    D&D Rooter and Plumbing Service
On April 25, 2019, I took a shower in the master bath of my home. When I went to shut off the water, the shower valve failed and would not immediately turn off. It took several attempts to get the water to turn off completely. I took off the fixture handle and attempted to remedy the issue myself. I thought, as I had in the past, all I needed to do was to change the valve and the problem would be solved. Simple, right? No, not quite. The fixture and the entire assembly was at least 15 years old. Im going to take a wild guess and assume that the whole fixture was original and had been here since the house was built in 1982. You can only imagine the amount of corrosion that time and water had done over the years. Screws were breaking off, sleeves were fused to other parts of the assembly. I, by myself, could not remove the valve assembly from the housing. So, I called an expert. Or should I say, I called a so-called expert according to HomeAdvisor/Angies List. Ive used Angies List and HomeAdvisor before and had no real issues, until now. Orlando (David) Flores of D & D Rooter and Plumbing Services, Long Beach called and said he could come out immediately. Of the places I contacted, he was the only one that was able to respond immediately. I agreed to this because: 1. I had contractors in the house working on a remodeling job. 2. With family members still in the house and the loss of a shower stall, the potential for stress was looming. Mr. Flores arrived 45 minutes later than he said he would. (1st Red Flag.) Normally I dont judge individuals on their looks because I dont like it when people do it to me. In retrospect, I should have heeded my intuition about him when I first laid eyes on him. (2nd Red Flag) I told him and showed him what the situation was and asked if he could handle it. He bragged about being a plumber for 30 years and said he could. Mr. Flores handed me an agreement to pay $950 to repair the shower valve. I thought it a bit exorbitant but this being California and needing this shower repaired and working as quickly as possible took precedence. I agreed and allowed him to begin working. The first thing Mr. Flores did was break the decorative ring around the valve opening while attempting to remove it, claiming that it was old and not his fault. Next Mr. Flores ripped open a jagged, massive, 24 x 46 hole in the wall to access the valve and remove it. He then stated he needed to purchase a new valve and handle set for the shower. Upon returning he replaced the valve but claimed he could not get it to sit properly without a longer faceplate screw. He asked if I had any screws lying around that he could use. When I told him, No, he then stated hed have to go to the hardware store to get one. I informed him that there was a Home Depot roughly a mile and a half from my home. Mr. Flores said, I need to find an Ace Hardware because Home Depots people dont know what theyre doing. He then informed me that he knew of an Ace Hardware in Long Beach and it would take him a while to go there and return. An hour and a half later, Mr. Flores completed attaching the valve and face plate and replaced my shower head with a cheap plastic model which I did not ask him to do. After turning the water back on, Mr. Flores said there was something clogging the pipes and the water pressure was low. He then disassembled the valve again and leaked water down the wall into the downstairs where the remodeling crew was working. They responded quickly and told me about the water coming downstairs. Mr. Flores began arguing with the crew foreman about there being sediment in the line and that it was their fault. He claimed he would have to clear the sinks angle valves and the toilet valve to resolve the problem. All I wanted was to have my bathroom returned to normal and have the water pressure back where it was. Mr. Flores charged me for these fixes he claimed I had to have. All in, he went to his van and came back with a bill totaling $1430 on top of the $250 deposit. I asked about my showerhead to which he replied, I thought I gave it to you. He said he would look for it in case he had accidently taken it with him. When I inquired about the huge hole he had left in my bathroom wall he stated, I dont do drywall. These are the events as they occurred with this man. I will swear to them in a court of law. I am of the opinion that Orlando David Flores is a crook, a thief and a liar. I believe he manufactured events to appear worse than they actually were in order to jack-up his fees. I also believe he fabricated the sediment issue to cause me panic and didnt realize the remodeling crew had their own plumber who called him out on this. In order to save face, he repaired the problem but charged me for the additional work he now had to do. I charge that Mr. Flores saw the remodeling work being done in my home and wanted a piece of the action in terms of the money. I am disheartened that Mr. Flores and D & D Rooter Plumbing Services would take advantage of a disabled American Veteran in this manner. In my book, that makes him unscrupulous. I will never use their services again. I do not recommend their services and I hope this serves as a warning to others to beware of this man and his practices.

    GreenStar Home Services
I have never been more disgusted with the behavior of any company before my mother did business with Greenstar Home Services. My mother is elderly and recently widowed. She found Greenstar Home Services online and called them out to retrieve an earring that had been dropped in her bathroom sink. There was no stopper in this sink or the second bathroom sink. Greenstar Home Services came out and then completely took advantage of her. They told her she needed to replace both sinks completely, replaced both faucets. Then she told them that the stopper does not work in her bathtub, and instead of just fixing that, they told her she needed a whole new shower valve, which was not even related to the problem. As if all this was not bad enough, they grossly overcharged her for all the work that was not even necessary to begin with. They charged her $2,000 to replace the shower valve, and I am pretty sure they only replaced the trim itself. (Trip kit is $30 at Home Depot). Funny thing, the valve worked before they worked on it and now it does not. They charged her $500 to replace the angle stop valves on both sinks, which is a pretty simple job, and the parts are 8$ a piece. Then for the sinks and faucets... the exact same parts are at home depot for less than $200 per set, and they charged her $2500 to replace both of them. All because they need a new stopper installed. The stopper parts range from $8-20 depending if they needed just the stopper or the whole assembly. All told, they charged $5,200 for work that never needed to be completed. And on top of all that, they charged her $119 for their discount membership club (annual membership club) to give her such great discount pricing. They also charged her $102 to remove the earring from the P-Trap that they had to remove to install the new sinks anyways. Unfortunately my mother did not call me for advice because she did not want to bother me and trusted these trained scam artists and got seriously taken advantage of. I have already gotten a quote from another reputable plumber in her area for under $1,000 for all the work that was done, even though none of it was necessary in the first place. All the parts were under $500 from Home Depot, and that included a shower valve, which I don't even thin they replaced. I will be following up with the Better Business Bureau, the state's Atty General, Elderwatch (AARP) as well as taking this company to small claims court for this obvious and systematic elder abuse. The initial technician that came out and started the whole scam was Ronny, his supervisor Robert later joined him and they also brought in Danny and Mike to hang around and make it look like a significant amount of work needed to be done. I have been through several remodels of my one and have hired many plumbers. The total scope of work could have easily been handled by one competent plumber in less than a day's work

I found John V. to communicate every step of the project, with any time frame changes, or additional costs, all the while thru process. The sub-contractors very punctual and efficient, always left the area cleaned up. I had 2 bathrooms remodeled, upstairs and downstairs. I would recommend and use Tilebaths again.

    American Home Improvement Inc
We worked with American home improvement and with Tammy as our project manager. We had our complete house re-piped including replacing the main pipe and to remodel the kitchen. Tammy helped us to redesign the kitchen, master bedroom and our half-bath. She was able to present us how it will look like when finished by the 3D design of the rooms on the computer and by making all the changes we wanted. They increased the size of the kitchen by using the unused space outside. It turned out even better than we imagined. American home improvement crew stayed with us during the long remodeling process. It was perfect to have the same people each day and have them working on the house. All the deadlines have been achieved including the city inspections that have been passed. We are very happy with the results of the remodeling and we do recommend them to anyone.

    Tom's Quality Plumbing
We had a great experience.  I called Tom and scheduled an appointment the next day.  He arrived early and checked the issue we were concerned about - a leak in our front yard.  He covered the entire property inside and out and did not find any leaks.
He then discovered that our pool overflow drain was blocked and needed to be cleaned out/adjusted.  He then cleaned it out and fixed all the issues.
One of my biggest concerns when calling people to come give appraisals/estimates on repairing items in and around the house is that the contractor will either overestimate, or create items that need to be fixed.
Tom was very straightforward and honest.  He came early and took the time necessary to check everything.
    I would highly recommend him.

Coast Plumbing Heating & Air Inc
We noticed a warm area of the floor at the area of the leak.  We called Coast Plumbing after reviewing all the reviews from them plumbing companies on Angie's list. They said they would come out to check but there was a $200 charge for leak detection and if services were provided then it would be included in the total charge (or to be waived off in a sense). Mr. Vince Hamada came out to my house and was very thorough in checking to make sure which pipe that was leaking. He spent about 1.5 hr to check the problem.  Since we had call another plumbing company earlier to check on the problem. This company was referred by a my mother's neighbor but they could only come later that day, so we decided to wait for them for the another quote and paid the leak detection fee for Coast Plumbing. The other plumber that came out was not any near thorough as Mr. Hamada and their quote was about $400 higher. So, we decided to go with Coast.  Mr. Vince Hamada was nice enough to come to our house on his day-off  and holiday (Mother's Day) to fix the problem.  He was very hard working, experienced, meticulous and above all seemed to love what he was doing. He was very careful in cutting hole on the wall to get to the pipe. Even though he did not patch these holes but it was easy to patch them yourself because the holes were small and precisely cut.
There was minor problem that came up after the work was done. There was a leak at the main shut-off valves outside the house. I called the company. They sent somebody out to check since Mr. Hamada was not available. That technician noted that it wasn't the leak at the welded joints but actually was below it.  But, after listening to my account of what happened that caused that leak (of the PVC pipes of the lawn's sprinkler system), he understood and said that he would talk to his manager and had Mr. Hamada come back to check. Two days later, Mr. Hamada came and fixed the leak without making any excuses.  We appreciated that this company stood by the quality of their services and were willing to fix any problems that related to their work. Their price were reasonable or might be a little higher compared to that of other plumbers but that was just to cover any complication that could arise such as in this case even though the technician was very careful.  There's only one thing that I wished that they could do to improve the customer's experience was that they should take into account the totality of the work and not charging small things like additional parts like joints or connectors if these parts did not add up to a significant amount.

Needed 30 year old Solar Tank removed.  Called Aabco Solar Services for and estimate.  Doug the owner came out that night and gave me and estimate on the cost and what procedures had to be done.  Doug was very cordial and professional on his visit.  Aabco called and gave me an window time of between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning.  Robin and Miguel showed up at 8:30 a.m.  Rob and Miguel were very professional at their job.  Everything was done promptly and the cleanup was super.  Thumbs up to both of them.  Definitely use this company again for water heater or solar services.

    Mulhearn plumbing
.Work went well. No problems with service with the exception of price. I asked if there was a discounted price thru Angies or AARP or senior discount and all they gave me was a $10 first time customer discount. Other than that work was exceptionally good and prompt when we needed it to be completed ASAP. Pricing was same as if we had not bothered to use your service. Service was completed in approx 2.5 hours. David was professional and courteous and very good to work with. I would recomend his company to anyone with the exception of pricing with Angies List.

Murphy & Sons Free Leak Detection & Free Estimates
I purchased a new faucet at Costco but was hesitant about having it installed since plumbers usually charge so much.
When I saw Murphy's and Sons offering a discount, I grabbed it.
Angie's list says they are good so I trusted that.
They arrived on time and did a clean install.
They were done cleaning up in less than a hour.
It has been almost two weeks and the faucet and sprayer are still working smoothly with no leaks.
    Thank you Murphy's.

    Affordable Handyman
It went great.  Brad and his co-worker are prompt, professional, and know their trades.  The work was done quickly, neatly, and with good results.
I have used these gentlemen a couple of times before, to remove old shower doors from both bathrooms.  They also originally installed my new shower door on the master shower.  This time, they removed and replaced the door, by my request, to accommodate a new shower which was installed by another contractor.
It is a great feeling to find a handyman - (actually 2 of them - a great team) - I feel I can trust.
Quality work with a great price.  Thank you!
