    J & H Microwave & Appliance
7-26-16: Our GE Monogram Microwave, circa 1997 finally died yesterday. So sad... Not that it died, but that it was built-in to our very expensive kitchen cabinets and there is not another model on the face of the Earth that will fit in that same space. At least not without some major cabinetry work. Anyway, I know a little bit about this stuff and I figured it was probably a burned out Magnetron, so instead of screwing around, I looked for place that specializes in Microwave repair and J & H was the only place with a physical shop, that would allow me to bring it in myself and not pay for a service call simply to pick it up. Called J & H yesterday and they said it probably WAS the Magnetron and quoted me a price of $175.00 on the spot for the part. I took it in to their shop, got a call 3 hours later with a quote for the new Magnetron ($203.00... what???). So a little higher than they quoted me on the phone, but the labor was only 40 bucks, so I can't really complain. People gotta make a living. The important thing here is that they are going to fix and get it back to us, fast. Probably 4 day turnaround (part will be there in 2-3 days). So that's great. I did not realize how much we use our Microwave until it was gone. So far, I'm very impressed with the service and the price, and will definitely use them again. UPDATE: 10-10-17 Love these guys! My old built-in Microwave stopped working again the other day and once again I called on J&H to help us, and help us they did. This time they had to go deep into the circuit board and found a burned out Capacitor. Cost me 70 bucks parts and labor. Worth every penny! It is a amazing to me in this day and age of "throwaway" circuit boards that someone is still willing to sit down with a Soldering Iron and do this kind of technical repair. I doubt many places would have had the expertise for a repair like this. Could not be happier.

Great. Peter arrived in the agreed time window and promptly fixed the refrig. The leak was cured and Peter left. However, after Peter fixed the leak in front, we realized that it was also leaking form the back. Rey returned, pulled the refrig. out, made an adjustment to the defrost hose. No more leak. We were only billed for the first visit.

    Sears Appliance Repair
A Sears Repair man came to my house the next day to check the model of my oven. He immediately ordered the part needed to be shipped directly to my house. When the part arrived, I called the Sears Repairman. He came to my home on Christmas Eve to install the part. I was able to use my large bottom oven to roast the Christmas Turkey. I have had other Sears Repairmen out, and they all have been courteous and prompt and have always solved my problems.

He came on time.  He decided that the fridge was low on freon and then decided to charge it.  I asked him if he would fix the leak.  He said no.  He charged me a couple of hundred to recharge the system and did not fix the leak.  Once he was done the fridge did not seem to get colder and he said he did not know why.
It turned out he did not know what he was doing.  I later called a company which specialized in fridge repairs and they told me that the repair he did was incorrect and illegal - both the type of valve he installed and recharging a system to fix the leak.  In fact I was told there was no original leak and that he put too much freon in the system.  I had to pay the second company a couple of hundred dollars to fix what his shoddy and incorrect work.  They then found the real problem which was a frozen fan which they defrosted.
So, in short, he made an illegal repair which I had to pay someone to undo and he did not fix my problem.

    De Anza Appliance
The repair guy came to our house. He finished the work in 10 minutes. I had run out to drop the kids at school and he finished while I was out. I asked him to wait for 10 minutes. He then went and asked my husband who also asked him to wait for 10 minutes until I got back. At that point this guy threw his folder down, told my husband he would put us on a list of customers that De Anza Appliances would ever service and he called my husband a d*********.  Please do not get service from this place.

    Rosano's Appliance Repair
Called Rosano's several times (left messages, spoke to provider once). Got some basic information regarding possible part needed, but then never able to reach Rosano's to schedule the appointment. After 30 days, I scheduled my repair with another repair company (company that sold me the dishwasher). They were able to inspect and repair the dishwasher two days later.

We have used them repeatedly over the years, and always been extremely pleased with the service.  We specifically ask for Peter MacConnell every time.  He has a craftsman's ethic about the quality of his work, and it shows.  I cannot recommend him highly enough.

    De Anza Appliance
De Anza Appliance came out and they assessed the 2 appliances we called them about and one of them was too costly to repair. So we declined to have that service done. The other one had to be replaced. But we have used them in prior years and they have carried out repairs on other appliances and they've done a great job. They're very cost-wise. They're competitive. They're very friendly, professional, and very prompt. They completed the repair quickly. It was done within an hour or 2. At one point, during Thanksgiving, they had to repair my oven. They came quickly and took care of it and I was so happy. So they're very good. I would definitely consider them first. They know what they're doing. If they cannot do it, they will let you know.

    Electric Express Appliance Inc
The service person who arrived was quite brusque. While he performed his job efficiently, the part didn't last beyond two weeks when it blew again. The assertion on the second visit was that, the dryer vent was at fault. We had Sears come over and verify the vent was clean. Despite that Electric Express Appliance did not offer to replace the short-lived part for free, but wanted us to spend an additional 250$ to replace the part a second time. At that point, I did not see it worth pursuing.
The concept of mean time to failure for a part seemed new. They were unable to provide any performance data for the thermal fuse when it was replaced the first time. They also seemed incapable of diagnosing if any other factors might have caused the thermal fuse to blow.
