  • Luxcess Home by SOD Builders was many levels above all the other contractors we have dealt or worked with. They are truthful, qualified, responsive and able to do many meticulous and beautiful work. At our house, they designed, managed and remodeled our room addition very professionally that we were able to live at the house during the entire work. The addition that we did was behind the house and part of the back yard. We wanted to extend the living room space and to add a formal dining room area. The addition style fit to our existing style which is a modern style and we are very pleased.

  • My air conditioner  went out, on the count it was really hot here in California. They said they would respond in 48 hours, I didn't see them for 3 1/2 days. It happened on a Friday, they didn't come till that Monday  but we were without air conditioner for those 2 1/2  or 3 days if you want to add that up. From Friday evening around 7 at night till around Monday evening around 4 Monday, they came by and fixed it. We had to go out and buy a portable air conditioner. I would only use them if I have too, once the contract is up I won't use them. 
    In the five years they've been coming out every time they come out, just to service it,once every six month,they always find something wrong. They always find something that's not covered and you always end up paying money out of your pocket.

  • Jerry showed up on time. He asked what the problem was and what I would like done. He advised on the high cost of freon gas, and the capacities of both units before he started. I asked to watch, which he said was no problem. He hooked up his equipment and after a time explained what the gauges meant and then he added a device to measure the return copper temperature and what he was attempting to accomplish. I've have this done every 2-4 years, and this is the 4th time. Jerry with A-1 is the first one that ever put a temperature device on the return, and the first one that could actually explain what the science was for what he was doing. With all of the previous AC companies, it seemed like more of a guessing game as to how much freon should be added into the system. And even when they were done, yes, it was cooler, but.... After Jerry from A1 asked me to check inside, the difference was AMAZING. It had NOT worked that well in years. It was like adding a new AC unit. I finally now understood why the upstairs always felt muggy and never seemed to quite get cooled off. FINALLY SOMEONE WHO KNEW WHAT TO DO.

  • The job bidding process was conducted by Kevin - he was very knowledgeable and patient with us as he identified our needs and the best solutions for our home and high energy bills. He even made a return trip back to our house when I had additional questions and concerns and we ended up renegotiating a new deal as we added more work scope. The work was set to happen within the week and they finished the entire installation within 2 days. The workers were very conscientious of their surrounding's and the fact they were working within peoples homes - Great detail paid to making sure they did not leave a mess or damage any items including paint and carpets. Overall we're very pleased with the new system and have already seen a reduction in our energy consumption. Note: they are more expensive than other systems / companies out there - but I would recommend this company and their products to others. Aaron Barrett

  • The (cheerful) technician arrived about an hour into the 4 hour window I was given. Just after I showed him where my main (outdoor) A.C. unit was he asked for me to turn it on and lower the thermostat by 2 degrees, and get him my Angie's list coupon. Upon my return he told me that my main unit was trying to start but that it wasn't kicking the compressor on. He stated "I think I know why it won't start" and if he could get it to start, hopefully there wasn't something wrong with the compressor motor itself as that would be a major repair and it would be very expensive, and given the age of the unit it might be worth considering getting an entirely new unit instead. I told him I'd go inside to get the coupon let him get to work and if he needed anything I would be just inside the room by a nearby open window and to give me a shout. Approximately 10 minutes later I heard the main unit/compressor come on so I went back out. I was told by the tech that it did come on but that it wasn't producing very much cooling. He had some tools attached and showed me that the coolant that was circulating through the system there was only a 10 degree difference from what was coming in and what was leaving. He told me it was something to do with the bearings in the compressor unit and again mentioned the cost of repair and suggestion of replacing the entire unit. He then said he'd come ring the front door when he was done. Approximately 10 minutes later the bell rang and I went out to wrap things up. He then proceeded to show me on his ipad the part which he replaced to get the unit to start-up and then he showed me an invoice for $448!!! I was shocked, to say the least !  I had the distinct impression that this service was being performed as part of the tune-up. I had IN NO WAY agreed or was told that I would be charged extra. I must admit I do not like face to face confrontation and I went ahead and paid the invoice. After receiving an email copy of the invoice ( I looked it over to see what the details/price breakdowns were exactly and discovered that the $59 Angie's List item was ADDED to the total!!! Upon further review I realized that the "Tune-Up" was never actually performed! Just the replacement of a part I didn't know I would be charged for. I did a little research on the part that was replaced and it can easily be bought for between $20 and $30 retail. I have to say this is exactly why I became an Angie's List member....to avoid experiences/companies exactly like this! I have contacted Angie's List and this review is the first step to hopefully having this situation resolved.

  • The service tech showed up on time and was very nice guy. he showed me how my furnace works, also give me tips on how to keep my unit running. The best part was he cleaned every part of the furnace and made my furnace look new  again. I will use this (A-1 Comfort)  company again. thanks guys

  • A bit of background 1st, before I retired last year I was a project manager and frequently the team leader for complex remote communication site installations.  My standards are fairly high, and believe in quality workmanship and taking care of the customer.  Hind sight is 20 ? 20 and we are pleased we went with Greiner.  If you?re not interested in the details below, we will highly recommend Greiner to family and friends if they need similar work done.
    Greiner completed the Advanced Energy Audit Test Out of the new HVAC system with new ducting and installation in the attic they installed a couple of weeks ago.  A dramatic improvement over our 27 year old system that was fully functional, but getting tired.   Our home is a 27 year old two story ?tract home? and we have always had poor cooling and heating in the bedrooms on the 2nd floor along with fairly high energy bills.
    We had Greiner do an energy audit of our house ($195) before providing us recommendations and a quote.  Although we knew our HVAC system was performing poorly, we had no idea how bad it was until they performed the pressure test of our system.  They were unable to pressurize it which indicated a greater than 40% leakage in our ducting system.  During the inspection they said it was likely the original plenum below the furnace & exchange unit in the garage was our culprit.
    After Greiner provided us the results of the energy audit and their quote I did some research and obtained other quotes for comparisons.  The comparisons were not 100% perfect because of different brand names and such, but really ? really close.  The reason(s) we chose Greiner were; they participate in the Advance Energy Program which meant potentially higher rebates from PG&E over Standard Rebates, their price included the test out including the CAS ? CAZ test that others charge for, their additional year of no cost labor warranty, and they are a medium size company that has been around for awhile and is not too far away.  Their cost was a tad higher than other reputable firms for a ?turnkey? job, and higher than ?We?ll replace the units? quotes.
    The installation took three days to complete and I would have been proud to have their crew working for me when I was managing work crews.  Once the old units were removed it was clear that the plenum was poorly designed and not sealed when the house was built.  Their team also went further and found additional problems that to me were not clearly called for in the contract.  I was impressed that they looked for, found, and repaired difficult to find additional problems without ?checking? to see if they should take care of them.  Before contracting with Greiner I asked them ?What are potential or possible oops that may be discovered during installation work that is not covered in the contract??  Their response was ?Anything we touch is covered? and they sure followed thru.
    The test out today confirms that our leakage is now less than 6% and last Thursday when we 1st used the AC system it worked great and we may now have to actually reduce the air flow a bit for the upstairs bedrooms.  We also know what our rebate should be under the Advance Energy Upgrade.  It is quite a bit higher than the Standard Rebate which more than covers Greiner?s just a tad higher cost.
    Is Greiner perfect or walks on water?  Nope, but it has been a long time since I?ve seen folks try so hard to exceed what the customer needs and wants.

  • Ryan, the really fantastic service tech who came out (and who I am going to request come back on any further service trips) was on-time and very professional.  He put on protective liners on his shoes whenever he was inside the house (and he had to go back and forth several times).  He checked out our system and discovered our dual capacitor was not healthy and also that the hard start kit was not performing within manufacturer's specifications.  He also checked out the blower and the duct work in the attic to see how things looked.  I had him replace both parts and our air conditioning has been great since.  The same day he was out it got to 91 degrees outside but was nice and cool in the low 70s inside and my husband and I are very happy.

  • Very pleased with the entire team. Everyone was very courteous, professional, answered all questions patiently and clearly, and explained all options. Their initial assessment agreed with two other companies that we had in, plus they pointed out some enhancements that they could do. The work was completed faster than anticipated and they cleaned up everything nicely afterwards. Would definitely recommend.
