    Horizon Construction & Remodeling Inc
I interviewed three contractors and chose Mark Besnos and Horizon for an extensive interior remodel of my home master bedroom and bath, guest bathroom, kitchen. The project included removing a soffit ceiling in about half the house, installing a new support beam to eliminate a post, wainscoting in the living and dining room, hardwood flooring in the renovated areas (except the bathrooms), two new windows, and a new fireplace mantel. Mark wasnt the least expensive but based on his experience and our discussion I felt he would be hands on and would provide guidance during the course of the project. Mark has excellent taste. He was patient and worked with me and my cousin (who was consulting with me) very well. He was earnest in trying to accommodate his visits to my work schedule. A project of this magnitude is bound to encounter some challenges, and Mark was good at explaining them and presenting options, while giving me time to reflect. The various trades who worked on my home were top notch, and when there were some issues Mark immediately took steps to correct, fix, re-do, what needed to be done. An example is the flooring. There was a haze on the floor and Mark contacted the manufacturer and called in and paid (at his expense) a professional to inspect the floor and make recommendations. Mark and his team were always on top of things, communicating often via email (my preference) and also texts. The end result has exceeded my expectations. I am thrilled with my new, open concept, home. The kitchen is amazing, the fireplace is a focal point, and I absolutely love my master bathroom. We had some fun with the guest bathroom as well. Now I need artwork! Bottom line . . . if someone leaves me a house in his or her will and I have to remodel it, Im calling Mark.

Flooring came out fantastic but the shower doors are another story. I was told to purchase 60 inch shower doors and they were unable to install them because they were to big leaving me with out shower doors. Mike the owner was kind enough to take me to home depot to help return the doors but then simply left me in the dust after that. So at this very moment i have two bathrooms without shower doors and mike said sorry i cant help you all my installers are busy. kinda brutal to say the least =(

    Do It Right Remodeling
Good experience for a major remodel, got my dream kitchen. I will to give this contractor an A because the subs performed good quality work and Aviron (owner) was available and responsive. I would hire in a heartbeat the floor person (Brian), electrician (Patrick), and painter (Jose). I'd try to steal the finish carpenter (Greg)!! However, big, however, we had schedule issues that more than doubled the completion time. We had no penalty clause in our contract for missed dates and I wouldn't do that again. Best parts: well-defined contract with progress payments, limited number of change orders, always substantive changes no nickel and dime gauges, job site cleaned up every day and workers gone by 5pm, no weekend work. The contractor extended his professional discount in areas where it was of benefit to us (granite, tile). Do It Right's model of pricing their labor separately from material (flooring, appliances, etc.) which you choose and purchase, made sense to us because we could evaluate costs realistically. Down side: Schedule!! The work was originally planned for last year, start date was delayed from September to January at which time we pulled back until June 2016 because of our work schedule. Work started June 1 as promised, 60 day schedule, mostly completed by the end of September. Mid-October we are about to review our final punch list. I would not hesitate to hire Do It Right again and I'd manage the schedule more closely.

    Arthur's Flooring
Fast and excellent quality. I had Arthur's Flooring do my second floor with engineered hardwood (nail down). A crew of two tore up the carpet, moved the furniture around, and nailed down the new floors, and did baseboards in less than too days. One of my molding pieces had a manufacturer defect and they went the extra mile to cover up the defect to get the project done quickly. So impressed with the problem solving and artistry. The crew came on time and worked until 7pm on the first night. I admired their work ethic. The original consultation was also a pleasant experience. Ather (the owner), was honest and I hired him on the spot. We scheduled the install 2 weeks out, but then my wood came in early and Ather was gracious enough to bump up my install to the very next day (1 week before scheduled). That was awesome. Very happy customer.
The price was competitive to lumber liquidators and Arthur's crew were nice and went the extra mile.

    cab-i-net Design & Remodel
Hard working crews.  Satisfied with the job, but had to be sure to inspect to make a few bits of detail work was not ignored.  Main issue was a three month delay in the delivery of my flooring due to manufacturer shortage after I was told work could begin in a matter of weeks.  Came through in the end by squeezing in time to add baseboards to my job.

    OC Home Builders, Inc.
I could not be happier with my new kitchen!  Jim and America of OC Homebuilders make an awesome team to work with.  From the first meeting to final inspection they were attentive, reassuring and appreciative for the work.  Jim was great at keeping the job moving from the start.  America was like a Cheerleader with lots of complements on the design.
After the project was complete and the final check was written Jim and America still made themselves available for any questions I might have.  I am considering a bathroom remodel and when I am ready I know exactly who I will ask to do the project

    World of Flooring
Unfortunately, we did not use Mike from World of Flooring for our home, but that was not because we didn't think he was capable of the job.  We were actually planning on using Mike, but timing did not work out.  I was trying to schedule painters, hardwood guys, carpet guys, and tile guys before I had to move into our new home.  Trying to schedule all of this along with educating yourself to make the right choices is very difficult.  Mike's price was $3700 lower than one quote, but it was also $1000 higher than another quote. The weekend that I had to make my decision, Mike happened to be out of town celebrating his daughter's bday.  Since I had to make the decision by that weekend, I did not hear back from him on time.  Not knowing that Mike's glue down process was different from the lower quote I had gotten, I had to make a decision because of scheduling and I went with the lower price.  This was just one factor.  The other factor was that the company that gave us the lower quote on the hardwood was also going to do our carpet $800 cheaper than a separate carpet company so it was a $1800 savings for both hardwood and carpet that I just couldn't ignore.
Not knowing anything about hardwood installation Mike did spend alot of time educating us and answering all of our questions and concerns earlier on in the process.  He actually spent more time with us and was more patient with us than the company we went with.  We wanted an engineered wood that was used in a model home and he was the only person at the time that we knew to carry it.  When I was in the model home, I tried to scratch the wood with my keys and it seemed very difficult to scratch, but the sample that Mike gave me was much easier to scratch.  I told Mike this and he actually stopped by the model home to check it out, which I did not ask him to do so he really went out of his way for us.  He explained to me that I was scratching with the grain thus making it very difficult to see the scratches but if I scratched perpendicular to the grain than I would see the scratches easier.  This is just one example of how Mike wants the best for his customers.  Again, I wish timing would have worked out where I could have talked to Mike before making my decision but unfortunately, it didn't.  However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mike to any of my friends and family.

    Ley Drew, Inc.
Ley Drew's wood floor subcontractor Raffi Khardalian has been so amazingly good to us! We dealt with him for the better part of a year and ultimately my family decided that we would prefer to do a concrete acid treatment, which neither he nor Ley Drew does.
We had a furnace exhaust pipe leak that went undetected for a while due to being in the wall/cabinet and then slowly coming up through the floor. We have had 2 different contractors work on our floor previously and even the "floor guy" brought in to "fix" problems ultimately did some sloppy stuff & made weird mistakes that scratched the floor on install & made another flaw more noticable instead of less. I was SO EXCITED when Raffi came in with 35 years of experience and started to tell me all about the *other* damage/flaws in my floor that the insurance/supervisor hadn't caught. Another contractor would have laid floor that didn't quite match & had it stop before all the damage was addressed--in fact that exact thing had happened to us a year earlier! Raffi walked in expecting to work that day and put the brakes on. He drove all over trying to match our flooring. When we figured out that not only the color but also the width of the boards had been changed slightly he ordered at least 9 different large sample boards (3X3?) of woods he thought would coordinate with the original wood on the stairs. He brought them to our house on the weekend even though it was a long drive, and carried them around from area to area so we could compare them against the kitchen, stairs, etc. The other moisture problems we've had are a little mysterious, which seems common in Costa Mesa/living up against a field, and I felt like this was the only guy I would trust to put a new wood floor on top of that. We'd had multiple problems with the expensive moisture barrier glue despite there being no pipes or detectable moisture at a dry time of year in one of the areas clearly affected by moisture! Raffi said he has been using a 1/4 inch rubberized plastic moisture barrier for 10 years and not had a single floor he's installed this way go bad. It's consistant with what my friend's dad who has been in the flooring business for almost as long does, as opposed to the other fully licensed but not fully competant guys we've had through here.
So, Raffi: love, love, love. Ley Drew: the company used by our insurance (Mercury) for estimates so I feel like they are used to being really held to a high standards and forced to do it until done right. Our insurance agent says she enjoys prompt and easy communication with them. She also said at this exact moment they're a tiny bit understaffed and I'd believe it because I've found it takes a while to hear back from the office/supervisor and following up is necessary. Still, everyone has been great once I get them (not grim and hungover like the guy sent out from the 1st company we tried!!!) and they do content manipulation too which is nice. (That means packing your belongings out of your house so repairs can be done.)

    BILL'S CLASSIC HARDWOOD FLOORS
I have used other companies for hardwood needs and by far Bill and his team were awesome. They were very methodical with their work and explained everything they were going to do! I would recommend this company and will use them again for more hardwood flooring needs.
