I talked to Brad the owner.  He is very knowledgable and provided lots of information and details, what is the system supposed to do, and what is involved in the installation.  He came over to my house and spent plenty of time explaining the system and what my house required.  I also had a lot of questions regarding the impact of water softening on the drinking water and if it is harmful or not and how it affects the plants.  He answered all my question and concerns.  His installer came on time and finished ahead of time.  The job was done very proffesionally and better than I expected.  I wanted to write the review few months after the job was done to make sure everything would go okay after sometime has passed.  I am very happy to say that the system works well, and I have had no issues with the installation.

    PDQ Appliance Installers, Inc.
My service from this company was superb from the initial phone call to completion of the job!!!  I purchased my appliances  from one of the large hardware super stores but their delivery and installation department was booked up and couldn't get to me for at least 8 days.  I needed my appliances ASAP so I called PDQ Appliance.  They were able to get me scheduled the very next day and  for less money!!!
My installers arrived on time and were extremely efficient workers. It was obvious that they were experienced and conscientious installers because they brought in the quilts and covered my hardwood floors and counter tops immediately.  The openings for both my double oven and my microwave were not large enough and they discussed with me the options of how the cuts could be made.  As the installation progressed they discovered that my cabinets had questionable support to hold my new appliances.  They could leave it as is, or put a support board across the inside of my cabinet.    No pressure at all!  I did go ahead and have them add the extra cabinet support and a new vent for microwave.  My installation was still cheaper than what was quoted to me by the super store!!!
My kitchen was left cleaner than when they started!  I would HIGHLY recommend PDQ Appliances!!!!!

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing - Laguna Hills
Plumber came first week of 9/08, called first, came as scheduled.  Was very professional, knowledgeable, performed pressure test throughout house, determined that loss of pressure was due to fractured sprinkler pipe.  Then, same plumber came for second visit the same week, accompanied with associate whose father specialized in sprinklers.  They together made same diagnosis.  Then, a third plumber came on 9/17, when we provided critical information about water softening treatment.  He turned off the system, which solved the pressure problem.  We so appreciate their professionalism, and now have our go-to plumbing company.

No complaints.  I am a perfectionist and can almost always find something to nitpick but I'm not sure I can here. They sent two installers, one of whom is a co-owner of the business, so they were not messing around; An English speaking person with state of the art expertise was actually around to do the installation. I can't tell you how hard it is to find that with contractors these days and I will tell you that I've been burned by that with the last 3 companies I've hired. Needless to say, they were punctual, explained things clearly, and asked whenever there were any potential sticking points.
Many of you are probably wondering if there are cheaper options out there.  I think there might be, because I know its pretty cheap to buy all of the components, possibly as low as $1000 although I can't be completely sure you'd be getting the same exact stuff. After a ton of research and calling half a dozen companies, this does seem to be the going rate for an expert on water softeners to install a proper system. The cheaper options I came across had systems that would require annual or bi-annual maintenance at $200-$300 a pop (usually the carbon and resin were mixed in one tank or the system was simply too small).   DIY is not an option since I know nothing of plumbing and finding a cheap plumber for the purposes seemed like too much of a hassle and gamble.  In the end, this seemed like the best way to go.  I have a system that shouldn't require anything but adding salt and swapping filters for the next 10 years.

    Timeless Touch Home Remodeling Company
We've renovated two other homes from top to bottom but nothing to the extent of this project. We remodeled and repaired everything in this 40 year-old home except for three rooms in this house. Timeless Touch was referred to us with high recommendations from our realtor. Jerimy Boyd is the owner/operator of this company and he is honest, hardworking and takes pride in his workmanship. He looked after all the permits with the City, the headaches with the Homeowner's Association and started this project off on the right foot. We built a 2nd story addition over the garage, a 1st story addition in the entrance and created a grand foyer, which increased our living space by just under 700 square feet.
We just bought a home that had been flipped by an investor who and quot;remodeledand quot; the home by using cheap granite and just resurfaced the kitchen cabinets by putting another coat of paint on the door but left the 1970's interior intact. We decided to rip everything out except for the hardwood floors and build an addition over the garage to gain two more bedrooms and a bathroom, along with an addition to extend the foyer and den. This was an engineering feat because of all the footings we had to put in to support the 2nd story addition and removing load bearing walls to make the kitchen an open-concept design. Our real estate agent recommended Jerimy Boyd at Timeless Touch, who worked with us from start to finish by recommending a competent structural engineer/architect, getting all the permits and dealing with the Home Owner's Association on my behalf. What I liked about this contractor was that they did all the work themselves vs. hiring a bunch of subcontractors, came on time every day 7:30-4:30 and cleaned up everything each day. My neighbors would come over and always comment on how they appreciated our house not looking like an eyesore, unlike most other construction sites. Timeless Touch guarantees all workmanship and I've appreciated working with Jerimy and his crew because they are honest and respectful of the home that they are working in ( I've experienced 6+ contractors who have smoked inside our other homes, defiled the restrooms, and ruined our linens while wiping their under-washed hands). I would recommend Timeless Touch because I plan on using them again for future home projects. This is a relationship I'd like to keep whereas in the past, I used to always say, and quot;good riddance!and quot; after a project was completed by my other contractors.

    Daniel Cordova Plumbing
Rick was prompt and even wore shoe shields in the house. He reviewed with us all the items we were hoping to get done. He did a good job and we are pleased with everything. He was very professional. The company called us before hand to confirm service and were able to work with our schedules. I would use this company again.

    Tim Moffett Plumbing
They were on-time, clean and professional.  The entire job area was thoroughly cleaned and everything was put back in place!  Also, they programmed the unit and even added a bag a salt!  The unit works as described!
The only critique about this job was I didn't realize they would penetrate through exterior walls to plumb the overflow drain and they took the cut out sheet rock so I can patch it back.  The latter issue isn't that big - in fact, I see them to be so thorough in their clean-up, they take everything that is considered trash!
As for the penetration through the exterior of the wall, it would have been nice to know ahead of time so I could schedule someone to patch up the exterior wall before any moisture gets in.  On the other hand, I should have asked more questions.  So, it is a two way street.
I will continue to use Tom Moffet - they are coming back to replace nearly all my angle valves next week as well as other plumbing needs.i

    LifeSource Water Systems Inc
We contacted Life Source Water for an estimate on the purchase and installation of a whole-house water filtration/softening system.  Mr. Howard Anderson came out and was gracious and informative, even though his initial appointment time was usurped by a competitor.  Although he didn't have to make much of a pitch - my parents have one of these systems -- he took the time to explain the technology, the current promotions, and suggest an installation.  The technology is rather controversial and Life Source Water puts a LOT of resources into their marketing (giving systems away to celebrities, etc., etc.), so it can be a bit overwhelming.  Also, Mr. Anderson is a very hard-working representative, so while he is very responsive, please let him know definitively if you are not interested.  Otherwise, he is very persistent and punctual about calling you.  A couple of things to keep in mind is that (I think -- my memory may be failing me) Life Source does not self-install.  They can recommend installers, but they do not do that, and it is up to you (or the plumber -- mostly you) to take care of the permitting.  And -- as with everything associated with celebrities -- this system is pricey compared to most.  That's where Mr. Anderson's persistence comes in handy -- he can let you know when the promotions are.  Based on what we've observed at my parents' house, we're definitely considering this system.

    McCowin Enterprises
We contacted them for an estimate and information on a whole-house water filtration and softening system. Brian McCowin (the son of the company founder) came out to give the pitch, and did a wonderful job. He was very thorough and careful to educate us of all the options (e.g., whole-house vs. under-counter, softening vs. filtration, different levels of filtration, and traditional saline softeners vs. new ion technology), and even did a test of our water. In terms of pricing, I gave a "B" only because they have an EXTENSIVE range of products/product lines, and while they offer the most competitive prices for the product and installation, they do not participate in the manufacturer promotions that are available direct. So, based on your plumbing situation and what system/product you pick, your price can really range. Also, while their marks for everything else were commendable, the punctuality could use some work. Mr. McCowin arrived towards the end of the given window (the last two minutes), which is excusable, except that the meeting then ran so late that the representative for LifeSource Water arrived just before he left. The situation was so awkward that the LifeSource Water rep. gave his card and information and politely excused himself, offering to re-schedule. Overall, if you're looking for a one-stop shop, and would rather not deal with multiple parties, this is definitely the group to go to. If you're doing some serious bargain hunting, this is still the best place to start the search. They are a great index of what is worth shopping around for, and what isn't. I should also mention that if you are in the South OC area, they can do everything from A to Z - including permitting - which is worth considering.

    Allstar Water Systems
The particular serviceman, Tom, who came out was extremely knowledgeable, and I enjoyed having him come in. I learned a lot about the system. He was even able to give me enough information that I could service it myself if I really needed to in an emergency. He even took calls while he was here instructing other serviceman. I would trust him to come in and do what was necessary to get it done and not slug a lot of parts in. When I called him in, it was to do a specific job, and there was an expensive part that I thought would have to be replaced. He saved me money by informing me that I didn't actually need to replace the part. They do a lot of work with Kinetico parts.
