Peter did an excellent job! He is a super nice guy and worked hard to fit us into his busy schedule. Despite having his truck break down and the job taking a few days longer than planned, he was able to complete the work and communicated well with us throughout.

    Paramount Pavers & Construction

We found Isaac and Rudy to be personable and very knowledgeable and professional in their approach to the design and implementation of our driveway and entry-way/courtyard. During the construction process, they were readily available for consultation and were very accommodating to our needs. The masonry crew were  friendly and very skilled. They were available for questions and explained each step of the process to us. We were exceptionally pleased with the result of their efforts and would absolutely recommend them .  During the installation process, they found a corrupted pipe from a previous job many years ago by another company. Isaac and Rudy replaced this pipe without charge to us.

    CALIFORNIA CUSTOM LANDSCAPE
Very clear and thorough initial consultation.  My back yard get overgrown so quickly that I can't keep up with it.  It is becoming an annual event to have a team from California Custom Landscape come out and spend a winter day getting it back into shape.  They have also done more specialized jobs involving tree removal and replanting, putting in a drip irrigation system and brickwork.
The only problem that I ever had was that some wire vent covers weren't initially installed properly over the vent holes in the brick work.  When I pointed it out, they came back later to install them.

    Master Cleaning Maintenance
All the workers were friendly.  The carpet was well-cleaned. I asked to have the drawers lined and Sergio was flexible about adding this, which was a big job. I paid a lot extra for it, which I expected to do. I asked if they wanted to come back another day for that but he told me they would be able to do it in one day. It was clear the ladies did not have much experience with this task and it took me 4 trips to home depot because of the (expensive) mistakes made in the cutting and measuring the drawer liners. In many cases, they just lay two strips side by side and didn't bother taping them underneath, though I suggested that. There were always five or six ladies hanging out  talking mostly in the kitchen all the time and I had to check the work constantly around the house with regard to all above eye level cleaning. I kept finding and pointing out to owner the missed dust on top of all the woodwork, in closets, shelves, behind doors, etc...In spite of the owner being there, I had to supervise closely the quality of the job myself and I kept finding missed spots, pointing them out, and expressing that I was paying nearly $1,000, so wanted it done thoroughly as we have a 4 year old, and would be moving in very soon after the clean.
The house was dusty, but empty. They finished late and left, but I quickly discovered many areas of dust behind doors on higher ledges, etc, that I had pointed out. Very hit or miss quality, wouldn't use this cleaning service again or recommend. I was annoyed that Angie's list had them so highly ranked.  Made me suspicious of the ranking system.

    KRAMER'S MASONRY
S ummary comments - Use if you are desperate for fast service OR willing to manage on behalf of the owner....1) 25% cost over-run, 2)  poorly equipped crew 3) but overall did very good work.

    Pros:
    1) Steve the owner was very responsive, polite, and knowledgeable---we needed the job started ASAP, and he had a
crew of two within two days.
    2) very polite and skilled labor

    Cons:
    1) Poorly equipped-----they were using small grinders when you could rent larger ones for only $30/day @ home depot.  Tools broke on the job, blades went dull, and the 2-man crew was far less productive as a result.  They also lacked 6-foot long' levels on day 1 of the job, which is disappointing given the whole purpose of the job was to level the floor.
    2) Poorly managed---the crew lacked supervision; owners had to ask us what the crew needed.
    3) Inadequate safety - no masks or gloves for work that generated tons of dust, therefore I provided dusk masks.
    4) Poor estimate - I specifically told Steve that he would need our EXPLICIT approval for any scope changes or cost overruns.  Steve later advised us that it we had ALREADY exceeded his estimate---and incurred a $400 overcharge and the rest of the work would be at least another $400, so I decided to STOP all the work.

    KRAMER'S MASONRY
From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with Steve Kramer, his brother Terry, and the five member crew. I had previously worked with Steve around 8 years ago, when he was the primary subcontractor for our landscaper.   I was so impressed with his design talent, professionalism, delivery, and quality of his work, that I thought of him when I needed some work done on one of my rental units.

Steve was sensitive to the fact that this was a rental unit in a low-income neighborhood.  He made lots of good suggestions, and worked with my budget.

I met with Steve and Terry at the job site on Friday morning.  Steve had lots of good ideas, but budget was a factor for me. He was willing to help me think through the priorities and narrow down the project. We agreed on the scope of the project and the price ($1200) to grade the entire yard and side yards (it's a corner house). I then asked him to lay two lines of irrigation pipe with a stub on the end, so in the future I could add some irrigation.  We agreed on $300.  Terry and his crew began work on Friday afternoon, they returned on Monday to finish the job -- it looked great.

Of course when you do one thing, then something else looks bad.  In this case, there were two overgrown pine trees that dwarfed the lovely craftsman style home.  Terry offered to trim them for $900.  I had gotten a bid the day before for $1900.  How could I refuse?  I dug deep into my pockets and came up with the money to complete the yard and make it look nice.  They were back on the job on Tuesday and finished that day -- the trees look great!  Plus, they took care of another tree that wasn't so much overgrown, but  UGLY!  They trimmed and balanced it out as well.  Looks much better and it's not hanging over the sidewalk now.

I will definitely use Kramer's Masonry again.  These are the type of contractors Angie's list members love.  Steve has a great crew, the proper equipment, and a location you can visit to see his materials and samples of his work.  I highly recommend this company for a variety of landscaping work. I can't believe only one other Angie's list members have used him before, and that was only recently.

Angie's list has been my lifesaver as a recent landlord now owning four units.  I only use Angie's list referrals now because I've been burned when I don't.  Let's keep up the good work of supporting quality contractors and weeding out the ones that don't deliver what they promised.

    FALKON CONCRETE-MASONRY-PAVERS
AWESOME!  They were at our home Saturday morning 30 minutes EARLY and ready to start work!  Yes...I said EARLY.  How many contractors do you know that actually show up for a job early??   They immedately set up their work areas, laid out tarps in the street to contain the construction debris and got busy working.  There were 4 members on the team.  All were professional, polite and are you ready for this...they actually asked questions to make sure they were doing what we wanted them to do...they didn't assume anything.

The job was completed 1/2 day early and it was perfect.

FALKON has set a new standard for residential contractors to aspire to.  Will definately use them again!!

    FALKON CONCRETE-MASONRY-PAVERS

I called four people and they are the only ones that called me back. After they gave me the estimate I asked them to send me an estimate without permitting by the city and he never did. They were very prompt coming over. He seemed to know what he was doing. He promised the estimate within 48 hours and it took over a week. The estimate was quite high. I haven't had much luck because I haven't been able to get anyone to call me back. I think I would consider using them. He was very slow getting the original estimate and I haven't ever received the second estimate.
