  • I had a master bathroom and a powder room completely remodeled by Ziv and a team of 3 people at American home improvement. Ziv guided me in regards to several major decisions and selections of materials such as the tiles, type and colors of the flooring, cabinets and accessories. The entire remodeling process was enjoyable for me and I didn’t have to run around to many stores and vendors to select the parts so they will all match. They started the working day on time (Monday thru Friday), were pleasant and open-minded (when it came to my thoughts and comments) and they did an awesome job by creating a minor disruption to the house. I really in-love with the two new bathrooms and with the fact that they were both finished in 2 weeks! American home improvement were also excellent about anything related to communication! When there was any type of a need to talk to them, someone was there to take care of it, fix or adjust. Very trustworthy company and good set of skills. I will hire them again for my house of my office.

  • My wife and I interviewed 4 different contractors for this project.  All 4 were within $10K of each other in their quotes.
We met with Mike from open hand to discuss our plans.  We wanted them to be the last quote since I had read great reviews on them and I had an idea what the other contractors were offering us.  Mike sat down and listened to what our vision was.
He then proceeded to show us different pictures of the before and after projects they had previously done.  He brought samples of materials for us to look at also.  He was very patient and understanding of what we wanted.  I wanted him to know that it was very important to give us a true time estimate to complete the project as we were going to move out during the work was being done.  He told us it should take approximately 6 weeks.  His quote included all materials and an allowance for fixtures/mirrors.  Other companies said we needed to buy fixtures on our own and they would install them.
One of the major reasons we picked Mike and Open Hand is that before they started the work, he had the popcorn ceiling tested for asbestos.  He said he did not want to have his workers or us exposed to the dust while they removed it.  Other companies said that they would just have their crew remove it as it was minimal the exposure.
Obviously the removal of asbestos was more expensive than anticipated but Mike did not charge us extra.  He also repaired rotted wood that was in one of the bathrooms without extra charge.  When it came time to place the hardwood floors throughout the house, the crew was supposed to start on a Monday after they had the wood acclimate to the house temperature.  As usual, I came in the morning to check on the progress and they were ready to start.  In the afternoon (during my evening rounds of the project!), I noticed that they did not start on the floors. The floor guys told me the next day that Mike had seen the sound barrier they had brought and he was not happy with it.  He had them order a commercial cork subfloor for the 2nd floor of the house.  Again, it was more expensive than what they had originally brought but Mike did not charge us extra for it.
The project took one extra week than anticipated mainly because we had to wait for the asbestos subcontractor to remove popcorn ceiling and glue on tile before other crews could finish their work.
With regards to painting the house, his crew patched and re-textured every wall and ceiling of the whole house prior to painting.
We were very impressed with their work that we have referred them to our friends.

  • When the floor was first laid, I was very pleased with it. Soon after, it began peeling and cracking. I contacted the company and asked them to repair the damage, but they passed the blame onto me, even though I have been taking care of the floor as indicated.

  • The job took a good deal of time, but everyone I've spoken to who has remodeled their kitchen says that this is usually the case. Diamond Cabinet Refacing was very good at keeping us in the loop throughout the entire process and did an great job on our kitchen. Though not the cheapest estimate we received, my main draw to them was the fact that they don't simply replace the doors and hardware, but instead replace the face frames of the existing cabinets allowing the drawers to be reconfigured. From the initial demolition to every step of the job, the workers were professional, polite, and kept everything very clean. Eric, the owner, was also very helpful in advising us, helping us get the look we wanted for the most reasonable cost.

I've updated this review because it's about 6 months later and our kitchen is now finished. The two largest cabinet doors in the kitchen had to be sent back for the color to be redone about 5 times. The match is still not perfect; the clearcoat is a bit glossier than the rest of the doors but at least the color is right this time. I suppose we could have sent them back another time, but we wanted to be done with it by this point.

In the company's defense, they were very nice about trying to get the doors right and made every attempt to make us happy. I had to take the review down a bit from the enthusiastic "A" I originally gave them, but my overall experience with this company was positive, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

  • IT HAS BEEN SO EXCITING AND REWARDING TO SEE MY LITTLE HOUSE COMING TO LIFE. IT IS BEAUTIFUL. THE CONTRACTOR DID A SUPERB JOB. THE COLOR BRIGHTENS THE WHOLE HOUSE. HE DID A GREAT JOB BUILDING THE PANTRY FROM TWO LITTLE CLOSETS THAT WERE USED AS "CATCH ALLS" AND CREATED A USEFUL/ORGANIZED WALK IN PANTRY. THE NEW CABINET AREA ADDS SO MUCH STORAGE SPACE THAT WAS MISSING BEFORE.
