    Nature's Touch
Pedro and his assistant came on a Saturday to repair/adjust the sprinklers, the timer, and drip system in my front and back yard and also to plant 4 lily of the nile plants in my backyard. They arrived on time and did a excellent job. I love that Pedro has expertise in sprinkler repair and installation as well as gardening and landscaping. He is knowledgeable and conscientious about doing a good job. His pricing is very fair and reasonable and he is open on Saturdays! He's just great!!

    Fernando's Complete Landscape & Hardscape
I've had Fernando's guys coming to my place every Monday for the last year or so, and they're fantastic.  They do everything they're supposed to do correctly, and they even do a little more - occasionally I'll find that they've put new succulents into one of my empty flower pots, or added small accent plants to my front garden.  Can't recommend them enough for gardening work.  I also reached out to Fernando to handle a tiling / gas fire pit job in my back yard and he got it done very affordably.

    Torres Tree Service Inc
Start to finish it would be difficult for anything to go better.  Highly professional and skilled; respectful of the property, left everything in better condition than when they arrived.  I was impressed with the ways that the crew worked as a team to accomplish their goals.  We had great confidence in their ability to see what needed to be done and to do the task.

    Del Mar Landscaping
I absolutely loved working with Conrad and Del Mar Landscaping.
We had a dingy, dark front yard with a dead lawn and very much wanted to replace it with a low-water alternative. I did not know much about landscaping or plants so I spoke to several providers to see who might best help us through the process. Some providers clearly wanted to promise me the moon (at a very high cost), and others seemed uninterested in our modest budget and many questions. When Conrad came out I was very impressed with his no-nonsense attitude and ability to answer my concerns regarding what our yard would support with the amount of light it received. He listened to what we wanted to do and was quick to send a very reasonable estimate.
Because he was in high demand it took a while to schedule him, which was fine with us as we were not in a rush. As we waited for our scheduled work week we asked him to send a written design. He does not normally do that, but he was willing to oblige and sent over a list of plants we might enjoy as well as a preliminary layout. It really helped jump-start the conversation and helped my husband and me visualize how the yard might look. I sent a number of emails to Conrad with questions and he always responded to them thoughtfully and completely. (Not always quickly, as he was very busy, but as I said we had some time to work with and the responses were always in enough time.)
When work began, on the first day Conrad did not come himself but sent his 3-man crew for demo. Crew leader Abel was very gracious and they took out two overgrown schefflera trees and did complete cleanup of all branches. I had to leave for work, but was very comfortable leaving my home key with them so they could wash up.
On the second day they removed all the old dirt and roots and put down new dirt. And on the third day, Conrad joined the crew and they planted everything and put down pavers and decomposed granite. I raced home from work at lunchtime and Conrad worked with me to place the pavers and the plants before planting. We both were just winging it from his basic design but when I arrived home that evening everything was done and the area was clean and tidy. It all happened very quickly and my husband and I are very happy.
The only downside became an upside: as the crew cut down the tree, a falling branch broke the head off a lamppost in the yard. I asked if Conrad would allow me to take a replacement cost off the final bill, and he agreed readily.
Would I work with Conrad again? Yes! Would I recommend him to you? Yes!

    Distinctive Landscaping Services Inc
He drew a diagram of the property, evaluated all parts of the sprinkler system and then, on his weekend, wrote an elaborate report explaining all the problems and options.  For this I only paid $75!!!  Now I do apparently need a TON of work, which will be very expensive, but I learned a lot that I didn't know before, e.g., I am very water-conscious and learned that I have been wasting water for years, and allowing my patio to disintegrate from mold caused by poor sprinkler placement.  He was wonderful, efficient, professional and responsive.

Dona is hands down the best contractor we have worked with. We bought our 1950s home a year and a half ago and it came with a pool that hadn't been touched since the early 1960s. We knew we had to do a backyard remodel but first tackled the inside of our home, which was also a major undertaking. After having the experience of remodeling the interior of our home, we really didn't want to make any mistakes in hiring a contractor for the backyard. I had overseen all of the individual contractors for our interior but I knew I couldn't handle that in our backyard; I needed a contractor who would not treat me like an idiot or try to upsell me on things and would listen to my design esthetic. Dona was that person.
She was the first contractor we received a bid from and although we were initially a little sticker shocked we are so glad we chose Dona. I explained my desire to keep the backyard very vintage feeling. I wanted it to look like a time capsule from the early 1960s. we wanted an in-ground spa, so Dona came up with the idea to put the spa level to the ground as they would have in the 60s rather than raised as they are typically put in today. She was the only contractor to suggest this. In fact, when I mentioned the idea to another contractor, she told me it was a and quot;stupid ideaand quot; - again, glad we didn't go with that contractor! Dona also managed to save our vintage coping around the pool and even found a place to match the coping so the spa would look the same. Incredible. She was able to match our vintage tile around the water line as well and save our vintage rails to exit the deep end of the pool. But these are just small design things. Dona also really knew her construction/plumbing/electrician stuff.
Dona was the only contractor (of the four we got bid from) to bring her mason William with her to get a solid estimate. William was professional and nice and his crew did an incredible job on our concrete decking. They began by demo-ing the current concrete slab (which was huge - maybe 2000 sq ft). They then layed the re-bar and spacers down and set up the free form for the edges (I wanted curvy lines around the perimeter to mimic the lines of our kidney shaped pool. When they finished the forms, William worked with me to adjust the curves until I was happy with the shape and he even helped me mark out a freeform planter on each side of the pool. Then his crew poured the cement, including two new stairs (10ft in width) off our sliding glass door. After the concrete was dry, they acid washed the cement to give it a sandy texture and bring out some of the mica. Following that, they scored the cement in a 2ft square pattern. It's gorgeous.
The plumbers Dona hired have done excellent work. The in ground spa looks like it's always been there. The plumbers even worked with my husband to put the jets at varying heights so that they would hit in different spots on his back. They also, on Dona's suggestion/design, removed all of our old pool equipment from outside our bedroom window, which looked like an old whiskey still since it too was from the 1960s. When our new equipment arrived they installed everything on the other side of our house near our gas meter and hot water heater so all of our noisy, ugly equipment is in one place and quarantined between two gates. We can sleep now without hearing a peep out of our pool equipment.
I wasn't home the day the plasterers came but they did a spectacular job. I remember how rough our white plaster was when I was a kid and we had a pool put in and this couldn't be more different. The classic white plaster is incredibly smooth. They were in and out in a day too! We left for work with a chipped out pool from the demo and came home to a sparkling white brandnew pool that we couldn't wait to fill with water.
Throughout the whole process, Dona was present for every permit meeting with the city and even dealt with a city inspector that was less than professional. She handle him very well and our work proceeded nicely.
After the pool was finished, Dona designed a landscaping plan for the backyard and our front planter as well as threw in a sprinkler system for us in the back yard, which felt like a small piece of Christmas after all we were spending. We love being able to just turn a spigot and water the yard. She planned a tree trimming service to come trim our hedges and even dealt with our disgruntle neighbors through that mess. A couple of months later, everything is blooming and looking just wonderful.
One of the best things about Dona is that she is the whole package. She really does know her stuff and she's not at all cocky about it. I particularly love her attention to detail. Dona came up with a plan to add some frosted plexiglass to both our side gates so we could have some stylish privacy. She also designed a bench for our back yard to fit our mid-century vibe, then set us up with a carpenter and special ordered/designed the legs from her welder. When planting time came (which included 4 fruit trees!), Dona found a couple of huge, brightly colored pots at cost that fit our vintage style perfectly and pretty much just showed up with them. I was so happy that she really understood my style and relieved I didn't have to look for those myself.
Now that the job is over, Dona hasn't abandoned us. She checks in from time to time to see how everything is working. When I hurt my knee and couldn't weed for a long time, she sent out her landscaping crew to take care of it. Jesse, her main gardener, is an incredible wealth of gardening information and such an nice person over all. I really enjoy talking to him about gardening and how the plants are progressing. I wish I could have him weekly.

    The Lawn Man
The Lawnman showe up on time to give us the quote and had great suggestions for how we should handle wantin a dog run and some of the awkward areas in our back yard. He suggested DG and it was a perfect solution! The guys showed up to to do the job on time and were super friendly and hard workes! My yard was pure dirt that had just been through a construction job. It was uneven and hard as clay. My grass was in within 4 days and they even fixed our sprinklers. On the last day, they surprised us with a. Ice little palm plant in one of the little awkward spots. We can't wait to be able to afford to have them come back for the front yard!

    Gregory Davis & Associates
Greg's team came out a few days later and completely cleaned up our out of control current plants and put in beautiful new succulents and stones.  The work turned out to be better then we expected.  They even took some old planters that we had in our back parking lot and put plants in them for us.  They really went the extra mile!  It's really nice to have some green back there that we see everyday!

    Ismael Hernandez Gardening
Very unprofessional. Kept telling me he would come by to look at my yard to give me an estimate. Then the day would pass, I would never hear with him, I would have to call him to find out that he didn't go for one reason or another. This went on once a week for about a month. Then after that period, he said he was going to come by he actually called this time, and he said that he had the zip code wrong on my address so he couldn't go. So I supplied that. Then the following week he apparently goes and when I call him to find out how it went, he says that it's too far away. At this point two months have gone by and only at this point does he tell me that the location is too far away for him, when he could have told me that the moment I gave him the address. I would not recommend using this guy if he is this terribly unprofessional just giving an estimate. Luckily I found someone else, not through Angie's List, in short order thereafter, but I had to spend twice as much the first visit because my lawn had become so overgrown because of this clown, Hernandez.  This review will come as no surprise to him, as I indicated on the phone that I'd be providing a negative review on Angie's List.
