    Fence Max Inc
I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who hired FenceMax to replace their deck for approximately $80k to have their deck replaced and who wanted to add a gable and outdoor kitchen. FenceMaxs Max Fraedrich came to their home back in 04/2019 and provided an estimate. When asked if a permit was needed, Max insisted a permit was NOT needed. Max presented the project to my mother who decided to award him the job and again at contract signing asked Max if he was sure that a permit was not needed. Max again stated that a permit was not needed. Maxs crew was amazing and worked even in the rain. To date, portions of the deck railing and side gates remain incomplete and pieces of the glass have slipped onto the deck. Some of the rails are also loose and unstable. Lights were also to be added and none of that was prepped for or completed either. The kitchen my parents paid almost $20k for cannot be installed due to the lack of obtaining a permit. For almost $80k you would think that plumbing and electrical and side gates would be included. Instead, Max requested an additional $1k to add side gates like my parents had before and left the old black rotted wire gates as an eyesore. A city official showed up to the house back in 07/2019 and issued a stop work order and advised that a permit was absolutely necessary before work could continue, he also recommended we file a formal complaint with the CSLB against Max. Max was notified and ended up submitting plans to the city which came back in 09/2019 with 30+ corrections needed. Each time we tried to make contact to find out when Max plans on submitting corrections the responses ranged from there are 30+ errors to medical procedures. All this was via text message and never once since the list of errors was received has Max had the courtesy to actually speak to us over the phone. My father is 93 years old with heart failure and the reason for the outdoor kitchen is to limit the cooking done inside the home so that he does not retain CO2 which impacts his health. My mother is 67 and has had multiple strokes and sits and cries multiple times each day over losing her savings and the potential of having to tear down this deck. Both of my parents are very ill and have lost use of their backyard since 04/2018. If they have to end up tearing everything down, this situation could end up costing upwards of $200k to correct. My parents used money from their savings to have this work completed and it could be a total loss. Not once has Max had the decency to apologize or take responsibility for his actions, wrong-doing or for his failure to pull the permit PRIOR to beginning the job. It is clear now that Max was only after the cash because he was always on time to pick up his checks. Max decided to add me as a friend on Facebook and allowed me the opportunity to discover that in the past month while he had the list of errors, he was actually on vacation. No one has a problem with him being on vacation, however I do have an issue with lack of honesty. Simply notifying my parents or I that he was on vacation would have been enough and it would have been understandable. My parents and I are very understanding people, however when we are being strung along and not even given a timeline for completion and submission of corrections, my parents and I have lost all patience. It is wrong what you have done to my parents and it is even more wrong that you are now completely ignoring all calls and texts. Texts can be utilized in a CSLB complaint and in a legal case. Not responding to emails and calls can also be proven using phone logs. We dont want to take this situation to the next level, however my parents health and well-being has been compromised due to not being able to use their backyard. It is wrong on so many levels to do this to them when we have repeatedly notified you that they rarely leave their home. If you have any conscience and empathy at all, you will work to quickly correct this issue. Everything must be completed prior to 11/10/2019.

    Bison Constructors
In 2015-2016 Jason (Bison Constructors) completely transformed the exterior of my house. There was severe dry-rot that had destroyed the 2nd floor deck and had eaten into structural beams holding up the 2nd floor bedroom. The board and batten siding was in seriously dilapidated condition. We had several dry-rot experts come to assess the damage. One said we should move out immediately because the house was about to fall down. He said he would charge $80K to repair the damage. Another contractor estimated $100K. Others wouldn't touch the project. We found Bison Constructors online and asked Jason to come out and inspect the damage. He noted that the 2nd floor was actually sagging several inches. He said he would have to remove some of the siding to see how the beams were run before he could give us an estimate. We gave him the go-ahead to remove what he needed to give us the estimate. I thought that was a good sign, that he was the first one to delve deep enough to find out what was going on before throwing out a huge bid. I braced myself waiting for his bid. Finally he sent us back a bid for $12,000. He showed us exactly what he would do, jacking up the second floor, replacing and reinforcing structural vertical beams, replacing horizontal beams on the other side of the house, completely rebuilding a new deck and replacing the rotting board and batten siding all around the house. We really had a sense that Jason knew what he was talking about and that we were in safe hands. The bid was so low compared to what we were expecting that we threw in replacing 2 sliders and 5 windows. That was phase one. I wanted a permanent solution to the board and batten siding that was still vulnerable to rot and needed a thorough paint job. I found a pre-painted composite siding called LP Smartside which is dry-rot and termite resistant and has a 30 year warranty. Jason gave us an estimate to tear off all the old batten and board siding and replace it with the Smartside, install a new chimney, replace 2 doors and 3 more windows. The price was very reasonable and he let me do any painting involved which saved me money. He researched the Smartside product to make sure he was installing it according to the manufacturer's specifications. The end result was stunning as you can see in the before and after pictures. Not only does it look like a new house it is also structurally sound and resistant to dry-rot and termites. Throughout the whole project Jason was the best person to work with. He always listened to what we wanted and worked with us to figure out the best way to do things. He would always keep us informed of what was going on, any possible delays or variations in cost that are inevitable on any big project. He also cooperated well with another contractor that was installing new gutters. He's extremely hard working, dependable and very smart. Also respectful of our privacy, didn't play loud music, etc. always cleaned up. We were really grateful to find Jason and refer him to all of our friends who need work done on their homes. Jason replaced a window for a friend of mine and the result came out fantastic. When the old window was removed the stucco had to be torn out 3 inches around the frame of the window. Jason replaced the window and repaired the stucco so well you can't tell it was repaired. See the picture! My friends are extremely happy with the way it turned out. We all agree that Jason is a true professional in every sense of the word. Thanks Jason for the amazing job you did on our house! You're the best!

    Paving Stone Of San Diego
We got three quotes. All three were pretty comparable in price; however, Josh from Paving Stone of San Diego went above and beyond the rest. Along with his quoted price he created a color visual of what our yard would look like when it was completed and did not charge for the computer generated drawing. Once we signed up, Josh offered his expertise in regards to the type and colors of the pavers. He brought several samples and left them with us so we could decide on the final colors. We werent sure what we actually wanted so Josh created a design for us and we loved it. The work started pretty quickly. Ernie and his team worked very hard and long hours, every day until the job was done to our satisfaction. Ernie has a lot of experience and made a few helpful suggestions to make the yard even more attractive. This did mean more money; however, Josh did his very best to keep the cost as close to our budget as possible. Josh stopped by frequently to check the progress of the job and once it was completed, he came back and did a thorough inspection. We love the work that Paving Stone of San Diego did and would definitely recommend them to others. In fact, we have already recommended them to two other people.

    Triple P Construction
The contractor made an appt to view the work that needed to be done so he could prepare an estimate. He arrived on time and met with my husband on 6/23. On 6/28, provided us an estimate for another deck, which we wanted done later as the deck over garage was leaking and takes priority. He asked for a 2nd appt to discuss finishing for the garage deck before providing that estimate. I arranged to meet with him the next day, 6/29. I received a quote from another contractor that seemed reasonable so I emailed him to let him know if he could not meet or beat the quote I had received, it would probably be best if we cancelled the meeting. He called me to say he was running late for the appointment. I told him what I had emailed him and that I did not want to waste either of our time if he could not meet or beat the other quote. He said he already wasted time and maybe he shouldn't do free estimates and quit listing on Angie's List. This was one of my concerns over obtaining quotes, how the contractor would react if we did not accept his/her quote. Lesson learned for future projects as this is my first major project on my home. I had to answer the questioning about Hiring Again even though I did not pay anything.

    Best-Rate Repair & Termite Company
Richard did an outstanding job of repairing and rebuilding the front wooden gate The job entailed stabilizing the two front 4 x 4's on each side of the gate. Once that was done Richard built a new gate with new heavy duty hinges and gate latch. He used all new wood to complete a new gate and added a brace to insure the gate would not sag. After installation he stained the new gate wood to match the existing front fence. If you need wood repair this is the best company to have do it. Not the cheapest but the best.

    Best-Rate Repair & Termite Company
Long story short, He charges 1000 a day for labor and materials plus 15%. That is 3 times the going labor rate and I did not pay anyone an extra 15% for materials on previous work. The price is outrageous and I don't think a good representation for Angie's List. I called some friends to get the name of a licensed contractor who told me he will do it for $35 and hour plus cost of materials (No added charges), that happens to be exactly what I paid for all previous work I had done.

    Veria Construction
I googled for a construction deck company in San Diego, CA. I left five messages, and nobody responded, only veria construction responded back to me right away. We set up an appointment to meet the same day, for a free estimate, and they built my new, approximately 300 square ft, redwood deck, with no problem from start to finish. The price was very reasonable, they did a fantastic job. I highly recommend this construction company to anyone

    Parker Concrete
It was good, but he wanted to demo first and then pour patio. I felt like it could create problem because of scheduling. He was courteous, polite and was on the ball. The pricing was fair and tried to save me money by doing the demo first.
