Dog Grooming reviews in La Mesa

They were wonderful. They found out it was my little puppy's birthday. They sent her home with a bag of little treats. They were promised to me, but the lady at the check out didn't get the message, and as I was leaving he came running out to the car with the treats. They're wonderful. I have had different groomers. I could request, one time I did. Its scheduling. You can request your favorite one. I have a lot of great ones, so I don't have a special one.

I have been trying to find a dog groomer in my area that a) knows how to clip a Portuguese water dog, b) is kind, and c) provides a safe and clean environment.  I finally found all of these things in Star Dogs in La Mesa.  The stylist, Rika Otsuka, is a real pro.  She not only did a highly skilled job on the clip, but she was also gentle and loving with my dog -- at a price that was comparable to other groomers in my area.  This was my first visit to Star Dogs but it won't be my last.

    Alpine Dog Ranch
racI have used this service several times over the past six or seven years for my two dogs.  I feel confident when I leave my dogs that they will be in a pleasant, non-caged, environment.  When originally looking for boarding I was dismayed that many of the better known facilities charge up to $8 for each "out of kennel" experience - possibly more, as I have not checked costs in several years.  The facility is very large - several acres - fenced - includes a waterfall and pond in which I usually observe at least one water dog cooling off in the mid-day sun.  Dogs, in small groups, sleep in secured "cabins" which include sofas and mattresses.  The place is "rustic", clean and safe.
I don't imagine owners of small dogs would find it as attractive as those of us with average to large dogs due to the "free play" atmosphere where most (if not all) of the dogs are free to roam at will from morning to bedtime.
The drive is a chore, however.  It takes a good 40 minutes to get there from La Mesa.  After one reaches Alpine the drive is still several winding miles - including a few on unpaved roads.   But it is scenic - and knowing that my dogs are in such a dog-friendly environment makes it worth the drive and the cost.

    Awesome Doggies Mobile Pet Grooming
They are more expensive than taking the pets to some place to be groomed because these are mobile grooming facility.  The woman, I don’t remember her name, who actually did the grooming was just really excellent.  My pets just ended up beautiful and she spent lots and lots of time with them.  She took them out one at a time to the little trailer out there in the front yard and each of them took really long time and they came back looking perfectly.  She spends a lot of time at the beginning for them to get to know her and they really liked her.  She is obviously an animal person.  Overall there were issues with the management of the company.  We were told that there was going to be a window of time within which the woman would come.  I don’t remember what it was but I think it was between 8 to 9 in the morning or something like that.  But they were not there by the end of the window so about 9:15 I called the company to find out what the deal was because I was waiting to do the rest of my day.  At the phone the office lady said that she was about to call me and tell me that they had some issues that morning.  That was a little flukey.  Then just a month or so I was called by the woman who did the actual groom and she said that the owner wants me to write another check because she lost the first check.  I told her that I did not want to write another check so I asked her to have the owner call me.  So the owner called me and said that they doing the accounting that day and that they wanted me to give them another check because the groomer lost it.  The groomer said that the owner lost it and the owner did not give a good answer.  However I told her that I need to talk to my bank and find out about the cost of cancelling the check because it was her mistake and not mine so whatever it is she would have to pay the fee for cancelling the check to which she agreed.  It was $25 to cancel the check and so I send a check for $25 less than what it was originally was also with a written fee sheet from the bank saying it was $25 for cancellation.  Anyway it worked out okay but that was a lot of extra work for me to go through.  So overall I had to do a lot of work in order to get this product.  The groomer was fantastic, she was great.  The dogs loved her and she loved the dogs but the management does not seem to be on top of things.

Groomers On The Go San Diego
I have three dogs that needed baths, nail trimming, and two needed haircuts.  It was very convenient to have Groomers On The Go come to my home and pamper each dog in their mobile grooming van.  While one dog is being groomed the other two are in the comfort of our home instead of being kenneled up at a traditional pet salon.   All three dogs were instantly comfortable with Bryan and his assistant who are definitely animal lovers making them feel comfortable and at ease.   All three of my dogs smelled fresh and clean.  The two that got haircuts also looked great.  Price is very reasonable and competitive with pet salons but the added convenience of coming to my home.

I have been bringing my dog Sammy to Suds and Paws for a little over two years and the experience has always been nothing short of outstanding. The owner and staff are very professional and they really love what they do. When you call for an appointment they always try to work around your schedule. What I really love about this place is that they are punctual. If they say it's going to take two hours then you can plan on that. One look at my Sam will let you know how good they are. Thank You Suds and Paws for another wonderful experience.

    Awesome Doggies Mobile Pet Grooming
They are a mobile dog grooming. I have used them twice. They were very kind to the animals. The staff is really good. The first time they came, they had a big job to do; one of the dogs was really messy.

We've been going to them for many years. I've referred so many people to them. They are wonderful. They treat the dogs well. The dogs aren't caged up. They are accurate with their times. A very loving environment for dogs.

    Doggie Dos by Terri
She is awesome, they are never in a cage, they get taken out during the day. They are incredibly responsive if I have to drop my dog off during the day. The other places charge double or more than they do. It is a very cool place.

We don't like the way our dog looks when the groomers just take the clippers and willy-nilly cut the dog short all over.
So we go thru VERY SPECIFIC instructions on how to trim our dog - leave the tail long, leave the hair on the ears long, and only give a slight trim on the rest of the body. The groomer looked at us, said OK, and promptly forgot all the instructions. Like a high school drop-out doofus she took the clippers and cut the tail short, the ears short, and sheared the body very short - just the opposite of our instructions.
When we picked our dog up and complained her explanation was that she just forgot all our  instructions.
They offered to give us a free trim next time, but since a groom here is less than worthless this offer is of no value.  The only fair response would be to give us all our money back like restaurants do when they serve you a terrible meal. Dog owners should avoid this groomer unless you want your dog sheared by a non-caring groomer.

I wish to amend this report by saying that the owner did write me a letter of apology for the treatment we received, fired the groomer, offered a free grooming and reimbursed us the $45.  Unfortunately, there was a family illness that had kept her out of the shop and she was not aware of what had happened.  While I would never go there again, it shows the owner did take responsibility for the problem and did her best to fix it.
