Appliance Repair reviews in Downey

The service guy was supposed to show up during a 12-3 time slot. I got a call around 2:30 telling me he was going to be an hour late. The time came and went. I called and was told I was on his list and he would be there but they could not pinpoint a time. I called again at 6pm and was told he would show up at my home but no time was given. I asked and was told the guy works as late as it takes him to finish. Great, now I just have to keep waiting for him. (sarcasm) He showed up at 630 stating he had alot of calls. Just fix the dryer. He did, the belt was broken and some other part needed replacing. The dryer worked but what gets me is even if I have an appt. time frame it isn't honored and this isn't the only place that does this. The truck the guy arrived in did not say Sears home services, it said A & E, so Sears must contract with them. Also the Sears call center must be in the Phillipines because I kept getting very heavy accented people that were hard for me to understand at times.

They arrived a little later than we wanted to but at least they got the job done pretty quickly. We explained what we were having problems with and they were able to diagnose it.  They replaced the coils in the dryer and now the dryer works great. These guys need some work on arrival time but I can't argue the excellent job they did Thanks!

I called Fred and he came out to the house within an hour. No frills, immediately got down to the inspection, within 10 minutes diagnosed the problem and within 30 minutes the issue was resolved and he was outta the house.

I called them after reading reviews from others about their low and fair pricing. This was the first time I called them. I have a few properties here and called this company to get a washer fixed with broker switch. Guy quoted me more then it will cost me to replace The washer. Called some one else and only payed $50 compare to $125 this guy was charging me....All I have to say is they are very pricey and will never call them again....

I called Jorge at 10 am on a Monday morning. He was here by 10:15. He completed the repair in 30 minutes. He also fixed a minor problem with our refrigerator (no parts involved) at no extra charge.

I found the The Appliance Repair Team (www.aarapp.com)  in the phonebook for repairing a stove and replace plastic waterline to a new refigerator.  On the stove we needed to replace 2  ingniters. He quoted $140 for parts and $60 for labor and later changed it to $160 for labor. He had this in writing, which I saw and then disposed it and stated not having it anymore.
His job was to replace an old plastic waterline from sink to refrigerator approximately 6 feet long. So no new drilling or special connection would have to be installed and he quoted me $150 for labor and $30 for parts and later gave me a "new customer discount" of $30 making it a total of $150, which was overcharge.
After writing the invoice, there was no address and licence # on the invoice, which is required by law. When I asked the technician what his address was, he did not know. When I asked him the license #, I was told that "they are independent contractors" indicating as if they are not required the license number.

We have been dealing with Kawanna who has been very nice but the fridge has not been fixed. We have been living out of an ice chest for 6 weeks and the refrigerator is less than 2 years old. They have been out to our home at least 6 times and we have to wait at least 7 days between each time. They send a different repair person each time. They originally came out because the temperature went up to 46 or 48 degrees because the cooling fan went out. The part he had to fix it was the wrong one the first time. He put it in and it didn't cool our fridge. We have lost 3 loads of food.

I used another referral service when looking for a handyman.  I received an immediate response from a man stating he was from this company and using this phone number.  His name is Alan Garay (aka Alex).  When he wrote up his initial estimate it was on a form with "Alpha Appliances" it and when he sent an email to me it also had "Alpha Appliances" on it and this phone number is on papers I received from him . He seemed to be a very honest and professional person.  Everything he suggested sounded terrific.  When he asked for cash payment his explanation sounded reasonable.  He promised to start immediately and to work on the project exclusively until completion.  On the surface the work appeared to be proceeding correctly.  When I asked for receipts I was given convincing excuses.  As time dragged on and sections of the work were not being finished properly I began to question his professionalism.  When he was supposed to be doing the deep cleaning of the house was obvious that he didn't have the foggiest idea of how to accomplish it.  One excuse followed another until I ran out of time and just told him to leave even though I had paid for work that was either not done or done poorly.  When I demanded a refund he disappeared.  Since that time I have been told by professionals that most of the work that was done was done incorrectly (laughably) and some had to be redone immediately.  The only reason that I haven't taken legal action is because I don't have receipts for everything although I do have some cancelled checks and I have very little in writing.  I was extremely foolish!  I can't believe I fell for his lies!  He did clearly state that he worked for Alpha Appliances but I haven't been able to confirm it.  If you are contacted by someone named Alan or Alex Garay - BE CAREFUL!

They aswered the phone and showed up on time for the estimate/repair. The repairman was very honest with me about what needed to be done and how it was really going to cost more to repair than unit than buy a new one of the same caliber. He did manage to get it running at no charge beyond the estimate fee but warned it would probably break again soon.. and it did. All in all a good experience - except that I have to buy a new dishwasher.
