Architect reviews in Kensington

Fantastic! This was a VERY tricky design project where we needed to get very creative with how to make 2 undersized and poorly planned bathrooms not only big enough and functional enough, but also do so while optimizing the other spaces they touched. Jill was exactly the right person for this job - we ultimately saved a ton, and she did what no other desing-build folks would do, which was COME to the house and look at the space, then actually put some options down on paper before we went forward with thousands on architectural drawings. Which was KEY given we couldn't even ENVISION how it would work. She came up with EXCELLENT options, listened to our feedback and suggestions, and was super responsive. The project is on hold for now due to other conflicts, but we would definitely use Jill again!

Feraru & Associates Building & Design Inc
The architect reviewed scope of work and was paid for 2,5 hours leaving w/o statement of next steps. I sent communication to Mr feraru about what the next step to getting bid and starting process. And clarify that his website said initial visit was free. He replied that he wanted to clarify that he wasn't able to do the project. I was stunned and said he should have said this up front and I wouldn't have even had design architect come. I let him know that communication was very unprofessional and money was spent for absolutely nothing. All other companies completed free initial meetings with bid or that they could not start in timeline up front.

    Pacific Construction & Design
The company showed up as agreed. We received an email a week later with a link to the 3D Kitchen resign document. If we decide to proceed with the construction the payment will be applied towards the work.

We are first-time home-buyers and owners and are beginning the remodel process. Jill came for a two-hour consult and was super knowledgeable about the permitting process and building codes, and had some clever design ideas that we hadn't considered. While we ultimately didn't opt to hire her for the entirety of our process, as the design elements are not complex, we learned a ton from the couple of hours we spent with Jill and that time ultimately allowed us to be much more knowledgeable going into meeting with general contractors.

Amazing work in all respects.  Mike Pond and crew did a fantastic job, and the finished product is a beautiful home with remarkable woodworking--and as visitors often remark, it looks like an original, not a remodel!  These guys communicate well and are easy to work with; excellent architects and master builders with great aesthetic sense and integrity.  They provided wise advice and stayed within budget; time estimates were realistic.  We've now been happily living in the remodeled home 7 years and it continues to shine.  Highly recommended.

Working with Maurice Levitch of Levitch Associates was a delight in every way.
rebuilt our front deck with IPE Brazilian hardwood. I am an architect
myself and have worked with many different contractors over the last ten
years in the Bay Area, and none of them came close to what Levitch
    Associates offered us.
Maurice Levitch impressed us with his
efficiency, his strong design sense, his craftsmanship, his excellent
communication skills, his transparency regarding cost, and his
Everyone in his office was a pleasure to work
with, responsive and proactive. His team is made up of highly skilled
craftsmen, who were most courteous, generous, and accommodating
throughout the entire planning and construction phase.
We are very happy customers and are looking forward to working with Levitch Associates many more times in the future.

    ecomodern design
Being one's own general contractor is not for sissies. Yes, I made some errors but luckily no deal-breakers or costly flubs. I was fortunate and grateful to receive the value for our money which I did, working both with bids from sub-contractors in the trades and with talented builders who worked on time and materials. I diligently scoured Craig's List and ranged over the entire Bay Area and found excellent components of our project at good prices. I am retired and had the luxury to make this endeavor my occupation for six months or so and I can say with certainty that I couldn't have done it had I needed to hold down a regular job at the same time. The most vexing phase was obtaining permits, although my experience compares well with others I've met who are still in quagmires and discouragement.
The delay in obtaining permits caused anxiety because we were moving into the rainy season and when you have demolished the back wall of your house you find yourself in an uncomfortable spot. On several occasions Henry Gutman was a helpful resource and assistant in meeting challenges. We, at this writing, are still finishing odds and ends of things, much of which I am doing myself, and we are yet to fully furnish and move in. Close enough, however, to testify that Ecomodern was a terrific asset in pulling this off. Should I endeavor another project like this, he will get my call.

    Tong Architecture
I initially interviewed several architects.  I hired Milton because he listens well, explained his fees very clearly, had very reasonable rates, and -- although he hadn't worked on a project in Albany -- did research beforehand and demonstrated his understanding of the City's requirements and planning and design review and approval processes. I found Milton to be professional, organized, and efficient with his time.  He is very client-oriented and focused on providing a good product.  He was easy to work with and respectful of my ideas.  Milton’s strengths include listening to clients’ input and incorporating it into the overall design, space utilization and planning, code compliance issues, and guiding clients through the various City approval processes. I am very pleased with my home addition.  It feels like a natural extension of our existing house and has good flow and lighting.  I would definitely recommend Milton for your architectural project!

    Andre Rothblatt Architecture
We first read about Andre in the Chronicle and decided to interview him and check his references. All went well and he was Architect of record. My wife and I are working professionals and each has our own small business. We always wanted our home to be design with certain elements of comfort that are also elegant and contemporary. In series of meetings with Andre we were able to narrow down on our requirements i.e., open kitchen, formal and open forayer, large windows to capture S.F. view, etc. In each of these meetings he presented three options for us to discuss and critic. This was very valuable for us to learn how to articulate our thoughts in architectural drawings. Some people are very good at it, but not Farimah and I. In short, Andre encouraged us to be involved in all aspects of schematic design, material selection, windows selection, tile and stone selection, and finish touches and colors. His handholding and going actually to different stores to select materials were very valuable to us, but they were very time consuming and demanding on him. Andre helped during all these steps to make us feel comfortable going forward to completion. He designed series of unique features, including wood work in forayer, curved French door in kitchen, alcoves in the ceiling of dinning and master bedroom. We stayed very close to our budget, but went 10% over, more or less. We would recommend Andre base on his creativity, performance, and personal commitment to his project and his clients. Hope this helps.

We ended up not doing the project because they came up way over budget. The design that they did for us was incredible but they had no concept of working within the budget. They kind of scared us out of the project. The price went up when we cut back the project. They charged us a ridiculous amount for the drawings and designs. They also did a property survey.
