  • AHS as  a company is a joke.   We have used them for a year and they are yet to fix anything in the house.  The company operates as a monthly service.  We pay $110 a month and $75 for each visit.  Every time, they come in to look at anything, they find a reason not to do any repairs, or do the minimal repairs that would take care of the symptoms.  When we had a leaky faucet, they over tightened the valve to stop the drop temporarily.  It came back 2 months later and did more damage to the bathroom.  When we had electrical problem with an electrical outlet, they guy came in and said that for him to do the work, we have to higher a carpenter first, to remove the wall, exposing all the wiring.  We had to get another guy come back and he was able to diagnose the problem to tripped breaker.  When our pool pump broke down and started making noise, they came in and blamed the problem on the filter.  The filter was brand new so eventually they had to admit that the motor had to be replaced.   They tried to replace the motor as 3 separate jobs: one to replace the motor, two to replace the gasket on one side and then to replace the other leaking gaskets.   When we had another water faucet handle break down, because its thread to stripped off, they simply put it on tighter than before, without replacing a single part, then asked as to be very careful with it, so as not "to use excessive force".  The faucet is in my 12 year old daughter's bathroom and I very much doubt that she would use excessive force to begin with.  Inevitably, the handle broke again and they refused to fix it the second time, because they already made a note on the account that "the customer has been using excessive force and broke the handle on purpose".  The latest encounter with the company was surreal.  We had a leaking water heater.  The company came in and said that it had to be replaced.  We agreed to pay $625 in additional upgrades, on top of the work that had to be performed.  5 days later, they called us and said that they could not do the job,  because the tank was too heavy and we had to buy lifting equipment for them to complete the job.
Anyway, their business model seems to be very questionable and even though they ended up performing some work for us (e.g. replacing the pool pump), they did everything the cheapest way possible (e.g. they use refurbished pool pump) and made the process so painful with multiple visits and every attempt to get out of providing any service, that overall, we would have been much better off, not using their service.  In the end we have not saved any money, got very inferior maintenance of our house and wasted tons of our time and energy.

Here is an update on the water heater replacement.  After waiting for a week without hot water, the company told us that they would not be replacing the water heater and would issue us a payout instead.  I objected to that because it would not cover the full cost, but they made it clear to me that this was the best they could do.  So I went ahead and replaced the water heater using another company which, by the way, had no issues with the weight of the tank can didn't require any special equipment.   They simply stopped by and replaced the tank within a few hours I had hot water again.  Another week later, the AHS called me and told me that they could not approve the cash out payment until another contactor examines it and give us a second opinion.  When I told them that I had already had it replaced, they said, great so you do not need our help.  They said that they the reimbursement is now out of the question.   Not sure one can do, I guess, besides taking them to court.  In this case, I think they are a good target of a class action suit.  It is a big company whose business model is very questionable to me.

  • Called my home warranty to get my water heater fixedThey send out a plumber who said I needed a new water heater. After he hangs up with the warranty company he tells me I need a 220 valve which will cost $375 and is not paid by the warranty co.Checked out his reviews and find out he pulls this on other people too.
I sent him away immediately as no one should let this happen. The warranty company only pays the plumber $125 as this is what the girl at the warranty company told me.Then they tell me if the plumber says you need this you need to pay him.Basically they know but don't care as they do not want to pay out the proper amount which when I talked to two other highly regarded plumbers the usual charge for installation is around $500.So they see this as a way to keep there costs down and get away with this. Also when I had my regular plumber out who has many reviews and and A grade he said I did not need that valve.
This is why I thought I buy a warranty which when they sell it to you they tell you everything is covered.

  • My last two attempts to get service have not gone well. When I needed service on my treadmill, it took more than a month for them to get the parts and get a service person out to fix it. I had no use of the treadmill for over a month. When I needed service for the garage door opener, I had to wait about two weeks for an appointment. Then no one showed up. When I called, they rescheduled me for their next available opening - more than two weeks away. I am still waiting for this service.

  • They are our home warranty company. We have an ongoing monthly account with them. We continue to renew because their service works out so well.
