    Howes Finsh Carpentry
I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the service I received from Howes Finish Carpentry. He was able to help me out in an emergency and got the job done in under 48 hours from initial call to completion. He did perfect work and his prices are fair. I would definitely recommend!! Thank you!

This gentleman is not a handyman. He does not have experience in building homes nor the knowledge required to do so. He is not a person that can troubleshoot a problem because he doesn't know what to look for. I am not convinced he could repair a wooden fence. He is only a certified home inspector. That means he took a 30 hour course that focuses on building codes associated with viewable works of a residential building. Things you can readily see such as height of ceiling and exhaust fans, opening widths, plumbing water conservation code requirements (faucets, toilets, shower heads), alarm requirements for fire and carbon monoxide, and other exposed works. They do not cover a depth of plumbing, electrical or carpentry construction codes. A buyer is advised to not consider this person, get a licensed contractor to do the home inspection. We presented him with a broad range of work to be performed. He picked out simplest tasks only. We laughed as that would leave us with a small subset of work to be done making it harder to attract a qualified person who would bother. These home inspectors won't check the costly items to replace or repair such as your air conditioner, furnace, water heater, water conditioner, air flow balance, venting and exhaust of ambient air, nor anything to do with your roof nor foundation. In regards to windows, nothing except a broken seal or broken glass.

I know there are people out there that will recommend a particular contractor because he may have had the best price, or may always be on time/schedule, or was a good communicator, or did a quality job, or the subcontractors and workers were harding working. If you want all of that and more, Peverini Tile, Marble, and Construction Company is a must for your project. To say that we are ecstatic about the work Roger Peverini and Company completed for us is an understatement. His stellar service starts well before the signing of a contract. His professionalism was very apparent from the first time we met. He listened, asked questions, and had suggestions that made a lot of sense. He called 2 times after our initial discussion to clarify certain aspects of our vision for our kitchen remodel. His bid arrived in writing and on time as promised. I researched several contracting companies in the Sacramento area and based on my research, put our project out to bid to the best 3 companies that I thought would do a good job. Rogers bid was in the middle. After reviews of the bids and follow up discussions with the 3 companies, I decided to go with Roger Peverini. Mine and my wife's decision to go with Roger were based on his resume of experience, positive reviews on social media, and his professionalism dealing with our novice knowledge of construction. We found at the end of the project that we had made the right decision. He started our project on time, and finished ahead of schedule to our delight, since we were living in the house without a kitchen. He checked in with us everyday on multiple occasions to field any questions, to give us progress updates, and to explain what to expect in the way of construction the next day. Very customer focused. Roger has an excellent staff of workers and subcontractors; hard working, professional, on time, and doing quality work. Roger and staff did our tear out, cabinetry, granite installation, and appliance installation. He only subbed out about 25% of the work completed. But I can say that his subs were a strong reflection of his and his staffs strong work ethic. The finished product was beyond amazing, my wife was absolutely thrilled. The detailing at the end really gave us our perfect kitchen. If you are where we were in looking for a quality General Contractor, believe in my review and the social media reviews that are available; I did and was rewarded for my research with a kitchen remodel we are very proud to show to family, friends, and neighbors.

    Home Remodeler Inc.
We scheduled a date in the future for the repair as I wanted to make sure the rain was done. On the day in question he showed up and got to work with his crew. The job was completed to my satisfaction and I would recommend Shawn and his crew!

Mike is great! He's done quite a bit of work for me through the years and is very knowledgeable, thorough, friendly, reasonably priced and does great work so I set an appointment for him to complete the work for my mom as stated above. The stairs/ramp are custom and of solid wood and very sturdy and look awesome. The ramp is wide enough so when she needs her wheelchair it's very easy for her to get out of the house to the balcony and roll down the ramp. The security doors he installed are great too! I highly recommend him for any work! He's magic and can do pretty much anything! :)

    Spectrum One
It was terrible! They are full of promises and talk; but the action does not match; there is no follow through. Many of their guys are great; but there is minimal supervision. The "plumber" did not know anything and we had a water leak almost immediately.

Great, just great. Mike Phillips was very helpful and educated me quite a bit on what needed to be done and/or was required by local codes. His original price quote was right in line with others I received, but his final work was above and beyond what was quoted, at no addtl cost. Example: while fixing the dry rot around the chimney, Mike and his crew discovered that the chimney had never been wrapped by the builder 20 years earlier. He and his crew took down all the siding around the chimney, wrapped it, then replaced the siding and fixed the dry rot, and repainted it to match the house. He did not charge me extra for the wrap or the work. I will definitely hire Mike and Phillips Handyman again.

    Spectrum One

My experience with Spectrum One was horrible and disappointing.  I purchased their four hours of wood rot restoration/repair or exterior carpentry package on February 25, 2016 Olga from Spectrum one contacted me via Angie's list inbox shortly after to discuss the project and request photos.

I initially requested a weekend appointment but Olga informed me that they only work regular business hours M-F The first available appointment was scheduled almost a month later on  Monday 3/21/16 between 8-9 am. I requested the day off from work for the appointment on the morning of the scheduled appointment 1/2 hour before someone was scheduled to arrive I received a phone call from Olga stating that she was calling to confirm the appointment. I was taken aback when she said confirm...I said we already confirmed the appointment and scheduled it for today. Olga stated that she's trying to get a technician to do the job so he would be late. Approximately 2 hours later she called me back and stated that she couldn't get a technician to complete the job today but she offered me a Saturday appointment or an extra hour of labor for free. I opted for a Saturday appointment because I didn't want to take another day off from work.

The appointment was scheduled for 4/2/16 two days before the appointment I received an e-mail from Olga stating that they were unable to complete my job because the technician that was scheduled to work on Saturday quit and she didn't have anyone else available to work on Saturday therefore she was unable to provide me service at this time and would contact Angie's list to request a refund.

Needless to say I was very disappointed with my interaction with Spectrum One, they didn't offer to send another technician out to complete the job that I had purchased,  I took off from work and purchased the materials for a job that was never completed based on my experience with them I wouldn't recommend hiring them.

    J Ratch Construction Inc
Owner, Jeff Ratchford of J. Ratch Construction came and gave me a bid. He was one of three bids I received. While he went around the house and climbed up on the roof, he warned me that there is always the possibility of more dry rot being found as wood is removed. He gave me what I thought was a fair price. He told me how busy he was doing roofing--busier than he has ever been but he felt he could find an opening of 2-3 days to do the work. I contracted with him and his crew came and sure enough they found more rot--and continued to find rot as work was being carried out. This put great pressure on him to finish the work and get back to his other roofing contracts. He was hardpressed to complete the work. We had to suspend work until he had some break but he sent his crew to carry out the work. They worked tirelessly. Every day they cleaned up even repairing a leak in a water pipe caused by a cut on an exterior wall. New findings of rot caused more runs to buy materials. Since the house was scheduled to be painted, only the priming of work needed to be done. When all was done, we were relieved to know that Jeff found all the rot that needed to be addressed. Of course, the cost went up, but it continued to seem fair, especially when we knew that rotting was addressed and bad work originally done in the initial construction was now done in a superior way. I would hire Jeff and his crew again.

Woody the wood guy, Oleg the paint/siding and the window guy. All these guys are the hardest workers I have ever seen. They work diligently and they are all fast at what they do. Brian did an excellent job on my alarms.
