    Marc Mason Landscape Services
Our project went very well and the final outcome was exactly how we had designed it. We worked with a landscape architect who drew the plans up and Marc precisely executed them. Marc is honest, knowledgeable and fair. It is obvious that he genuinely wants his clients to be satisfied. He takes great pride in his work and so does his crew. They are hard working, diligent and skilled craftsman. During the whole project Marc was in constant communication with us about what was going to happen next and where we were on the time-line. He will do what it takes to get the project done with your vision in mind. Even a year after the job was complete, we had an a minor irrigation issue with a stationary pot. He promptly came out to troubleshoot the problem and fixed it immediately. He clearly stands behind his work. We have since recommended Marc Mason Landscaping to several friends and family members. We would not hesitate to use Marc again.

    West Hills Masonry
We used West Hills Masonry to turn our front yard into a hardscape patio area. They were impressive upon their first meeting and in initial communications. They had overall great reviews online and presented us with their fancy folder of referrals. We were assured that they wanted us to be satisfied 100% and said theyd work with us on all the details as we go so we went with them. We were told from start to finish it would be on the job for no longer than 2 weeks. Somehow 2 weeks turned into 9+ months. Rain delays happened at the beginning, and we cant fault them for that. When our front patio cement was finally poured (2 months after the project was scheduled to start) it was incredibly sloped. We had been told there would be a slight slope for drainage, but this slope was over 12 inches across the front of our small lot. I had expressed concerns at how the slope looked the day before they poured, as was assured all those things will be taken care of. We were then coerced into paying thousands of dollars more to correct the slope issue. From the time the patio cement was finally done (4 months after the start date), it took an additional 5+ months for them to finish the details along the way. They would fix 1 problem, say the project was done and we had to keep reminding them of the other issues still left unfixed. The communication between us and the Project Manager was often not passed along to the crew working on-site and the Project Manager was rarely there, and there were many issues because of that lack of communication. At times, I felt like I had to babysit them. I also had to make countless changes to my personal schedule to accommodate them. The project manager would make promises of what work would be done when, and the day would pass with the work still undone. One day we had a scheduled meeting and he failed to show up or give notice that he was cancelling our appointment. In the initial contract, we agreed on a price for vinyl fencing and gates. There was a miscommunication between West Hills and the fencing companies and it ended up costing more. West Hills tried to charge us saying that we had changed our minds on the style of fencing. We have text proof that this is not the case as we had sent the pictures of the fence we wanted before starting. It got so bad that the 1st Project Manager was pulled from the job and a 2nd Project Manager was put on in his place. He seemed to know much better how to do things (since he was actually there working more than the 1st Project Manager. Part of our design included inlaid shells and we were told by the 1st Project Manager he could make it happen (part of his countless promises and under-deliveries). It did not turn out looking like we wanted it to at all. When we talked to the 2nd Project Manager after the fact, he said that there was no way they could have done what we wanted. We wish someone would have told us this earlier so we could have changed our designs. Another part of our design included stepping-stones with handprints in them. We waited around for hours to make the handprints (missing meetings, school, and naptimes). When they finally said it was time, the cement was so hard that the handprints are barely noticeable. The cement has nice looking saw-cut lines. Then someone must have dropped the saw or something, because there is a 2.5 inch ding. They filled it in to repair it, but it still stands out. Our initial design (that they had from before we decided to go with them) showed 5 drip lines along the house. These were forgotten until after they already poured the cement and were never installed. There is potential for a slab leak in the future as we do not know what happened to the line they were supposed to be installing. One of the drip lines installed was never connected properly and had to be hodgepodge put together to work. It doesnt match the other 3. Weve asked them to replace it, but they say that the way they have it is industry standard and will be fine. We just want to know why the other 3 are different, and why we cant have a cohesive overall look. Their website says, Our award-winning service is your guarantee! Let us prove it...we won't let you down. The only thing they have proved to us is that they are full of talk on their website, but unconcerned to actually make sure their customers needs are met. We attempted to meet with the owner to amicably discuss our issues and he said his Project Manager would take care of things. We emailed them to discuss our issues and concerns and come up with a way to meet in the middle. The owner was anything but helpful saying that the work has been completed to industry standards and we needed to pay them or they will put a lien on our home. I would highly recommend using a different company for your masonry needs.

    Torres Tree Service Inc
We have used Torres tree service three other times over the last few years and gave strong positive reviews. This year, not so much. - We emailed Torres for service three times over a few weeks requesting service, no response. - We then used Angies list to try for one last time - after a few days they called, apologized saying they experienced technical issues. - We requested a bid of work for today, they agreed, and we agreed on the time. They were a no show - no call, and no response to our email asking where they were. For the above reasons, we give them a rating of 'F' for Responsiveness and Punctuality. Because we have wasted so much time trying to obtain the service, we give them a 'D' for Professionalism and Overall (bounced up from a F because of interactions from years ago - if we were new clients it would prbably be an F). It is sad to see what was a good company now with so many other potential customers in the Angies List comments experiencing the same thing. And the solution is so simple - answer email, show up when you say you will, and do good work.

Spoke to Roland, and even left him some goodies. Called him after his appointment to say that I could not tell that anything that we had agreed on had been done except for him taking the goodies: no irrigation pipe fixed, no sprinklers replaced or water station connected and rested, but all the peaches from my tree gone. maybe that was just the birds? Have yet to hear back from him. Very disappointed after a seemingly great conversation and his promise that I would certainly get my $80. worth and be very satisfied. the only pics that I could show was the nothing was done except a small hole now visible in the area of where the broken pipe is, but not fixed as promised!! And wires left unattached to water station left hanging from the individual stations

    Botanicare Landscape Inc

The owner, Kevin Campbell, met me at the property to take measurements and to discuss removing the grass and re-landscaping.  He gave me a cost estimate for a portion of the lawn. After I received approval for a turf removal rebate, I asked for an estimate for   removing all of the lawn.  He never provided it and he didn't return my calls.

    Signature Landscape inc
During the first project (backyard), Moe (founder/owner) was initially out of the country, so we worked with Arshee on the plans and design. Arshee created initial drawings and plant selections for us which we iterated on several times before coming to a final plan ? which included ?marking up? the yard with the hardscape design and plant placements. Once we agreed to the plan and price (which was very competitive), the work proceeded promptly and completed on-schedule. The work crew (led by Chepe) was friendly and competent and kept the workspace clean and organized during the two week process. Arshee and Moe were on site regularly to make sure that we were happy with the work and to oversee any last minute changes (we wanted) to the plan.
Because of the great work SL did on the back yard, we had them back for a second project to redo our front patio area. Again this included removing all existing hardscape/landscape and replacing with new hardscape and drought tolerant plantings. With this second project, we worked with Moe for the hardscape selections (artistic pavers) and worked with Arshee on the overall design and the plantings. Once again Arshee did a great job with the plan and the crew did a great job with the work. And as with the first project, the price was fair and the work was completed right on schedule.
Overall we really enjoyed working with Signature Landscape. Our new hardscape/landscape is fantastic looking and was completed for a fair price in the timeframes we agreed to. Moe, Arshee, Chepe, and the rest of the crew are all very professional, accommodating, reliable, and friendly. All-in-all we couldn?t be more pleased with the work from Signature Landscape.

    Torres Tree Service Inc
Entire process went really well. Triggered by a neighbor asking for trimming due to a view issue, I noticed the trees had not been trimmed since we bought the house (2 years) nor by the previous owners for some time. So, big job. First, they always pick up the phone - live and not VMX - and super nice. David came to the house, did a walk around, provided a detailed estimate (he knows his trees). They sent the agreement by email - super easy to review, sign, and return, no mail needed. The crew came out, we did another walk around, and then they got to work. When done, the yard looked neat and nicely trimmed. I am now signed up for annual service.

They told me they needed to transplant the tree and I needed to break the pot it was it. I went out and bought a new pot with new dirt. They never showed up the next day to do the work, they would not answer the phone and the office would not pick up the phone either. I finally got the girl in the office today and she told me they could not save the tree, they couldn?t promise they could save it. Couldn?t they have told me before I went out and bought the new pot? I do not think they are reliable and I would not recommend them to anybody.

    Marc Mason Landscape Services
Our 27-year old back and side patios buckled and cracked from invasive tree roots.  Marc visited the site, listened to our wishes for our outdoor area, then recommended the next step.  We could not commit to construction for 2 months because of previous plans and he was fine with that schedule.  Meanwhile, we had plans drawn for front and back renovation, Marc gave us cost estimates and we scheduled the project which would take one month to complete.  The project was completed on time.
From Day 1, we had great communication -- Marc listened to our needs, answered any questions and had detailed explanations of his work.  This man is ?hands on,? knows the business and his plants!  His crews are conscientious and industrious -- a pleasure to have around.
This is our first experience with Angie?s List -- and Marc Mason is a gem.  :)
