genuine interest in their welfare. We are so pleased with her services that we now feel confident enough to travel again. Certainly our cats will welcome her return visits!

AWe made an appointment for the next morning and took him to VCA San Martin. (We figured it wasn't an immediate emergency, so a 24 hour emergency vet was not necessary.) In the morning the vet Paulina looked at Bodie. He was no longer limping, so it was not obvious where the wound was, or even if he was hurt at all. Dr. Paulina did find the wound. There was a lot of fur, so it seemed like finding a needle in a haystack. There were some options for antibiotics. I chose a single shot of Cefovecin, so I wouldn't have to give him any pills at home. Bodie was fine after this and did not develop an abscess.

ACANINE SHOWCASEThey charged $5 for toenails which only took a few minutes but I paid them more. They don't take credit cards. They are careful, kind and consistently do a good job. They can't use a blower to dry my dog because he doesn't like noise so they let him air dry. They are on the corner of Wolfe and El Camino but it is hard to get my minivan into and out of their parking lot so I park at Golfland's Wolfe parking lot and walk over. They are behind the ethnic market, facing away from El Camino. You have to make reservations about two weeks in advance but it is the only place I've used that doesn't injure the dog.- Anita L.
