Fireplace Repair reviews in Hidden Valley

    Superior Chimney, Inc
We have two gas fireplace inserts. One was leaking gas so I called Fireside BBQ and Appliances because we bought it from one of their two stores. They recommended Ara. He responded the first call and came over to look at the fireplace. He said well it needs a part that you will have to order. My services are $250. He asked for $150. I asked why because its not repaired. I knew it wasnt working. He said that he would back and finish the repair when we get the part. He seems to have fallen off of the earth because I have called, texted and called. He has not responded. Basically, I paid for him to tel me its not working. I would never use this company.

    SOD Builders
SOD builders demolished and remodeled several parts at our house. They did our kitchen, two bathrooms and 2 fireplaces (1 at the formal living room and the second one at our master bedroom). While the people were working at the house they always tried as much as they could to keep the house clean and well organized. This was one of the main things that we truly loved to see because we were living at the house during the remodeling. The kitchen and bathrooms were demolished completely while we were able to use other parts of the house and Gal who managed this entire work, helped us in all the purchased, communicated with us on a daily basis and each Friday, he gave us a detailed progress report that kept us in the loop of the work. Our home is a lot more than the way we thought or imagined it will become and all of it is definitely because the people that were involved at our house. Shirel, at the office was really detailed and professional in regards to all the documents, paperwork, payments etc She made sure to update us with any news or issues with her department in regards to our remodeling project. The guys who did the actual work (including several sub-contractors), always worked hard and they made sure that everything will fit perfectly and without any mistakes. They were polite, quite, respectful and professional. The finish project is stunning. We strongly recommend them to anyone!

    Arellano Masonry Inc
With over 30 years of experience in the masonry business, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and connections to get the job done right. He is an excellent communicator, honest, timely, and dedicated to exceeding the customer's expectations. He and his crew deliver high quality work at a fair price. Jeff has done a lot of great indoor and outdoor masonry work in the Westlake Village area and comes highly recommended from all his customers.

Ralph steered me by phone where to shop for stone for the fireplace, and scheduled an appointment to see our fireplace and bid some repair work and façade replacement. At the appointment time, he called to say he was waiting for an inspector on another job and kept me waiting for him. He later texted that he couldn't make it that day and would reschedule. He didn't return or take my calls after that. I felt deceived about his availability, and annoyed that he wasn't on top of his schedule. I notice this is not the 1st review saying he flaked out on an appointment.

He still gave me an estimate for filling in one side but he told me that I shouldn't hire him and I should just leave it the way it was. We went the next week and got gas logs to put in it. It is beautiful and has been working ever since. It is wonderful. He saved us $200-$300 for somebody to just come in and brick it up. He was a super nice guy. He didn't charge us anything. He suggested a guy to do our mantel that we are going to use.

    US Home Developers Inc
Overall, things went great. We did hit one rough patch, but ultimately I think it tells a better story about these guys than had we not had the hiccup at all.
As noted at the end of the description of work, we had asked for them to tack on install of crown molding and baseboard to the 2nd project. They were happy to accommodate for an agreed upon price. After the tile work on the fireplace was done, we noticed that one side was slightly wider than the other. We expressed our concern about this to Tom, and he immediately lined his guys up to come back out, tear down the tile, add a slight adjustment to the underlying frame (so the new tile would be perfect). It was another full day of work.
Not only did Tom do this without even suggesting that we pay more for it (i.e. he ate the cost of getting it done right), he threw in the crown molding and baseboard for free as an apology for the inconvenience. We did have to pay for the 2nd round of tile, but that worked to our benefit anyway because we opted for a slightly different shade of tile, having seen the previous shade and not really caring for it.
All in all, I highly recommend US Home Developers. We just bought a new house and have other projects that we plan to do- we'll be using Tom and his crew. Their prices were competitive with other bids we got (not the absolute lowest, but definitely competitive). Combine that with the rock solid commitment to their work product, and you've got one of the best operations around. If you care about finding someone that stands behind getting the job done right, call these guys.

Tom was excellent at helping with us envision the final product. His designs on the computer and detailed estimates of the costs for each room, really helped us understand the project, very little was a surprise. They had a full crew working throughout the home 6 days a week, for 7 weeks, with the last week for some minor finishing touches. They did what they said they would do, and did it on time, with excellent workmanship.

    Fireplace Freddie
If you love getting the run around, if you want your job to be drawn out for almost three months, if you love waiting at home for workmen to arrive late and if you love being told one thing and having another thing occur . . . than Fireplace Freddie's is for you! Got permission from my HOA the week of October 6th for work to begin. Fireplace Freddie's came and dismantled my fireplace on October 13th. I had to keep calling to see if the elbow had come in yet. I told Devon (who is now no longer with the company) that I had a house warming party on November 7th. He promised that my fireplace would be done by November 7th . . . well, guess what . . . the part didn't come in. The part didn't come in until November 24th. Devon wanted to "finish" the job on Wednesday, November 26th (the day before Thanksgiving) . . . he told me that everything could be done in one day. I had a feeling that it couldn't be done in a day since I was told it would probably take six days from start to finish to complete the job. So instead work began on December 2nd. Guess what? They worked on December 2nd and 3rd and still had more work to do! They had to get another part . . . they finally came back on December 17th to install the part and hook up my fire logs. By the way . . . the same workers rarely return. One person tells you one thing, another tells you something else and a supervisor never stops by to check on the work. I was told by one worker that the inside of the firebox still needed some work, when the next crew came out to finish the job . . . they knew nothing about it. On December 18th, a final inspection was scheduled for December 30th between 9:00-9:30 a.m. Received several calls last week from Aaron trying to schedule a final inspection. After I returned to town from the holidays, I called and told him that an appointment had already been scheduled. He said he had no such appointment on the schedule and that someone could be there between 10:00-10:30 . . . but probably closer to 11:00. I told him that I had a lunch to attend at 11:30 a.m. and he promised that it would be plenty of time for the inspection to take place. Just received a call at 11:00 a.m. from the inspector, Joe. Joe was "held up" and didn't have reception on his phone to call me . . . now Joe couldn't be there until 12:00 p.m. At the same time Joe said that the inspection would take one hour to complete . . . so much for 30 mins according to Aaron. Just called and left a message for Freddie . . . no one was in the office to take the call. Now Joe says he will be there between 2-3. I left a message saying I am not going to wait around! I have complained several times . . . most of the time the supervisors put the blame entirely on the workers. It is all unprofessional. I would NEVER recommend Fireplace Freddie's to anyone. They are a bunch of liars who don't know a thing about customer service.

We have become rather jaded regarding contractors as we remodel our house. Mitch was a welcome exception to this. He gave us a very reasonable quote He did exactly what he described within the quoted time frame. No excuses. He was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommended him.
