Mr. Handyman serving Beverly Hills & Hollywood
I purchased a deal from Angie's List for 4 hours of work, not knowing how much time the particular job would take.  When I arranged the job with the Mr. Handyman representative, she quoted a standard rate that was actually better than the deal.  That was strange, but just means that the company and Angie's List need to coordinate a bit better.

Scheduling the job was easy.  The Handyman showed up on the job day on time and ready to go.  He talked me through the job and told me how many hours it would take, including running out to buy materials (which I could have done to save billable time).  We discussed that he should paint the wood with primer but that he probably couldn't put the color coat on, especially since I didn't have any leftover house paint.

He got the job done on time and within the estimate (8 hours plus materials).  On top of that, he was able to match the paint of the rest of the house and put on the final coat.  He wasn't totally sure that the match was good (I think it's fine), and since we hadn't discussed it ahead of time, he provided that paint and labor at not cost.

Needless to say, I'm happy that the job is totally done, and looks like it was done with high quality and workmanship.  As others note, their rate is not cheap, but I do think you get what you pay for.

    GM Pacific Pro Construction
GM Construction failed to replace and repair the wood siding on my house and the paint job which they did to one side of my house has failed in less than 18 months. I have paid GM Construction $5600 to make repairs to the wood siding and to paint only one side of my home. I have discovered that they failed to replace any wood and have used window caulking materials instead of the proper repair materials and as a result the insulation underneath has been damaged.

    Unique Rooter & Plumbing
All seemed reasonable.||The unfortunate price was for installing the new faucet, a job which took less than 45 minutes total.  I had already purchased the faucet, and they charged $320 to install it.  Don't know whether this was an error on their part.  Maybe they mistakenly gave a price that included a company provided faucet.  I had it done, because the old faucet was unusable. The work was performed professionally, and I would use them in the future, but I would definitely challenge pricing if I felt it out of line.

    Bellotti Painting
We'd recently bought a mixed materials house (half stained wood and half stucco.)  The wood and the stucco were in bad shape.  I called for an estimate, Mike came out the next day (in the rain!), asked me a bunch of questions, and then emailed me an estimate a day or two later.  He was able to start working right away.  His crew (two men, who were fantastic -- very friendly, courteous, professional, etc.) showed up every morning around 8 and told us what they would be doing that day.  Each day they cleaned up all of their stuff and said goodbye when they were leaving for the day. Mike stopped by each day to check on everything.  They washed the house, sanded the wood, patched the wood, patched the stucco, and painted everything.  It was a very easy and painless procedure.  I would highly recommend Mike and his crew and plan to use them the next time I need painting.

William Fernandez Construction DBA Handy William
He was prompt. Told us what he would do and how long it would take.  He left the area clean and neat.  I threw an extra bit of work into the job which he did at the same time. (He did charge us but of course...it was extra work)
Pleasant and professional.  Would use him again in a second.

    Marco Montes
Marco is much better than most licensed general contractors.  He really cares about doing the job right.  He provided a flat rate for labor and provided materials at cost.  His estimates as to both time and money were accurate.  He arrived on time each and every day and the work progressed without dealy or interruption.  He discussed the pros and cons of various materials and construction techniques.  Marco is both clever and resourceful - he was able to pull the listing structure into position with little problem.  He built temporary walls to hold the structure in place while he worked and reinforced the structurewith better Sampson strong ties and bigger posts and beams.  Clean up and haul away of debris was thorough.  All and all a good experience working on a steep hillside in Mt. Washington.

    E B Specialist Handyman Service
I called Wilfredo for a quote for work on a door and stucco repair.  He scheduled an appointment for that evening at 5:30, and I left work early to make it home.  At 6:00, I called him and he told me there had been an emergency at the job he was at, and he didn't have my phone number to call me back.  We rescheduled for two days later at the same time.  Again, I left work early, and again he didn't show.  This time when I called about 30 minutes after the scheduled time, it kicked to voice mail that was full, so I couldn't even leave a message.  He didn't answer multiple attempts to call him.

    Alberto Hernandez
I have a pretty big piece of property. I have steps going down to the bottom which was not unusual as the ones coming up from the top. He supervised the project. He did wooden steps for me. The steps coming down from the top are the ones which are unique and I lost touch with the guy who did that job for me. They are unique because they come down a couple of hundred feet. They are five levels before they get down to my deck and they are incredible steps. When new people visit me and walk down the steps they talk about the steps. The ones that go down to the street are not as usual as the ones from the top. There are about 40 steep steps that go down into the street. I don't consider them as unusual as the ones coming down. Alberto does landscaping and I guess he started to get involved with bigger construction projects and I was one of his first clients. I know the guy and he is an artist and so am I. I asked him to make the steps, he worked on it for a couple of weeks and he did a really good job. I was very happy with what they did. They were four people who came to do the work at the same time. Each of them were doing a different job and Alberto was supervising the job. I used them again as landscapers as well. That's what he does originally and when I went to visit him he was starting to do construction kind of business and I picked up on that. That's why I got him to do the steps. When the fire season came a month ago I asked him to do the landscaping as well. He was great.

    Pristine Construction Inc
Nathan did what he said he was going to do. He assisted us in an expeditious manner during an emergency and showed concern for our situation. He made several good suggestions, one being not to start the new work during a predicted rain time so there would be no chance for the new work to get wet. However, he ordered the special beam and other materials so there was no wait time once the work started. He used treated lumber when necessary and discussed all materials with us before using. His crew finished the work ahead of time so that the area would be protected during the next storm. The work crew was professional and clean. Arnold, the job foreman, double checked everything and made sure it was free of all the rotted wood before starting with the new materials. It was a pleasure to do business with Pristine Construction Company. In fact, we are currently working with Nathan and his architect for remodeling plans for our house.

    CMRS Construction
Daryl came out promptly to look at the job; we received an estimate the next day, liked it, and scheduled the work. The roof joist repair was finished on the appointed day, but it was raining, so the concrete work needed to wall out the skunks couldn't be done until the following Monday -- which it was. All the work seemed very competent, and we're especially pleased with the patching of the foundation: they dug a trench alongside the foundation wall, placed wire screen in it, and filled it with concrete to deter burrowing, and it looks great. Our interactions with the CMRS business office people were likewise unfailingly professional and pleasant. Everything was done on time and within the estimate, and our expectations were exceeded. We've got an old house that often needs a little work, and we will surely be calling CMRS again.
