    We checked in at 1:30 this afternoon for a cleaning and check up and just left at 4:30 PM this afternoon with only one cleaning done and about two hours of upselling. Who knew there was this much drama with a simple 30 minute cleaning. Much like a used car lot they tag team you leaving you cooling your heels in the exam chair for 30 minutes between "consultations" and estimates for additional services. Just 5 months ago went to the dentist for my twice a year exam at a large metro's top rated practice and received excellent dental health reports -- no cavities for 25 years, great gum health. Suddenly Smiles recommending several thousand dollars of special cleanings?! Don't think so. I'm switching my dental HMO provider this afternoon. They're definitely not interested in providing basic routine dental health care -- be sure to get a second opinion when they walk in with service contracts during your cleaning. I filed a complaint with Delta Care, my HMO dental provider, this afternoon, and will follow with a complaint with the dental board.

    He is wonderful. He worked me into his scheduling without an appointment when I had an emergency and was going out of town. He is very accommodating. The staff is very helpful. Sometimes they don't answer the phone, but they are good about calling back. Sometimes not immediate, but they do call you back. I will continue coming here.

    It was amazing, I have been going here for 10 years and the entire family goes here. Very thorough, kind and on time. He never tries to sell you something that you don't need, and he listens to you. If you have a problem you can always get in to see him.

    His care is great. He is a wonderful dentist. We have had bad luck with dentists in the past. We have paid for products that we did not need and our insurance did not pay for. However, Dr. Bowen does not sell us anything that our insurance does not cover. I think they all walk on water there. The staff is great! The dental hygienists are kind and not in a hurry. They will block out plenty of time for your appointment so you don't feel rushed. They take care of everything. I don't have to pay the bill after the appointment. They will send me a bill for what is not covered which is not very much. They also remind us of our six month appointments.

    Dr. C. Brian Hooper is reasonable. He doesn't try to sell you things you don't need. If you come in with a cavity, he will fix the cavity. If you don't have a cavity he isn't going to tell you you do! You do get people who will do that. I had a Dentist who told me I needed a root canal, and a second opinion told me I didn't. I don't like the front desk girl, I think she is rude.

    Don't Recommend AT ALL!!!
     Even with an appointment, kept me in waiting room for over 1 hour.
     Dr. Jafar tried to pull one teeth which had root canal and post built already and 2 tooth next to it to make a 3 tooth bridge that I don't have any problems with. 
     Accounting staff has very rude attitude and can't explain properly to my questions.
     I'm glad that I only had a consultation and some x-ray taken.  After that visit, I joined Angies'List and saw the review.  I was horrified.  They were trying to do the same thing to me.  Thank you very much for the reviewer's comment on Angies' List !!!

    I did not make a good showing of myself arriving at the wrong location. Dr. Huffaker's office is more of what is stereotypically a country doctor's setting, and I had gone across the street to the medical plaza thinking his office would be located there. The staff had to call me and let me know they were across the street, as I was still searching the lobby guide for the office. 
     As mentioned, I came in late, and I thought I would get some kind of reprimand, as I know some doctors make a very big issue about being late and about courtesy to other patients. The staff let me know I was ok, and that the doctor would see me soon, after I had completed my paperwork.
     Dr. Huffaker greeted me in his meeting area, and we talked for a while about my condition and what I was looking for. I mentioned what my own family dentist had told me that I needed done, and we discussed at length just how serious my mouth had deteriorated. I really did appreciate Dr. Huffaker's willingness to talk through my rational as to how I got this bad, and what I need to do to improve my health. Not just the physical damage to my mouth, but also in addressing my fears and frustration with previous dental experiences. More importantly, the doctor helped adjust my mindset about my oral care. It's not like letting the car go on a bad tire for a few more miles, my decay was genuinely affecting my health, and not just in terms of pain. The oral exam that followed was pretty thorough, and we set up a return appointment to go over my case. 
     After an X-ray exam and probing of my gum I was On my return visit the seriousness of my condition really hit home, as we talked about all of the options available to me. Let me remind you readers, BRUSH YOUR TEETH and take care of them, or you will end up like me. Extractions, bone work, implants... this was far and above mere tooth ache of broken teeth. I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by addressing my tooth decay MUCH earlier. But there I was, the past is set and I had to look forward to my health and my future.  
     Dr. Huffaker was patient enough to let me ask questions, discuss options and offer recommendations for my health... and try to work with my budget while still . What I did not get was a dog-and-pony show like the previous prosthodontist I was recommended to... the one with the style of a used car salesman, wheeling and dealing.
    A thorough cleaning with his hygienist was also required, as my gums were in pretty bad shape. I came back in a week later for my hygiene appointment, and spent some time in THE CHAIR.

     My hygiene treatment was very necessary, as my gums needed to be in good shape for the implants to take hold without complications.  And Dr. Huffaker's hygienist did a thorough and faster job than other hygienist I have seen (but that is for another review).
     The overall dental experience was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, even though the first time I heard what was required for my treatment plan drew mental horror pictures in my mind. Dr. Huffaker calmed me done and made me feel comfortable and assured that procedure would go well. And these past months of preparing for my treatment have gone well (as well as addressing other minor issues within my mouth).
    Mild discomfort at best, during the most  I also took the opportunity with Dr. Huffaker to discuss what I would need done by the surgeon he had recommended.  We set up a consultation with the dental surgeon that Dr. Huffaker coordinates with. Dr. Huffaker had sent over my case notes, and the surgeon reviewed it to confirm what Dr. Huffaker and I had agreed that I needed.
     The real scary parts of the treatment going through the implant surgery in January.  But as usual, I had built it up in my mind more than I should have, The operation went smoothly. I checked in the mid-morning at the surgeons practice, went through the pre-operation run-through to make sure I would be fine during the procedure. The aneasthesiologist put me under, and just over two hourz I woke up again, with new additions to my mouth. A little recovery time in the office,  then I was taken home by my wife to recover. The swelling was not bad, and pain was manageble with medication, and Dr. Huffaker's staff called me at home my to make sure I was alright.
    One month later and after a  few follow up visits to make sure I am healing well, I am proud to say I have my full smile back, The time I had spent talking with Dr. Huffaker about the implant procedure and what I should expect before, during and after the implant procedure. I did not feel like a cow from the herd being led through the slaughter house like I have with so many other doctor and dentist appointments. I felt like I had someone who actually cared about my mouth and my health, and that Dr. Huffaker made sure that I was well informed with the CORRECT information and tht I was not overwhelmed. I am smiling now because of the care that was provided, nd because I felt like I had positive influence over the  course of my care.
