    RC&G Handyman Services
Project was finished very efficiently in about 3 hours and old material hauled away. Arrived on time and finished on time. Excellent job. he reduced his price from the original estimate since he did not need as many materials as he thought. He took the materials back to where he purchased them and saved me about $50.

    G & G Deck and Fence
Clearly a disaster to work with.  The contract was to remove the large two story deck and reconstruct it again on the same footprint.  I insisted the builder be there for the tear down so there wouldn't be any question about the desired outcome.  They continually  wanted to change the design.  I will go to another forum with photos and specifics about the poor workmanship.  The final blow come when they drilled into the brick patio to prepare for the steps.  The original deck did not encroach onto the brick,  and the were planning on going out another 18 inches!  The builder was planning on one 8 1/4" step rather than two 5 1/5" steps as the contract clearly showed!
The owner Gary finally arrived and after much discussion said -  "If we correct our mistake we will be out of business!"  I had compromised on many of there "changes" due to the lack of the builder not being able to think ahead.  I was not able to compromise on the deck being enlarged and having only one step.
I had paid them for 40% of the contract plus a side job of some dry rot repair on a water heater shed.  They did not finish the shed as they cut the sheeting wrong twice and I believe were afraid to tell the boss they needed more material.
There was much blame among themselves for there mistakes.  The lead carpenter (Travis) blamed his helper for placing new piers on the wrong side of the string.
I actually thought the builder Travis could build fairly well but our deck was somewhat involved and he could not THINK.  He didn't have a plan for the second story or how to build around our oak tree.
I put most of the blame on the owners of the company.  They took on a project that was WAY out of their league.  They failed to communicate with their workers the contract or desired outcome.  They did not inspect the job as it progressed but we're busy building fences in Napa.  They were trying to be a deck company with slick advertising and employing a real builder to do the work for them.  They should stick to fences.  They cannot build decks.   When they make a mistake they expect the owner to pay for it.
They left me with a 1/3 finished deck and the building errors in basic construction were were of great interest to the builders that followed them for a bid on finishing the project.  Not one builder (5 came to look) thought they could use the upper deck structure in its current ugly and impractical state.
I do not know about their fences, but they are DEFINITELY NOT A DECK BUILDING COMPANY !!!

    Walt's Quality Painting
P.E.R.F.E.C.T!!!   it was a big project: 3 bedrooms, two baths, 6 closets, living room and kitchen/dinette with vaulted ceilings.  Plus 4 large walls of old wallpaper to deal with.   From quote to finish, Walt is professional, punctual, and thorough.  We appreciate very much his expertise and skill.  He turned a 50 year old house into a sparkling masterpiece ready for move-in.   The hardwood floors through out were protected.  All teeny blemishes and wall damage were repaired.   His time estimate to completion (even thru 90+ degree days) was spot on.
We would highly recommend Walt and he'll be who we'll call for any painting projects in the  future.  It's great too find a craftsman

    A and J Fencing
They were in very high demand due to all the storm damage in the area so it took about five weeks before they could get around to my job.  It was definitely worth the wait.  They arrived promptly and did the whole fence tear down and rebuild in only one day.  The gate was very sturdy and the fence was well made.  The crew chief checked in with me several times to explain what was happening and make sure I was happy with the construction.  They cleaned up completely and left nothing behind except a great fence.

We had a landscaping plan done on paper a few years ago.  At our first meeting with Jean Fogg, we reviewed this plan as a basis for the redo of our front yard.   He spent a lot of time with us discussing the work we were requesting, walking the site, and making suggestions on improvements to the plan.  No other contractor that we contacted for bids did this.  He was prompt in getting back to us with his all exclusive bid.  While he was not the lowest bid, it was obvious we were getting more value from Jean's bid. The materials and plants were topnotch.  Our expectation of better quality work and follow up after the job was done were fully met.

The job went smooth and any minor problems were taken care of promptly and to our satisfaction.  For a job of this size, it is expected that there will be some unexpected problems and maybe needed changes.  To this end, Jean and his crew were great.  They worked safely and they cleaned up the work area at the end of each workday.  Jean made frequent visits to supervise their progress.

Now  3 months after completion, our plants look great (we lost none of the plants planted by Jean and his crew).   We installed a fairly sophisticated irrigation system with a weather station controller (recommended by Jean).  Jean has returned numerous times to make sure the system is performing to spec.

We highly recommend Jean Fogg Landscaping. We have received many compliments on our front yard.

    Woodiwiss Painting
Woodiwiss Painting deserves every bit of their straight A ratings.  They did a beautiful job on my house and made the project painless for me.  Joe took the time to advise me about different types of paint and helped me save money by picking the right ones.  The crew was polite, careful, tidy, and kept me informed about their progress.  When they couldn't work one day due to rain, they came on Saturday to make up the time.  Due to their excellent ratings, Woodiwiss Painting is in high demand.  You might have to wait a bit until they can fit your job into their schedule but they are well worth waiting for.

    Craig Fencing
Craig Fencing was well worth the wait.  Russ gave us a good quote.  And his schedule worked well with ours and the fence is beautiful.  Lots of cement in those post holes unlike a contractor we used for the other side of the yard a few years ago.  This was a good-neighbor fence and our neighbors contracted for gate replacements too.  I was a bit envious of those incredible gates!
Russ and his crew were punctual, organized, clean and quick. Nearly 100 ft of fencing and 2 very large gates done in about 2 1/2 days.  And talk about clean-up, not a spec of sawdust anywhere and  they even cleaned up the debris left over from landscapers that had pulled out the overgrown ivy the week before.
My DYI husband was pleased enough to contract another job.  Craig Fencing is on my short list for a patio cover later next year.
Great Job, great workmanship...  wonderful to find a contractor like back in the old days, pride in a job well done and reasonably priced.
    thank you Craig Fencing

    Three N Painting
I filled out an info form online, after normal business hours, and Tim called me the very next day. I called him back early afternoon, and he said he could swing by the evening after he finished up a job to do the estimate and he arrived right as expected. Another painter (Certa Pro) never even responded to my online inquiry so I was impressed with how responsive Tim was. We liked him right off the bat since he seemed really focused on the important stuff to us (ie long lasting paint job, repairing dry rot, and fixing problem areas). His quote came in reasonable and fair. After reviewing some others we got a follow up call from him, and we called him back to discuss some details and even though I called him back on a Saturday, he answered-again, very responsive! He said he'd call me during the week to schedule the work, and then he ended up calling Sunday night saying they could start Monday! They ended up starting Monday morning and prepped the house (cleaning, etc) and did the majority of the work Tuesday, finishing up Tues afternoon. I thought this was awesome since we gave the ok on Saturday and the job was done immediately. I don't know if it normally works out this quickly to get booked but I was very happy. He will do any paint or paint color you want but prefers to use Kelly Moore for best quality and prefers to use their standard exterior colors as these are your best bet for longevity of color. We went with these choices. All the painters work for Tim so he doesn't have anyone at your house that he's picked up at Home Depot, etc. Obviously he's licensed and insured. Another thing I liked is that he himself goes to all the jobs and is there the whole time. All the painters were nice, friendly guys who took care with moving our stuff, worked around some of our beloved plants, and left our yard cleaner than when they arrived. The work they did was fast and really great quality. We really feel like our house looks fantastic, and all the rot issues and paint bubbling off/peeling issues have been resolved. He even did a great job for us on two real eye sores on our house (a front door we attempted to paint ourselves and royally screwed up that he fixed, and a pool shed that was in such bad shape that the whole thing probably needs to b replaced but now it looks great so we'll keep it for as long as we can). We put down a deposit ($400) and then paid the balance when the job was complete. It turned out we did the math wrong on the balance and we paid too much (we forgot to subtract the deposit but thought it balanced out with all the dry rot work done). We didn't realize it because we thought the end price was still fair given everything that was done. Tim called me that evening and let me know he would rip up our deposit check because we had over paid. We thought his honesty in this situation was especially cool since he could've charged us more and we wouldn't have known the difference. You won't be disappointed with Tim and Three N!
