    BRILLIANT CONSTRUCTION
We have been collaborating with Graeme Chapman for 15 years as we upgrade our 1970s tract home and yard. We were the first clients of Brilliant Construction and have never regretted it. I admire Graemes craftsmanship, his honesty, his good taste, and creativity. He has put in skylights, new windows and doors, a new heater, custom closets, new bathrooms and kitchens, moved walls, and floors. He has built from scratch a fountain, an outdoor table, and garden walls that can only be described as brilliant. Graeme knows where to spend money and has not shied away from telling us when our ideas were too expensive or too weird. Together we have transformed a dumpy 1960s tract house into bright, comfortable and eye-catching home. One of the things I particularly like about Graemes work is the quality and integrity of his sub-contractors. They are prompt, good-natured, hard-working, and very capable. Graeme treats them and his craftsmen with respect and demands their best work. Work that does not meet his standards gets redone at his cost, but that was a rare occurrence. Naturally, when remodeling an older residence, surprises crop up. Graeme analyzes the problem and suggests the best way forward. We never felt like he used these issues to gouge us for more money and the problems addressed have stayed fixed. Brilliant Construction lives up to its name!

    Horizon Construction & Remodeling Inc
My wife and I made the decision to completely remodel our 55 year old kitchen which included removing a couple of walls to open it up to the dining room and living room. After deeply vetting numerous contractors and securing proposals, we selected Horizon Construction in Fullerton, CA. Mark Besnos, company owner, was by far the most detail oriented and considerate home improvement contractor weve ever worked with. Throughout all phases of the project, Horizon provided extraordinary workmanship in a very timely manner. Of course with any major project there are a few challenges. Horizon Construction remedied every issue with effective contingency plans for any problem they encountered. Here is an excellent example of superior service: We selected and ordered quartz counter tops from MSI of Orange, CA. When the quartz counter tops arrived and were installed, they had a number of finishing defects which Horizon tried to repair. Unfortunately, the defects were irreparable and MSI would not stand behind their product and workmanship. Mark and Horizon Construction however alleviated our aggravation by selflessly offering us a partial financial reimbursement even though the counter top finishing was not Horizons responsibility. From beginning to completion, Horizon Construction exhibited professionalism, pride of workmanship and a commitment to excellence. If you are seeking the finest company to successfully bring your remodeling dreams to reality, Horizon Construction is unquestionably the one!

David was prompt, courteous and very professional.  He was very careful about ensuring that our fish pond was protected. He left the work site very clean - was careful to remove the concrete spray from the fences, walls and patio doors.  He stamped and stained a new patio and it is just beautiful. It looks just like I hoped it would.  He sealed it with a non-slip surface and we can walk on it even when wet.  We love it and would not hesitate to recommend or use again!  Thanks, David

    Odell Complete Concrete
I found their company highly rated and they did not disappoint.  Their pricing was very fair and they did great work.  They came out and demoed a large driveway and approach.  After doing the proper re-bar, they had the concrete poured and finished perfectly. They completed the project early and for the price quoted.  They were very efficient and cleaned up everything.  The work came out great.
I would highly recommend them and use them again.

    SOD Builders
Oren, the general contractor, gave us a bid that was reasonable and when he came to our house he brought his designer Michelle, who showed us pictures and gave us ideas about what could be done to our house.  Michelle was with us to help pick out tile, granite slabs, paint colors, and cabinet styles.  The job itself had one hic-up but was remedied by Oren.  The foreman/woman that was assigned to our job told us that if we had any questions we could call her day or night and she would be available.  This turned out not to be the case and Oren eventually let her go and we were given a new foreman, Robert, who was available whenever we needed help.
Overall everything went well.  Oren had workers at our house just about every day and the workers were very professional in doing their jobs.  They even swept up at the end of the day so we wouldn't track dust into the rest of the house.  Our remodel started on January 6th and was completely finished by March 14th.  I have waited until now (6 months after completion) to see if anything went wrong before giving my review and I can honestly say that everything has held up well.  No cracks in the drywall, and no leaks anywhere.  Given all that was accomplished in just over 2 months I would say that Oren and his crew did a wonderful job.

    Beachciti Construction Inc
We have used this contractor since 1999.  Previously he added about 1200 sf new space.  Later he remodeled the guest house.  At a commercial property he did a large concrete and asphalt job and created pits for machinery installation, etc. We always found him trustworthy.  He showed up to the Job site on time everyday.  He cleaned up the job site and kept it organized.  Never feared that he will run away in the middle of the job.  Like any customer, we were picky and pointed things to him.  He was reasonable in accommodating us as we were reasonable in realizing if something we wanted was outside the scope or original understanding.

Bottom line we deal with him simply because we trust him.  He has a professional engineering degree and contractors license.  He understands the building code and structural integrity of the building.  We live in earthquake area, and need to be assured that the work is done by a professional with structural engineering knowledge and experience no matter how small a job it may be..

overall, we are very happy with the results.
after the initial installation, there was a heavy rain.  We found leaks at the joints between the house and patio. They came over the next week and fix the issue.

I appreciated greatly the professionalism with which David completed the work on my backyard; I'm very pleased with the results.  Perhaps even more important, I appreciate his honesty, which saved me $$$$ more. My original intention was to have him also tear out my front sidewalk and replace it because of several large, ugly, dark stains which developed in the concrete over a period of years.  He had a simple, inexpensive solution:  vinegar applications to the area. It worked!

I am very pleased with the results. I worked with the salesman Dillon. The way they bid you have to make quick decisions. I would suggest to be very detailed in what you want for the color, the surface, and the product. I saw work they had  previously done and I was pleased with it. I would say the homeowner needs to be absolute and be tenacious. I told them upfront that if there is a problem or I was not satisfied, they would have to return to fix it. They had to return three times. The actual color of the cement was not uniform throughout the driveway. However, they put a seal or stain and I really like the way it looks. The end product is worth it and I would use their service again for outside work. They were sensitive to my requests and really went above and beyond to meet my requirements.  I thought the work was well worth the cost.

    Gerber Concrete Services Inc
The job was started on Thursday, July 11th, and the cement was finished on Monday, July 15th.  Two of the crew (the supervisor and 1 man) even came on Saturday to make sure everything was ready for the cement truck on Monday morning. I had made a mistake in one area and was going to put plants at the end of the new sidewalk from the back yard to the street and forgot that I needed to take my trash cans out every week so I would need cement all the way to the city sidewalk on the street so I called Dan on Sunday and he said it was no problem and his men changed the forms on Monday morning in time for the cement to be poured.  After the initial estimate, I changed the plans several times and each time, Dan Gerber, the president of Gerber Construction, called me back and worked with me as I added or subtracted from the original plans.  I had originally planned to keep the old patio and make a separate new patio in the back yard (8'x26'), but Dan and his wonderful supervisor, Miguel, worked out the drainage projections with a tripod like tool and said my 2nd patio would be higher than the original and the water would all drain toward the house.  The original price had been about $5000, but I agreed to make it all one patio so it could have proper drainage and he only charged me $2500 for removing the old patio (about 10'x31').  I have 2 sliding doors (living room and dining room) going out to the patio and one of the slabs by the living room door would interfere with the drainage, so that had to come out and be replaced, also.  He only added $100 for that change.  The finished product looks incredible with a beautiful broom finish instead of the piecemeal concrete I had planned with the 2 separate patios with a 9" border around the new one to catch the rain water.  This company really knows what they are doing and the have enough crew (5 to 6 guys every day) to get the job done in a timely manner.  They have all the equipment (every type of shovel, saw, hoses to pump the concrete, etc., and they took special care to protect my property--even the old carpet I had in the garage was covered with plastic so they could wheel hundreds of loads of sod, dirt, and old concrete through my pass through garage door to the back yard since they could not use the gate since a new cement sidewalk (30'x3') was being formed there to have new concrete to the street.
The best part was how promptly Dan responded to phone calls and returned them--as a woman, I did not know exactly what was going to work (drainage, etc.) and I had to add on several things--he had an estimate to me within 1 day while the other 2 companies had still not given me an estimate 5 to 7 days after they saw the job.  I wanted to at least hear what their estimate was since they went to the trouble to measure, but I finally had to give them a 6:00 pm deadline a week after Bates Construction had been out and 3 days after M.E. MCLOUGHLIN Concrete Construction had come out to measure the job.  Only one of the other contractors gave me a tentative price of $5300, and that did not include the new section of 31'x3' that was included in Gerber Construction's price.  If I ever need concrete, I would only use Gerber Construction Company--in fact, my neighbor across the street and I have asked for an estimate to replace our cracked driveways for our 3-car garages to be done in September.  I trust Dan Gerber to be fair in the pricing that I will not even waste my time getting other estimates--I do not think any company could do better work and his pricing of about $9 per square foot is very fair.  If I had a good camera, I would take pictures, but if anyone would like to see the work, call me (714-698-8374) and I would love to show off the great work Dan Gerber's Construction Company does.   I would only recommend this company for any cement work and I am so grateful to the agent at Angie's List who sent me his name in the list of contractors for me to contact.  Gerber Construction should be on every list of submissions to clients who are having cement work and Angie's List would have a lot of happy members.
