Handyman reviews in Harbor City

We contacted several contractors in our area, but only Tal made a really good impression on us - He was so professional and nice, and we knew we going to go with him. And we are happy we did! The work he and his workers did was great, always on time, never left trash behind , and made us feel as comfortable as can during the process . The Bathrooms looks amazing (even better than anticipated!) .

Mr. Handyman serving West Los Angeles
Mr Handyman for South Bay (phone 310-935-0722) sent a guy to my home to estimate cost of installing railings, paving yard and removing garbage disposal. They charged me $80 for the estimate but I did not hear from them for 3 weeks. After several telephone calls over a period of 2 additional months, they only provided an estimate for one out of three items I requested. Horrible service. I strongly advise to avoid them.

Big E Decks and other odd jobs
This was two individual jobs done by two different men.  One guy does only plumbing and couldn't remove the furnace.the furnace had to be taken out by another person because it was a gas furnace and required a person that worked with the gas line

    Alan McKinney Construction
The new material was dropped off and placed in the patio entrance without any protective covering.
Light rain fell during the weekend, so I covered with tarps to prevent water damage to the cabinet.
During the three week ordeal, work began later in the morning and extended into the evening. The exception being the last day (3/13/14) to collect the balance of payment. The finished results of this one man construction company reveals a bathroom wall tile that is not smooth, grout that is inconsistent (air bubbles caused spaces), floor tiles uneven, (no spacers used), and caulking that is deteriorating. The bathroom fan rattles, and the wall is not smooth where he attempted to cover his vanity mirror cuts.
Spray paint peeled off where tape was removed from molding. Paint and material was spilled on the patio brick causing visible stains. The building inspector required a plumbing "redo" of the double sink installation (which he did).
Clean up was similar to performance. The three weeks of noise, dust & inconvenience was difficult enough, but when you factor in 32 years of construction expertise, coupled with a $12,000 price tag for this work, I'm dissapointed.

The company's owner, Tony arrived on time to assess the work to be done. He was very professional and very nice to deal with.  His crew arrived on time and worked very hard all day long.  They cleaned up everything before they left each day.  The work that we thought was going to take a week was completed in three days.  The crew was professional and very hard working.  They did a great job.

My wife and I wanted to remodel our outdated kitchen but were initially scared away by several bids we received from 3 different  contractors. We decided instead to concentrate on one part of the kitchen at a time and contacted Don only to ask for a bid for building drawers in our pantry.Don answered the phone the first time I called. I had to wait a few days for the initial visit because Don was currently working on several other jobs. He arrived on our agreed meeting date on time.I showed Don where we wanted the pantry drawers installed but also explained our master plan for the kitchen. I was pleasantly  surprized when Don told me that he could do everything that was on that master plan. He didn't try and sell himself, just took a few measurements and pictures and told me he would email me the bid.The next day I recieved the bid and immediatly called Don to accept and schedule the first day to begin. Unfortunately I had to wait over a week for his schedule to clear because he was very busy (which I took as a good sign).Once work began it went smoothly from start to finish. This was a large job, basically a complete kitchen remodel. It took about 3 weeks and during this time, Don did not work on other jobs. He began and ended his work days at my condo (frequently working on the weekend). Both my wife and I work, and after the 3rd day I gave Don keys to our condo so he could continue working while we left for the day. Both Don and his assistant Dustin were professional and well-spoken. They cleaned up at the end of the day and made sure our pets (3 indoor cats) did not get out of the condo.Several days after the job was completed there was a sticky drawer that was difficult to open. I called Don and he came out the following day and fixed the problem. Don's bid was well below any of the other bids we recieved. He gets significant discounts for much of the material which he passed on directly to me. I actually went with Don to pick out the granite and lumber supplies. Our kitchen looks incredible. Don is a real craftsman that takes pride in his work, enjoys what he does and likes to stay busy. Because he is in high demand, you may initially need a bit of patience. His work however, is well worth the wait.

They showed up on time and discussed the work needing to be done, at that point discussed the options of how to approach the job. I will predicate my statement by stating in a prior career i worked in our family business as a contractor doing many painting jobs, I still have several contacts whom are painters and have a good measure as what a job of this size and nature should cost reasonably.  In summary a quote of 6600.00 or so for the exterior freshening, trim repair and touch up painting, interior painting of a single color, normal touch up and patching usual to any occupied dwelling. For this price is way out of line for the square footage of 2200 sq ft. For all the unaware, painting in an industrial/commercial setting when doing blanket painting is almost always bid by sq ft. in this case we are talking 1.50 per sq ft for both interior and exterior. To put this in perspective most exterior painting is usually bid up to 1.10 per sq ft, but keep in mind that they are ONLY TOUCHING UP and some patching. The more alarming point if my memory serves me, they quoted 4400. for the interior painting which is 2.00 per sqt ft for a single color and not all the rooms need to be painted. So they arent painting the entire 2200 sq ft. I know these guys will pick thru this and will try and derail/debunked this position, so be it! I have requested they requote the job more accordingly, its been going on a week with no response. At the end of the day a bid for this job at 6600.00 is not only way out of line, it boarders on unethical. They may do great work, that ill never know because of the bad taste left in my mouth with my experience, but I will say this for CERTAIN, BEWARE and get multiple quotes prior to agreeing to any work they are bidding on.

Hector did not show up or call to cancel. I called him the following week and he indicated out of town but would call in a few days upon his return. We never heard from him again. He no showed twice. If you really need a job done do not call Hector!

    Eric Yingling
Eric was hired to manage my property in Toledo in Mid february. Soon after he falsely reported to me that property had an inspection and lots of work were needed to secure its structure. Over $1,000 were spent on materials I purchased over the phone with my credit card that he picked up. In addition he asked for another $1,000 for labor he never performed. It was simply a scam to take advantage of the fact that I live out of town. In addition to this close to $2,000 fraud, he asked for help to save the life of his sick wife. A total of $984 were loaned to him for that purpose. No money has been returned to me so far

    Actron Heating & Cooling
Very happy. He was completely available over the phone, adjusted to my needs and budget and gave priority to my project so it could be completed on time. He even advanced moneys to do work and took care of details that went beyond the scope of his work without asking extra payment.
