    Victor's Gardening
WHEN i CAME OUT TO CHECK ON HIM AND THE ROSES, i FOUND HE HAD CUT THEM BACK TO A HEIGHT OF A FOOT WITH JUST STUMPS SHOWING FOR THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I threw a fit, and asked what can we do. He offered to glue them back ??! I said no, you need to go to home depot and buy 7 new rosebushes and plant them today or tomorrow and went back in. I called my fiance for advice and she said go outside and get him to just did some holes in between for new plantings but to go outside immediately because he's probably going to leave. HE DID! The other guy didn't finish planting the impatiens, never got the compost- I basically paid $200 cash for 2 hours and 15 minutes of work. Don't hire him. He is not honorable. His word is not worth anything. I now have to scramble to make my house front not look barren in the eyes of 60 guests, like I needed more things to do before a wedding!

    Juniper Landscape Company
Really well. We were very happy with the initial project, and the ongoing work has been high quality. [I highly recommend using the same company for big projects and the follow on care. Juniper has done a great job making sure our new outdoor living areas stay beautiful.]

    C & H Gardens Artistic Landscape & Tree Service
Kent and his crew did an excellent job for us. The quality of the workmanship is superb, the plantings look excellent and the construction of the pergola and patio are top notch. This is a very professional and nice crew to deal with. Their knowledge of construction and esthetics are exceptional. They are extremely curious and cleanup was excellent. This project came in on time and on budget. We are very please with C&H Gardens and would recommend their services.

    Omega Turf Artificial Grass
I found them at an air show. After the show, they came out and gave me an estimate. The quality of the product was good and the installation was excellent. We're enjoying. Here in San Diego we can't water our lawns anymore so it's nice to have. The price may have been a little high but, quality was more important. We had extra things done. They put down a galvanized steal mesh under it to keep the weeds from coming up.

    Get'er Done Irrigation Repair
This may have confirmed my fears about the "Big Deals" on Angie's List -- that by paying a discount for service you get less service.
Joseph was very friendly and professional.
However, I told him my biggest concern was making sure that my sprinklers were adjusted to provide good coverage (since we had some brown spots) and reduce overspray.  I had adjusted the heads myself but figured some might need to be replaced and didn't want to deal with that myself.  I told him upfront I was happy to have him do any extra work needed and would pay him for it or parts.
Joseph inspected our irrigation system and told me it was "in great shape".  He suggested replacing some of our Toro heads with Rainbirds, but said he didn't feel the need to do that now.  He said he had adjusted some of our heads for coverage.  He recommended making sure our gardener cut grass around the sprinkler heads to avoid blockage (or get higher pop up heads).  I worried that he hadn't done enough but still tipped him $100 (on top of the $55 for the discount service) because I wanted to make it worth his time.
Within weeks we had increasing dead spots in our lawn.  Our irrigation system was only installed 4 years ago -- that wasn't my concern.  As I'd told Joseph, my main concern was getting our sprinklers working perfectly.  They were worse after.  I had our gardener replace heads and install a few new ones instead and we're much better now.
I don't really see the point of a "sprinkler/irrigation tuneup" if the money isn't enough to motivate the business to do good work.  If heads needed to be replaced, I wanted them replaced, and was willing to pay extra for it.  In the future I'll avoid any Angie's List Big Deals -- I would rather pay regular rates for complete, thorough work.

    John's Quality Landscaping
We retained John,  after he did above work,  for twice a month clean-up, incl. trimming of hedge and weeding the (very) steep slope (150.00).
While John is knowledgable, his men are not. They come whenever, so it becomes difficult to catch them and indicate specific tasks that need to be done, such as fertilizing or applying pesticides. Messages left for John remain unanswered.
If he did all the work  himself or was present when work is done the job would be perfect. That not being the case, we had to cancel.

Alex has been doing a great job for us for about ten years or so. He is great and I highly recommend him. Friendly, dog friendly, nice, hardworking, as quiet and unobtrusive as one who works with a leafblower can be! He's great!

    Natural Aspect Gardenscape
From the moment I met Bob Guthrie (owner of Natural Aspect Gardenscape) I knew I'd be in good hands. His was the 3rd estimate I'd gotten and was not the least expensive, but I could tell he was professional, knowledgeable and would be responsive if decided to go with him.  I knew that those qualities don't come cheaply, but having to hassle with a contractor or grouse about something poorly done is something I didn't want to do.
Bob is creative and once he knows what you want, is fine with taking charge...and at the same time, is patient and open to your questions and suggestions. His crew is hard-working and it's obvious there is an excellent rapport among all of them, resulting in a job well done, with pride. Bob saved me money where possible (specifically...irrigation and lighting) and every time I see my now-lushly-growing and beautifully landscaped/lit back yard, I am grateful I decided to go with Natural Landscape.

    Down Under Services
Our grass and bushes were in need of cutting and trimming.  We had a section of our grass that needed to be replaced due to damage from squirrels.  They arrived on time, got right to work, did a beautiful job of replacing the grass and our bushes have never looked that great.  Warren and his team arrived on time, were good nature and very efficient and fair in their pricing for our project.  We will have Down Under maintain our lawn from now on.

    San Diego Landscape Solutions Inc
Brett initially was very prompt in responding to our inquiry (ID'd on Angie's List) last month.  He came by our house to take a look and provide a quote on landscaping/softscaping work we needed done.  He promised to provide a quote within a few days.  Everything fell down from there.  He never provided the quote.  After repeated follow ups, he continued to promise to provide something.  Nothing was ever provided and eventually Brett stopped responding altogether.  Don't waste your time trying to work with Brett.  Save your time/money for a real professional.
