    I had been refereed to So Cal Builders & Design from an online home serve site. I first spoke with a lady from their call center, she was very helpful and polite. She took my info and told me I would get a phone call. I did not think I was going to get a return call but I did! That same day! ����. Avi returned the call, I explained what my project specs were and asked what was needed to start this project. Avi explained all the details so I would know what to expect for this size job. He then offered to make an appointment so I could see a current job site he and his team are working on. I took the opportunity; I am glad I did. I was so impressed with my meeting. The work site was amazing, the project had original stone work that will be preserved, the site looked organized and his team was working. It was all under control. Avi is very knowledgeable he answered all my questions and scenario that I needed advice on. I also had a chance to briefly meet the owner of the property. He was all smiles he could not say anything negative all praises and how honest and the great job Avi is doing.     Raul worked on our house in a span of two days, painting two bathrooms, our full kitchen, and 3 additional walls. The work also included patching of cracked drywall and even repairing the patching job of a previous job. He even went back to the paint store to rebuy a white paint so it matches exactly what is existing. Raul did honest hard work and charged a fair fee. He kept receipts for all the paint purchased and even worked around our pesky indoor dog. He listened to my concerns about what I want with the house in general and even gave thoughtful advice that saved me money. We already plan on hiring Color Fusion again to help us with some exterior painting and will recommend him to everyone in the neighborhood.

    Cielo Construction Company
    Tom Cohen and Joe Sapir were great. They went through the possibilities and options with us, including what we could do with our budget and possibilities for financing. We bought our house as part of a repossessed hillside property, and we had to buy it in "as is" condition with decades of deferred maintenance. We had chipped away at fixing up the interiors over the past ten years, and were ready for a major (and long overdue) overhaul of the exteriors. The house is 1,200 square feet, but the garage is basically two stories with the living area on the third floor. That means a lot of stucco to repair and a lot of surface to paint. We needed new windows to replace the 50-year old ones that were original with the house, along with a new front door and sliding glass door in the back. This included expanding the size of the windows so that they were bigger (and actually up to code). The insulation in the attic was very old and needed to be replaced as well. Our garage door was dented (by a previous owner) and needed to be replaced along with the motor. Our back porch was falling apart, and we needed that repaired and painted. Our back yard had little privacy and was too hot to spend much time in for most of the year, so we also had them put in a large alumawood patio cover that extends over the porch and most of the yard (to the edge of our garden). It was important to us not to just pick a "low bid" contractor and instead to get a company that would do the work with high-quality materials and skilled crews with proper insurance and quality guarantees. We wanted this to be the last major overhaul we have to do on the exteriors of this house. The crews that came to do all of the work were very skilled, and worked with us to make sure they were doing exactly the work we wanted. Each phase of the project went quickly and efficiently, with prompt inspections and "touch-ups" afterwards to make sure everything was done well. Tom and Joe were very responsive and communicated well with us throughout the projects. We are very happy with the work, and we got our money's worth.

    Amilcar's Construction
    Well, unfortunately, his worker did a great job around the doors, but then screwed up the cement. Amilcar came out to redo it, at which point I paid him in full for the job. He said it would take a few days for the cement to set. As you can see in the photo, his patch-up job stained the porch and cracked immediately. I called and texted him NUMEROUS times for 2 MONTHS begging him to come repair the bad job, but he never replied to ANY of my calls or texts. Now I have to hire someone to fix it, incurring additional costs. I'm so disappointed. This could have been avoided so easily.

    Clif Jones Painting Company
    I was going to hold off on reviewing this company, but I feel the need to warn others, after Clif bothering me about work he does not want to perform, out of the blue, on one of my very few days off from work (and, I thought, from Clif & his workers as well... but apparently no such luck) -- Thanksgiving Day. Clif does a lot of boasting, and it turns out getting him to deliver on what he boasts is a very arduous process. He consistently does not do what he says. All I expected was for him to do what he said. He said he'd be on the job site every day, which is far from true, among many other things. When you have concerns, if you like to be told things like (yes, these are direct quotes): "Why do you hate me so much?" and "Calm down"... And if you want to be told you are "flat out micromanaging" him, that you are "confrontational", and "combative" when you ask a simple question about the work being done (or not being done, as the case may be)... Then this is your man to work with.  Clif Jones is the most unprofessional person I have ever worked with. His employees are good and easy to work with. Yet, his degree of unprofessionalism leaves me in awe. If it weren't for his workers, I would give Clif an "F" in professionalism. Clif's foreman, Marco, communicates very well and listens when I speak -- even if/when there are mistakes -- instead of talking over me without letting me get even a sentence out, as Clif consistently does. If I could hire Marco without Clif, I would. As it is, the huge hike in price above other companies that Clif Jones does his best to justify via copious boasting & bullying, is really not worth it to me. Nothing is worth the way Clif Jones has behaved. My advice is shop around. Your options that are several thousand dollars less are probably a much better choice. Don't believe the hype (of Clif Jones).  I will elaborate more when it is not Thanksgiving Day, and when the job is complete. My update: I spent 10 hours today working on my own home with Clif's employees (I am very adept at the work, I just thought I was paying $16k for them to do it, not have to be so involved and work myself as well). There were many areas that were not properly scraped or sanded (and/or not scraped or sanded at all) before priming & painting -- I could peel the paint off with my fingers, literally, as I showed the workers & other witnesses. His workers were stressed because they said Clif told them they would be in trouble if they did not finish my house today. Even though Clif told me I was paying for three full weeks of work -- 6 days a week, 8 hours per day (be warned, they only actually work for 5-6 hours per day, on a good day) -- and it has only been 2.5 weeks of work. Clif is rushing his workers to wrap it up and it shows. I had to demand for them to do the work, and after much resistance, finally they did... But they did not finish and worked into the dark, and it was a very rough/unfortunate way to spend the evening. These emails (below) speak for themselves. If you want to be threatened to be sued and/or have a lien put on your house -- because you ask for time to review receipts and to have the job actually completed on you home: wow, Clif Jones is your man. Note: Marco said he was instructed by Clif to not leave my home until he got a check from me. Even though he knows the job is not complete. This is very creepy and unprofessional when the workers are already at my home 3 hours later than they are supposed to be, and you are a woman, alone, having this conversation in the dark on your patio -- where the worker is standing & says he will not leave. Clif put both Marco and me in a horrible & unprofessional situation, and I filed a complaint with the Contractor's State License Board tonight. I have ever experienced anything like this degree of bullying from someone I am hiring to do a job.

    Emails: Clif, It's clearly best to do things by the book with you. I should not have issued a check at all to you when the job is not yet complete. When it is complete, I will pay you, as agreed. In light of your hostile email, a stop-payment has been placed for the check I wrote to you. I should not have written it to begin with, as the job is not complete, and all my giving it to you did was cause hostility... Which is the opposite effect of what I wanted. As stated, I appreciate you and your employees not being at my home from now on unless I am here to supervise. I look forward to the job being complete. Marco knows what he bought & what he used, but he does not want to go through the receipts. It will take me time to figure out all of the receipts & materials -- and to sit down in the daylight to do so. I've been working with your men all day, helping them do their work on the house, since 730am -- because they said told them they had to finish today. I will give Marco a check for the remainder of the actual job bid, $5095, but not for the supplies -- until this is sorted out in a way that is fair and accurate. I also need to look the house over in the daylight to give my final approval. It is getting dark and they aren't done yet, there are a few things that aren't done yet -- like a switch-plate under the walkway that they removed & said they would cut to fit and/or replace. There is a missing screen & missing parts for two other screens. My plants & things are still moved around from the guys moving them. I will need at least one guy here another day to take care of these things -- in the daylight.     We were visited by Jared, the business' owner, after purchasing a deal on Angie's List for stucco repair/replacement for $2999. He was very friendly and professional. We got some solid advice from him, in that our initial goal was to flatten out the stucco. He gave us a quote for both repair and to flatten. The flattening would have cost up to $10,000. He ran the numbers for us and said we'd never make that money back if we were to sell the house. So we opted for the repair and painting. We had a number of broken pieces from wear and tear and from replacing the windows and having some electrical work done years ago. Those areas were simply patched without concern for matching up the texture of the stucco. Looked pretty crappy.
    When the crew came, they worked thoroughly and effectively, and finished ahead of schedule. The only complaint we had was quickly rectified by Jared. The crew had to move trash cans, ladders and cement blocks and opted to put them on newly planted ground cover and lavender bushes, killing them. We were upset because we felt they could have put heavy stuff on the concrete driveway, and positioned the ladders to avoid killing the landscaping. There was also a lot of dust and broken stucco on the ground around the entire house, which they cleaned up as best they could. (Hence our B rating for professionalism.)
    Within a day or two, Jared had purchased and delivered replacement plants, so we ended up happy again. They did a great job with the stucco, looks like new, and a fantastic job (inexpensive!) with painting as well. Because of this and the stellar customer service, we would recommend this company to friends and neighbors and already have!

    From the time we received the first estimate we were very impressed with the computer images shown. The construction workers have been professional, friendly and very helpful. The new bathroom is beautiful with new tile, Jacuzzi bathtub and toilet. Still waiting for the vanity to be installed. Also waiting for the roof to be repaired, But the sprinklers on the lawn are on a timer which helps a lot. The front of our house looks amazing with the paving stones. We are looking forward to the finished product.

    Wonderful work! Very complicated logistics with more than five layers of old roofing to demo before the new work could start. The roof work had to be coordinated with installation of a new HVAC roof system, new wiring for electrical, cable TV, phone system and internet to 8 rooms that was all on the flat roof as well as relocation of gas and water pipe also on the flat roof. Work had to be rescheduled a few times due to the delays of other trades. The roof has a concrete slab and there were many holes, cracks and penetrations that had to be repaired before the new roof could be applied including weather delays. Each time Danny (customer contact) was very accommodating and professional. The the contract was fulfilled completely. There were a few change orders i requested and the cost was as per the provisions of the contract. No surprises, no up-selling, no pressure only excellent work as promised.
