    Sunfer Insulation
    Everything went fine. I was mostly happy with it. Few things could have been better. Most part of it, I was happy. I don't know if I would recommend them. I am not an expert on how much you can removed. I thought they could removed more of it, maybe that was standard. There was a few whole that they said they were going to patch up, but they didn't. I don't know if I would recommend them. I thought the price was pretty good, it was a decent price.

    The technician Dan went over how the furnace works and explained that HVAC system really needs more air registers or we run the risk of the motor blowing up. When we had installed by another vendor, they addressed thsi issue after the condensor was installed. They ran a diagnostic and sure enough everything was fine since furnace is a year old. What I really liked is the detailed reasoning on whey certain services were recommended. My only gripe is when I asked for an estimate on blown in insulation, tech did not measure the size of the attic space that needed insulation and just quoted based on the size of the house.

    They did a great job. Showed up on time and finished on time. This was for a rental house we own. The offered to save me some money by suggesting that I could skip the wall between the attached garage and the house since there is some insulating going on there but I went ahead anyway. I used then again on the house we live in..

    Sigura Construction Inc
    First, since I live 500 miles from this house, I had to pick a contractor who was willing to communicate with me by email and phone since I could not be on site. Second I needed a company who had experience working with insurance companies. Third I felt  Sigura Construction was working for me and not for the insurance company. Now that the work is finished, I feel this is a good choice.  I made some bad assumptions when this task started. First I thought the insurance company was my friend. Second I allowed the insurance company to use their engineering company to inspect and write up his report which was slanted in favor of the insurance company and caused me some heartburn.

    There was considerable time spent discussing and coming to agreement on the needed repairs to my house. You can tell there was multiple changes to the quote/cost when the first quote from the insurance company was $19,640.07 in June 3, 2013 and their last quote was $81,776.34 in January 31, 2014. One  thing Sigura told me was it may take a long time to fix your house right. The work was done in my opinion in two stages. The first part was to remove the damaged portion of the house that can be seen. When this was done there was reevaluation in terms of what more needed repairs. At first the insurance company did not want to remove the damaged hard wood floor. Once it was determined that the existing hardwood was to thin to resurface and use, the insurance company allowed the hardwood floor to be removed, the damage to the sub floor was exposed. The sub floor was removed and damage to the foundation was found and repaired all with cost approved by the insurance company and Sigura Construction.

    The floor was leveled as part of my cost, but was necessary. Since the damage from the car was approved and paid by the insurance company, the reconstruction of the house moved along well in my opinion even with repairs being done over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. One area that this contractor did was kept his word. I met with the contractor on February 27, 2014 and  during this meeting asked if he could complete this task by March 28, 2014. He said yes he could have it done. I made arrangements for the renter to be able to move in on March 28, 2014. The work on the inside of the house was complete. There was a couple of items on the outside of the house that was not complete, but it did not affect the renter from moving in.

    We braced ourselves for a lot of delays and disagreements but none of this arose. SDMC's owner, Jon Hammer, is a planner. After we signed the contract, Jon spent a good week meticulously ironing out the details down to the plumbing and lighting fixtures, scope of the electrical renovations, and so on. He predicted that any changes would be on our initiative and he called it. When we decided to change something - inevitably to add additional work like insulating under the floor - Jon provided a change order and on we went. No delays, no argument, nothing but service. 
    As in all big projects, we had a few bumps on the way. For example, the primer was not adhering to the walls well around windows and doors. This may have been caused by our taping (my husband and I painted the interior to save some money) or improperly cleaned walls, i.e., the painting subs SDMC hired. Nevertheless, SDMC stood behind its work and re-primered the problem areas at no charge to us. It is when things go awry - and something will always go awry on such a big project - that you discover the professionalism of the GC you hired. We knew we had hired the best company when we experienced how well it handled our concerns about the primer.   
    Jon seamlessly incorporated the work we wanted to do into his project planning. He kept track of what we were doing and kept us on task to make sure we didn't slow the timeline down. He also had several meetings with us along the way to update us on progress being made. He made many recommendations and suggestions about ways to install things, materials to use, and tips for the french drain we decided to install. We benefitted a lot from his experience. Jon is such a pleasant guy that our only regret is we won't see him now that our project is done.

    Russell arrived 15 minutes late & with a ladder. He immediately began trying to sell other services to us. I was very clear on the phone what we needed & my husband was very clear as soon as he arrived that we just wanted a bid on the crawl space--everything else already had plenty of insulation (walls & attic). The crawl space is large & many large men have worked under our house, but Russell looked under the space & declared that they really do not do this type of work. Which makes me wonder why Russell felt the need to waste my time (& his) bidding on a job that I specifically told him that we did not need.

    Excellent job. He started the job five days later. The work was done on time. All the workers were professional and pleasant. The job was completed on time which was difficult because of some rain. Very professional job. The skylights really opened up the rooms. I would not hesitate to recommend this company and would hire them again in a heartbeat. Their prices were reasonable and the quality was first rate. John inspected the job each day and kept in touch. He always returns calls. John and I made a complete inspection at the end of the work. First rate job.
