    Roy Mathis Moving
My wife and I recently purchased our first home and were looking for movers. I came across Roy Mathis Moving on Angie's List and couldn't be happier with the results. The movers were punctual, professional, and were very fair with the price and time quoted to me. I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

    Golden Eagle Moving Services
What a waste of time. I called and got quotes on the phone for having movers to ONLY load in, not drive or load out. I was clear about this on the phone that I only needed load in services. Then I called back to schedule the work and they scheduled it, but wanted to send Chris out for a quote. He came out and gave us a quote, but only for driving the trucks for us. Because we have a questionable move in date, this is not possible for us. The first person I spoke to should've have made this crystal clear to me, not given me the runaround with multiple phone calls, a visit out to our house, to then tell us they wouldn't do the move for us unless they were driving. I emailed Chris to say that they might want to inform their front office of their policies, since they're giving out misinformation and also wanted confirmation that they cancelled our reservation. I have heard nothing since - not even a confirmation that our reservation was cancelled. We have enough stress with moving, having a company give you the runaround is frustrating.

    Prodigy Moving & Storage
We could not have asked for anything more from Prodigy. We moved from one large house to another, and Prodigy made our experience easy. They packed everything on the truck themselves without our help and even disassembled pieces such as bedframes and mounted televisions. Then they unloaded everything into our new home in exactly the places we wanted, so that entire rooms were already completely set up by the time they left. They even hooked up our washer and dryer! All we had to do was unpack! If your are thinking of moving yourself with a rental truck, please don't bother! Prodigy is so fairly priced and efficient that there is no reason to do it yourself.

    NorthStar Moving Co
This is the second time that I have used Northstar Moving during the last year to move all my household goods.  And once again they were A-Plus in every category.  Pre-move information was clear and helpful.  On moving day they arrived on time with a crew that worked quickly and efficiently.  Crew members were cheerful and polite.  Everyone totally professional.  The crew packed all my kitchen items plus the fragile contents of a large china cabinet.  Not a single item was broken or damaged in either move. I have moved twice in the past using a major interstate mover and Northstar did a much better job.  I don't plan to move again anytime soon, but if I do, there's no question about it -- I'll go back to Northstar!

    Prodigy Moving & Storage
Scheduling was easy and there were no extra costs associated with weekend moving or the proximity to the start/end of the month (other moving services charged more for dates closer to the start of the month). The guys came and packed up our 1500 sq ft house in no time, were professional, and polite. Anything that wasn't adequately wrapped or protected was then packed by them. We had packed most of the small items and we only had to purchase supplies for packaging for larger items like our piano, beds, TVs, etc. I couldn't believe how quickly they were done. We had them load into the garage of our new home 35 miles away with the exception of the piano & bed (we were doing construction on the new home and only had them move in the things that were too heavy otherwise). I think the total time it took was about 5-6 hours with driving. We paid at least $300 less than we had expected to pay since they were so fast. As of today, after we've finally unpacked everything, we can confirm that nothing was broken or damaged in the move. Amazing!

NorthStar Moving Company-State to State Moves Only
In the deal, company failed to disclose the minimum threshold they charge to use the deal. When I called them, they said they charge me a  minimum of $3,000, which was too high. I would urge Angie List to press their contractors to reveal other hidden charges in the deal. Please refund since I can't use them. Thanks. RG

    STS Movers
A few weeks before the move, Don came out to my place in Claremont to meet me and provide an estimate. From the start, he was professional, accommodating, good-natured, caring and clearly very experienced. He gave me a very fair flat rate, and I really appreciated the ease of that approach as opposed to bargaining over numbers of boxes and pieces of furniture.  He promised 3 movers on the day of the move and provided 4. He promised to be there at 9 on moving day and he was there early (after a call to let me know he was on his way) to get things started. He and his movers were constantly checking in with me to make sure everything was going the way I wanted it to go. His movers were also professional, flexible, experienced, and good- natured despite having to drive up Highway 5 in terrible Thanksgiving holiday traffic. They were scheduled to unload the next morning at 8, and they were at my door at 7:50, ready to begin. All of my belongings arrived in perfect shape.
Don provided a lot more than he promised without even mentioning it. For example, although we agreed that I'd pack everything except the kitchen, they ended up doing a lot more packing than we bargained for in that flat rate, yet Don didn't say a word about it. Somehow they made the move stress-free and even fun.
I've never written any kind of on-line review before, but I decided to write this one because online reviews were so helpful to me in weeding out questionable movers and finding and trusting STS. I will definitely hire them again for my next move.

Note re home build year: I'm not sure when the condo was built and it's not relevant to this review.

    NorthStar Moving Co
Great job all around.  We were provided a 2-hour window in which the movers would arrive, and they arrived 30 minutes into the window.  Loading the contents of our two-story 3BR house took about two hours and fifteen minutes.  Unloading took about three hours.  They were professional, efficient, and friendly, and they didn't damage our stuff.  They put things in the right rooms, and once we had everything where we had asked them to put it, they asked if we wanted anything shifted to a different location within the house.  They provided warderobe boxes -- the only quibble is that we weren't in the room to direct which box of clothes went where, so our clothes are all disorganized at this point, but this is a minor point.  The only supplies they charged us for were the roll of shrink wrap used to protect our furniture and rolls of packing tape.

    NorthStar Moving Co
ORIGINAL REVIEW, but see update below:

I used Northstar and had some problems, so I wouldn?t use them again.  First the good news:  The movers were very careful with the furniture, and fewer things got damaged than usual.  (You always lose something in a move, but this was way better than most.)   The movers were also really nice and spent time moving the furniture and boxes just where my wife wanted them.  On the downside, though, there were several big problems: (1) Northstar sent a truck that was too small, so they couldn?t get all of my things on the truck!  And the problem wasn?t that I had a lot of stuff: My house was only 850 square feet, plus all the junk from a one-car garage, so that?s a move that should fit onto a moving truck.  When they said they were leaving some of my things behind, I asked whether they?d come back to get them, but they said they?d have to charge me hourly plus double drive time.  It seemed to me that they should have done it at their expense.  After I complained to the office later on, they offered me $50 as compensation for the time me and my friends spent moving the rest of my stuff, and I bargained them up to $115 (one hour?s move time).  But until I complained, they didn?t offer anything.  (2) Even though we?d carefully packed things into standard sized moving boxes so that they could be moved in piles, the crew only brought one dolly.  That meant that two of the three movers were carrying only one or two boxes by hand per trip instead of a full load, and that slowed down the move.  (3) Relatedly, the move took longer than any other move I?ve done.  When I moved into my old house with exactly the same amount of stuff, it took much less time than the move I did recently with Northstar.  (4) I hired Northstar because they told me all the steps they?d take to protect hardwood floors, like putting down runners and Masonite, but in the end, they didn?t use any of those things.  The floors didn?t get damaged, because the guys just carried everything by hand, but that might have slowed down the move too.

UPDATE: After my review went up, I got a personal apology from the CEO of NorthStar.  It doesn't turn back time and fix everything but he clearly cares a whole lot about his customers, and that should matter to anyone picking a moving company.  He seems like the kind of guy who will help you out if anything goes wrong.

    Wheaton World Wide Moving
I just finished writing a glowing review for Wheaton's local agent who arranged the move, (Breda Moving) but wanted to also write a review on Wheaton Van Lines itself, and especially George, their fantastic driver.
We moved our belongings after having stored them in our Oak Park house for six months.  I wasn't able to be there for the walk through and estimate and delegated to a friend.  Breda was understanding and gave me a "not to exceed" estimate but included a little extra weight "just in case", so when I had to call, several times, and say I just remember something to add (the ladder, kayak paddles, duffle with scuba gear), this wasn't a problem.  Even with that, the shipment weighed about 1,000 pounds under the estimate, so everyone was happy!
Breda and Wheaton were also very willing to arrange the move on short notice and with a smaller delivery window than any other mover I spoke with, critical because there was only a fourteen day window between when I could get out to supervise the move and when we had to take delivery before we went out of town.  As it turned out, the shipment was loaded on the 2nd and delivered on the 8th!
Both Breda's crew, who did the packing of fragile items and loading, and the People Movers, here in California, who did the unloading and set up, were professional and extremely pleasant.  And I don't know where to even begin with my praise of their driver, George, who is one of the nicest guys I ever dealt with.  Wheaton, take note - he is a real asset to your company.
