My dryer "worked" but didn't put out heat.

I called Larry Crowder and he was able to make an appointment for the next day. He arrived on time, and within a few minutes had diagnosed the problem as a blocked vent. He fixed it, and now my dryer works fine and I am very happy. This is the second repair he has made at my home, and I would definitely call him again.

One of the burners on our gas range stopped working.

I called and made an appointment. Mr. Crowder arrived on time and was very professional. He quickly identified the cause as a spider web inside one of the parts and showed it to me. Mr. Crowder fixed the stove burner within 15 minutes.

My KitchenAid refrigerator was leaking puddles of water from the back, so I called Mr. Crowder.

Mr. Crowder responded right away and set up an appointment to check out the situation. I called on a Tuesday and he came right out the next day. He was really nice, straightforward, and told me the appliance couldn't be fixed- basically he found all the coils on the back were rusted from all the leaking and the plastic cup back there that catches any leaks had a hole in it and that cup part can't be removed. He even showed, explained all the parts on the back of the fridge, and had me touch the parts to check. The rust indicated that this has been going on for a while and the heat evaporation coils in the back weren't doing their job if the water was overflowing the little catch cup. He was honest and said I needed a new refrigerator. I trusted him and he's been in the business for a long time. I paid the normal diagnosis fee for him coming out. Affordable, fast, reliable. Would use again for other appliance needs. Thanks! Now I feel like I won't be scammed by other companies that insist on repairs. I also wanted to advise other Angie's List users to STAY AWAY from Universal Appliance Repair in Panorama City, CA. I couldn't find them listed on Angie's List, so I couldn't review them officially through the site. Their customer service was horrible on the phone and setting up the appt online was an unresponsive nightmare. When I called them directly to confirm the appt time, they said oh we don't get the messages from our website. I said, you need to fix this because people think they can set up repair appointments online and they take time off from work to be at home so a repairman can come to the house. The lady said, sorry, there's nothing I can do. Real smug, and very, "not her problem" type of attitude. Horrible. So...Go with CROWDER and you will not regret it!

My AC unit was supposed to be looked at and serviced.

Nothing was done and the representative told me the wrong way to install a new filter. I finally realized to day that it was installed backwards and changed it. I am worried that my AC unit might fail because of this. I want my money back! If my AC unit goes down I am suing. It is 100 degrees.

Dryer repair

I am beyond happy with this company's services! First off, I was able to get a same day service call which may have been a completely serendipitous chance, but nonetheless delighted me since my dryer had been out of service for more than a week. Repairman showed up right on schedule and quickly diagnosed the problem. He also identified a secondary potential problem, demonstrating for me the part which was starting to show wear. The estimate for all the work was very reasonable, and the repair & preventative maintenance work was completed quickly. The final cost for the job was a little less than the original quote. I was also given recommendations for improving the vent hose used with my dryer. I am completely satisfied by today's service and will be referring my friends!

We had a leaking dishwasher.

Jim responded very quickly and assessed the problem, which was likely a pretty extensive repair. He didn't have the part readily available, and it was unclear whether the replacement of the single part would be worth the cost. Based on Jim's feedback, we actually ended up contacting the manufacturer and purchasing the extended warranty on the washer to cover the repair. This ended up being well worth it, and Jim's candor and feedback were very helpful!

Repair to 15 year old ice maker in refrigerator; however, Mr. Crowder was unable to repair it so it was necessary to have him install a new one. Also, he successfully repaired my 25 year old clothes dryer (which had stopped putting out heat)..

Mr. Crowder came to my home on two occasions. Both times he arrived right on time, seemed to know exactly what he was doing, and performed the work well. Subsequent to those repairs I called him on May 2, 2017 about a pluming problem, but unfortunately he said he doesn't do plumbing repairs. I definitely would hire him again for appliance repairs.

Needed to determine problem with ancient Thermador stovetop (so ancient that the manufacturer does not have record of the serial number!).

Larry was prompt and professional, as always, and determined the cause of the problem. He was able to discover the problem relatively quickly and proposed an economical solution for the problem given the parts that were available.

One of the burner elements on my stovetop range was malfunctioning. I needed the switch/controller replaced. It's an antique electric Thermador so old that the company doesn't even recognize the serial number.

As usual, Larry was professional and efficient. He assessed the problem and located the part in his truck. Being an expert with antiques, this didn't surprise me -- but I know that with many repair services accustomed to working with new appliances, they would have required a return trip in order to secure the part. I'm thrilled that, thanks to Angie's List, I have found Larry again after not needing any appliance work for several years.
