  • Mercy Folsom was unable to diagnose the cause of his sepsis but doctor's there believed he had lymphoma.  They transferred him to Mercy San Juan for the biopsy.  The Folsom ICU doc had already spoken with the oncologist at San Juan and they were waiting for him.  However, the surgeon, Joelle Jakobsen,  twice refused to do the biopsy because the lymph nodes "were not large enough to warrant  a biopsy."  She refused to take into account the request of several doctors who believed it was lymphoma or to look at his records long enough to see that he had been on prednisone for several days which would have reduced the size of lymph nodes.  My husband was released without a diagnosis after 18 total days in Mercy's care. One month later he was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma and began treatment at UC Davis.
In addition to the unbelievable arrogance of Dr. Jakobsen, the infectious disease specialist whose name I unfortunately cannot recall was equally arrogant, telling me every time he entered the room that HE was the ID specialist for the hospital and I really didn't need to hear a second opinion.   He was quite young, newly hired, and would not ask one of the other ID doctors to look at my husband's chart.  He kept trying to diagnose him with :San Joaquin Valley Fever" even though repeated tests showed that was not what he had.
i think I'd rather go to a veterinary clinic for care than to Mercy San Juan!

  • It took our family a while to find the best doctors for our particular needs and we had to move different family members to different medical groups to make it work but now we feel good about our medical providers and the availability of specialists. I really like that I can get advice 24 hours a day by calling their NurseHelp 24/7 number at no cost. I was disappointed that I was denied coverage for a $200.00 shingles vaccination that my doctor recommended because it's not covered for people under age 60 and I'm only 50. My doctor recommended it because I had shingles last year and that means I can get it again. It seems they should make an exception for people like me who have already had shingles. On the other hand, I feel good about the cost of our prescriptions, lab tests and doctor visits so overall I'm pleased and feel good about Blue Shield.

  • They immediately took an x-ray and it was determined that my fibular near the ankle was broken.  They gave me a temporary cast and made  an appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon on Monday. The Orthopedic that was recommended  is very thorough.
If ever I need urgent care I know that I will return to Med 7.  I didn't wait long and was very happy with their professionalism.

  • I took my daughter there 6 months ago for weakness, and their diagnosis and recommendation for immediate admittance to Mercy Hospital, saved my daughters life (she appeared to be fine, but her electrolytes were severely out of balance). Danielle Delvo PA-C, MPA, is a great women's care specialist, a nurse practitioner that has a wide range of knowledge. She gave me the mediation that halted the effects of the food poisoning. This is good place to visit if you are not certain an emergency room visit is required, or if you don't have access to a family practitioner.

  • I arrived at the hospital and was dilated to a 6. The nurse insisted that I was dehydrated (even though I told her that I had drank at least 250 ounces of water throughout the day - she said that was much less than the recommended amount!). So, I was hooked up to an I.V. despite my requests to have a hep lock only. The process completely stopped my contractions. Nine hours later I finally started progressing again. Once I finally got to the point of pushing, I told the nurse that I really needed to go to the bathroom but was not able to urinate. She said that I probably didn't need to and that I should just start pushing. She refused to help me unless I pushed while lying on my back (I wanted to use a squat bar or at least push from an upright sitting position). Three hours later I was completely exhausted and told her to call the doctor. When the doctor arrived, the first thing he said was that my bladder was very distended. He catheterized me and drained almost a gallon of fluid. Fifteen minutes later my son was born! I wish the nurse would have listened when I told her that I needed help!

  • Overall we had a positive experience. I am no longer with them, due to divorce, but my husband (now ex) continues with them (rate for single HMO is $34.23 per pay period paid by employee, total cost $220.14). We did have occasional problems with claims being denied initially, but it was rare. However, I do think we were saved much of the hassle by having an excellent (and large) HMO group as our care providers. They absorbed much of the hassle.

  • Overall, I think Kaiser is fine. They have a lot of specialists.

  • The agent was very responsive; however, since budget was an issue, I applied directly to a health care provider in Northern California.
