Using Angie's list I emailed Moe (beginning of May) and he indicated interest in the project and started a series of emails where he said he could bid it by photos. Then, he sent two reps over to look at the existing slab and provide literature regarding overlay possibilities. Time keeps ticking on, and I keep requesting that Moe stop by and give me a hard price instead of the waffling $5500 to $7000 price I received by email.
Finally after sending numerous emails I receive one from Moe stating that his mother is in poor health and Moe is out of the country...ok, fine by me, take your time. Sent them another email after a period and then on July 1st an email from his "office manager" stating that Moe was back, however, somehow 5 contracts had been executed before they could get to me and that I might want to get another vendor. No Integrity, strung me out for 90 days and I got nowhere.
I did call Newland Landscapes and they had the job done in two weeks.

Very happy with the results.  They even provided service years later to repair the damage the Association painters did to the Alumiwood patio cover when they walked on it.  I greatly appreciated that.

We used Sea Breeze Construction for a fairly sizable (approx 5000 sq ft) landscape / hardscape project.
We removed and replaced almost everything surrounding the house front, side and back yards. Sea Breeze performed the demo and grading and then installed concrete, block walls, pavers, fencing, drainage, irrigation and softscape (plantings).
In the front yard we had them take out the grass, remove the concrete driveway and brick veneer patio and create a beautiful courtyard by building a pony wall, laying pavers, creating several planting beds, the foundation for a fountain, and install a wider driveway.
On the side yards they installed a new composite and steel fence with a concrete curb and poured new concrete for the walkways.
The back was transformed from a plain concrete patio with a small strip of grass to a larger colored concrete space with a useful planting area where we now also have a fountain and spa. They stripped down a 2000 sq ft steep slope previously filled with not-so attractive wild growth, and replanted it with a beautiful set of plants that is currently growing in. They also added some accents to the slope such as a set of steps, a separate herb garden area, and a viewing seat/bench.
The project took close to 3 months from start to finish, and they got a lot done in that time. They were onsite almost every day that wasnt raining or a holiday. They handled everything we asked for with the exception of the electrical, only because it went beyond the basic low voltage landscape lighting that they would do. With such a complex project, we struggled a little finding a contractor that was able to handle all of the pieces of this job and was also able to work with us in a manner in which we were comfortable. We were very detail driven, but would not be available on site everyday to make decisions or to help resolve issues which might crop up. We were also concerned about staying within our budget.
Mike Hargreaves managed our project and he was really great to work with. We started with a simple drawing prepared by another designer and adjusted as we went along based on realities. Mike provided detailed estimates, laid out the entire project into phases, and then billed us weekly based on the work completed. With a project spanning that length of time, we really appreciated that business model. The statement of work he laid out was detailed and very clear and we always discussed potential changes prior to the work being initiated. He also made suggestions along the way for things that he thought might look better. Mike pulled the necessary permits from our city and worked with them through signoff. Mike was responsive to our queries throughout the work. We corresponded by email or phone and he was on site at least once on most days. He always communicated with us including: the
plans for the week ahead, planned deliveries, changes in the crew, any issues or delays.
His foremen and workers were just fantastic great work ethic and excellent at their jobs. Our neighbors commented often about how hard they worked and how well they maintained the jobsite while in process. We ran into an issue with humid weather (fog) that moved in suddenly the day the concrete driveway was poured, but the workers got creative with ways to accelerate the drying and wouldnt leave until it was at a point where they could work the finish correctly which meant they stayed on the jobsite quite late in the evening. They kept a great attitude, though, and knew if they rushed the drying process it would not set well. They took great pride in their work and appear to be quite customer oriented. We presented a very un-traditional fence design to them, and they executed it
flawlessly; it looks fantastic and should last a lifetime.
Overall, we are very happy with the results. There has been a significant change to the appearance of the yard which we had thoughtfully planned and Sea Breeze Construction was able to execute very well.
We have, and continue to recommend Sea Breeze Construction to our friends and neighbors.

    Sunland Concrete & Masonry Inc
Mike Santuci (Sunland Concrete) was the final concrete contractor we interviewed, after speaking with several others located physically closer to our home. Before making our decision, we had to sort out whether Mike's confident persona was based on knowledge and skill, or just excess testosterone. After speaking further and receiving a very competitive price, we went with our gut feeling that Mike was indeed for real, and this played out as true throughout the project. As opposed to some contractors who show up in a gleaming monster truck only to collect your money, never get their hands dirty, and use workers off the street, Mike was physically there every day, part of the crew (leadership by example), never too "special" to pick up a shovel or hammer. He was accompanied by a top-notch group of hardworking, customer-oriented men of high caliber, who are regular employees - these guys have been with Mike for many years, cross-trained in all the required skills, and functioned together like a "well-oiled machine."  Mike also smartly leverages a small multipurpose tractor to eliminate unnecessary man-hours, damage, and injuries, ultimately saving the customer money and giving Mike a significant advantage in price and completion time. The pervasive attitude throughout was get it right the first time, nothing less will do, including several suggested changes (by Mike) to the plan itself, plus one minor re-do to achieve the original design intent. As Mike relates to customer concerns and wishes, the answer was always ultimately "Yes" (right answer). As this was Phase One, we look forward to providing some photos of the completed project, hopefully in a few months. To sum up this portion of the effort, let's just say that we can't imagine having gone with anyone else. You can choose Sunland Concrete with absolute confidence.

    T & E Concrete Contractors Inc
Tom, Owner completed two projects at my daughter's house.  The professionalism, creativity, and knowledge about concrete was beyond the typical grey slab.  Tom shared ideas, background information, and responded to and clarified every 'why' question throughout the entire process.  There was no question that I wanted Tom to work on my home.  Tom gave us a fair bid after discussing most of the details, and began work as soon as possible.  The demolition went smoothly.  Simultaneously, the retaining wall was built. As finer details (every job will have modifications) were discussed, elevation variations were completed and stone was applied to the retaining wall.  The next day, rebar was installed for the pour the following day.  Tom wasted no time, was efficient and detail oriented.  The job site was clean at all times and every employee knew exactly what was expected throughout their work day.  Tom was on site everyday overseeing every step of the process.  I could not be more pleased with T & E Concrete, Tom, and his employees.  It was a pleasure to work with Tom, especially knowing that I did not have to worry and micromanage the job.  I would hire this company again and highly recommend them.

When my wife and I decided to redo our entryway in front of our house we did a lot of research to find a landscaper and designer that would be right for the job. My wife wanted to tear out the wood deck and have it completely redone in stone and stamped concrete. We found Signature Landscape on Yelp and everyone gave Moe such great reviews we had to call him up. We had already consulted with a couple other companies so we had an idea of what it was going to cost, but once we met Moe we really liked him. He was so friendly and gave a couple of really great suggestions on what we could do to make the project look better. We decided right away that we wanted to hire him just based on his great reviews and his friendly and helpful manner, but we didn't tell him that. We wanted to see what price he would come up with first. He noticed my Purple Heart license plates and asked if I was in the Military, I told him that both my wife and I were. Well, once he heard that he said he really wanted to work with us and gave us a military discount that was lower than any other quote we had received. Needless to say the work that Moe and his crew did was excellent, we would highly recommend him to anyone. He is very friendly and always goes out of his way to make sure his customers are completely satisfied. It has been about a year now since the work has been done and we couldn't be happier.
