Kevin is very detailed and takes pride in doing a great job.  He knows the building codes and performs his work accordingly.  He is well versed on almost any home repair including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.  I would highly recommend Kevin and have used him on previous jobs.

It was time for a new exterior paint job on our home where my wife and I live in El Granada. Although the house is small, it sits on a hillside, so access for painting can be tricky. I contacted three paint companies on Angie's List and got bids.
When Mike Bright of M Bright Painting came, he was confident that his crew could handle the job easily without scaffolding. I said we wanted three colors, had never painted a house before, and needed help in selecting the colors and where to place them to accent the windows, doors, roofline and trim to get a result we would like. Mike assured us that he would come back and do that for us as the scheduled date for our job got closer.
His bid, at $3170, came in lowest of the three, and his Angies List reviews were very good, so we decided to go with him. All this was during the rainy season, so M Bright Painting was doing their best to schedule their various jobs around the uncertainties of the weather. At the beginning of January it was our turn.
    What We Liked Best

We are pleased with the final result. The house looks great.
The job went quickly, with most of it being completed in two days.
Jeff, the lead painter on the two-man crew that did the work, was pleasant, responsive, skilled and efficient a pleasure to work with.
The final price, although higher than the original bid, still came in lower than the two other bids.
    What Could Have Been Better

The biggest problem is that we did not get the help with color selection and design that we expected, and were left to decide on our own at the last minute. This was stressful.
We chose 3 colors from a Kelley-Moore color booklet that another contractor had left. Jeff painted on samples, and we didnt like how they looked. We picked four additional colors, and Jeff came back over the weekend to paint those. They expected us to make up our minds over the weekend, so they could order the paint and get started on Monday.
When Mike finally showed up to discuss design with us, the job was well under way and we had mostly done the design ourselves. His input was more about getting the job done in a hurry than in winding up with a look that would be pleasing to us. Im glad we pushed back and insisted on what we wanted.
Another issue is that the terms of the bid which had boilerplate small print specifying one-coat-coverage for most of the house was not discussed ahead of time with us. It would have been nice to to have the option of deciding ourselves on the trade-off between quality and cost on one-coat versus two-coat coverage. Our lack of understanding about that resulted in the $670 of unanticipated cost.

    Our Recommendations

    1. At the end of the day, these guys did a good, professional job at reasonable cost, and the painters were pleasant to work with. My recommendations if you want to use them:
    2. When it comes to color and design, be prepared to determine this on your own, or get any needed advise from a third party.
    3. Before agreeing to a contract, make sure you understand the trade-offs of cost and quality on one-coat vs. two-coat painting on the various parts of your house. Take charge of this and make the decision yourself.
4, Be prepared to closely inspect the work before you sign off on it. There were about a half dozen places on our house where touch-up work was required.

This project was an exceptional experience from the beginning. Dave was in touch immediately, and the level of communication throughout was fantastic. He had suggestions for color, and gave me samples for approval. His team was professional, respectful, and very neat. When they left for the day you couldn't tell there was anything going on, they cleaned up and left the property spotless. There was no goofing off, and the job was finished earlier than estimated. I would definitely hire Dave and his team again, and would happily recommend his services to others.

    Heather & French Painting
Working with Heather and French was a pleasure from start to finish.  Within a day of emailing her,  I received a call from Jane (one of the two owners),  who scheduled a visit within a day or two.  Jane arrived on time for the appointment; and I found her personable as well as professional.  I appreciated her suggestion that one of the jobs I was asking about didn't need to be done, despite the fact that she would be losing business if I followed her advice.  Within a few days, she provided a firm estimate (I prefer to avoid the bad surprises that generally come with "time and materials").  Heather and French are not the people to call if you're looking for a bargain, but the quality is worth every penny.  We scheduled the time that would be most convenient for me. A week prior to beginning the work, H & F called to see whether the time still worked for me, and asked for my paint choices.  Each day of the job, the crew arrived on time and worked conscientiously throughout the day, steadily and meticulously.  Every member of the crew was courteous, friendly, completely professional, and highly skilled.  Altogether, the work took about four and a half days to complete.  Kevin and Lev, who did the pressure washing, carefully removed several ceramic masks we had hung under the eaves of the house - so that they wouldn't be damaged by the washing - and replaced them afterward.  I was always asked to look over the work before they left to be sure I was pleased.  I am delighted with the quality of the painting.  In general, it's true that no one cares as much about how the work is done as the homeowner, but this is not the case with Heather and French.  I've never seen more careful, conscientious, and meticulous workmanship.  Customer support  was also excellent:  both Jane and Jill, the second owner, were a pleasure to work with, and when I discovered a minor problem the day after the work was completed, Jill offered to send someone down immediately - an hour's drive away - to handle it.  I will definitely think of Heather and French the next time I need painters; I have complete faith in them.
