It always goes great. We've been coming here for 20 years. Over the years, the whole intake, waiting, and paying has gotten more and more efficient. Dr. Baer does great with the cats, and is willing to answer questions, and offer options. Once, we had an emergency with our new cat, and thanks to his thoroughness, what could have ended her life was resolved. He saved her life! May seem a bit pricey, but I think these are the going rates in this neighborhood.

Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar
We like our veterinarian a lot. We have a dog and three cats and we use them all the time. They are all rescues from the pound. It is an expensive area and they reflect that. They take in emergencies and I understand some of the late appointments.

We cannot even begin to express how WONDERFUL Charles was! First of all, we contacted him at the very last minute, the day before the wedding. We had planned for Beanie to be taken back to the Hilton by family and placed in his kennel for the evening to stay by himself, as he has done in the past. However, when we left him alone Thursday night, he barked non-stop for four hours! We then recognized we had a huge problem during the wedding and scurried to come up with a solution. Coming from Phoenix and not knowing any local service providers, we did an Internet search and luckily happened upon Charles and Healthy Paws Pet Specialists. Charles drove to L'Auberge and met us in the lobby after the wedding ceremony to pick up Beanie and his belongings. On top of that he took Beanie to a nearby park to exercise and play before driving to the Del Mar Hilton and checking in with him. Charles is extraordinary! Beanie loved him, and it was obvious Charles has a thorough understanding of dogs and a deep connection with them. He is professional and dependable and did exactly as he promised. Charles is warm and personable. At $55 for six hours of care plus driving and picking him up, his prices are extraordinarily low. Charles is also extremely knowledgeable. He recognized that Beanie was a little too thin and politely told us so and then followed-up with emailing us a chart showing the proper weight for a dog his size. If there was an "A+" category in the review options, I would without hesitation give Healthy Paws Pet Specialists an A+ in every category! He has earned our highest recommendation and our deep gratitude!!

    Hot Dog On A Leash
We have to recommend Hot Dog On A Leash for dog owners who are looking for training. We have found both Randy and Heather to be dog lovers who are excellent trainers, reliable, professional and genuinely interested in helping their clients. Their rates are very reasonable and we really like that the training takes place one on one in real life places where there are lots of other dogs and people.
They have led us through basic obedience lessons with our rescue Lab and we are now beginning the intermediate training.

Let me start this by saying-if I could give 6 stars I would! On a recent visit to San Diego, I was looking for someone to take care of my older dog Fang. Fang isn?t the friendliest of dogs but it was obvious that Charlie was a dog whisperer. We were staying at a hotel in Del Mar and Healthy Paws was able to take him to the dog beach, give his anti-inflammatories, and bring him back squeaky clean after we played all day at Seaworld and Disneyland. It takes a lot for me to trust someone with my dog because he is an older guy but the experience of this company left me at ease knowing that they have the training to handle any scenario old fang could have gotten into. Thanks Healthy Paws Pet Specialists!!

I love Dr. Baer. I always try to schedule with him, so I don't know the other vets as well. I've been taking my cats here for about 15 years, and am quite pleased with the professionalism, calm and friendly manner, and knowledge that Dr. Baer exhibits. He always takes time to explain treatment options to me in a manner that I understand. He is also sensitive to cost and explains the advantages and disadvantages to me. They refer out to specialty hospitals when needed.
They call you back with test results. When one cat had a more serious issue, Dr. Baer calls to see how the cat is doing.
They also give you price estimates for everything, be it the exam, vaccines, or dental work. I feel fortunate to have such a good veterinary hospital so close to me.
My only "problem" is that you sometimes have to wait a while when you show up for your appointment. But, this is typical of any doctor's office, and I have learned to accept it. In a similar manner, you sometimes have to wait for the bill to find it's way to the front, so sometimes you have to wait to pay and finish. But, these are minor issues.
All the staff is very pleasant and friendly, too. They also have Saturday hours, which is great for those of us who can't always get in during the week.

My sick dog is progressing nicely since then. I am going to them for a while. They are just very nice. They don't rush you, they always make calls and always checking up on the animals, they are responsive, and they are very knowledgeable.

It was very good but is somewhat on the expensive side. They would play with the cat and had videos of birds they would show it. They had nice enclosures and it was a nice place; I felt comfortable leaving my cat there. They seemed to be very caring; that seemed to be the most important thing. I will use them again in the future.

    Loving Touch Pet Sitting
Ginette was absolutely wonderful. She loves cats and took care of my kitties as though they were her own. She has a gentle way with the kitties, and was able to give the sick kitty his medication, including oral chemotherapy for a lymphoma. She is a gem.

    Do It Yourself Dog Wash
Horrible. A nightmare. I brought my dog for a nail trim explaining I didn't have an appointment but asked if they had time, how much it would cost and how long it would take. The Owner said they had time, it would cost $10 and take '5 seconds'. I said OK and they put my dog on the table but somehow couldn't restrain her and she fell to the floor. (This dog is 15 years old, not a big dog and certainly not feisty!). The groomer apologized (I think, it was in Spanish.) Looking back, I should have left then. I asked how much for a 'wash'. The Owner said $30. So I said OK. Then I looked over back at my dog and she was getting very stressed and I started to worry that the 'groomer' (and I use this term loosely) really knew what he was doing with the nail trim. Then the groomer said something in Spanish to the Owner who said it would now be $40 to wash her. I looked to the Owner to question the sudden up-charge, then back at the groomer who by then was applying what appeared to be styptic or blood clotter on my dog's paw. I asked him what he was doing, did he cut the dog's paw. He claimed he hadn't. I went back to the Owner to ask what was going on and he said my dog's foot wasn't bleeding but there is a vein running down dog's nail beds so they were applying a blood clotter. I started to protest, then the groomer said something else to the Owner in Spanish again and the Owner announced it would be $60 for the wash because my dog's fur was completely matted. I disagreed because that's simply not true. Then more Spanish. Then the Owner said she would have to be completely shaved. I protested that the dog didn't need shaving. (This dog has beautiful fur. She just won a national dog beauty contest, her second, with fur really in the same shape. It's amazing how little maintenance this dog's fur needs - just a wash now and then.). I guess the Owner didn't liked being contradicted, anyway, he totally weirded out and very, very rudely told us to leave. "I don't need customers like you!" Unbelievable. Glad though I got my dog out of there before they did 'wash' her. I caught a glimpse of the table that held the grooming brushes, etc., that they would have used on her - it was filthy disgusting. If you love your dog do not go here.
