Lil John's Rooter & Plumbing LLC
Unknown water source when I searched on AngiesList - John himself called me before I even had a chance to review their online rating - Crazy quick, and for sure what you want and need when calling a plumber. Offered to come for a free estimate - we made an non emergency appt. for the next morning at 8:00. LA Traffic caused them to be delayed a little (5-10 minutes), they looked at my small dig site, and did some more digging to confirm the problem and solution - gave me an estimate (to solve the right now problem) - and followed up on my suggesting a fix with a tiny bit of extra work and an estimate for 1 or both. Work took fairly long (because of pvc drying time?) - but at the end of the day everything looks good, leak is gone - sprinkler pressure is down to a workable level and one that pvc CAN withstand. Total price was more than I wanted to spend - but overall a water leak at 200PSI for who knows how much longer would be a much bigger problem. Leonard was very professional and did a great job. I would recommend this family owned business to anyone who has plumbing needs in the SFV/Simi areas of Los Angeles Before and after pics attached

    Chatsworth Home Improvements & Repairs
We enthusiastically recommend the services of Randy Bemis, proprietor of Chatsworth Home Improvements and Repairs! Not only is he honest and ethical, Randy is exceptionally skillful in a very broad range of services. For over a decade weve been delighted with the repairs and improvements Mr. Bemis has accomplished throughout our house and yard. Typically, we called upon Randy to identify the problematic issue, whether it was for leaky irrigation and valves or the pipes in our two story house, and with cheerful determination Randy invariably got to the bottom of it. Over the years, we have used Randys services without hesitation for everything from kitchen faucets and garbage disposals to re-plastering our ceiling. Most recently, Randy completed a wonderful carpentry project on the second floor of our property, saving us thousands of dollars we thought wed have to spend on a replacement of a large stained glass window by skillfully repositioning it and adding a beautiful wood molding to frame and secure it! The term handyman just doesnt do him justice; although Randy can easily accomplish routine repairs and installations, his aesthetic vision and abilities just as easily lend themselves available to create, construct, or adapt. Its clear he loves what he does, which is another reason it has always been a pleasure to welcome friendly and trustworthy Randy Bemis into our home. (Just dont let him know how much more others - who are much less gifted - are charging!)

    Automatic Sprinkler Controls Inc
Ron the supervisor/technician, showed up on time and was very professional. He inspected our sprinkler system and made the necessary repairs promptly and efficiently. He also made some corrections to work that had not been done correctly by other sprinkler repair companies (unfortunately other companies we've used from Angie's list). We are happy to give a great referral for Ron and Automatic Sprinkler Controls, Inc. They will be our sprinkler repair/maintenance company.

There service call is 100.00 that can be applied to repair. I was told at time of first contact that all the parts are on the truck and they will take care of it. Within 5 mins after the technician arrival, I asked for a ballpark cost to replace 2 valves, labor only and was told around 180.00. I offered 20 dollars for the trouble and was denied. It turned out they didn't have the parts and would have to come back anyway.  I spoke with Steve and said that the price was out of my range and could we work something out that would be fair . Denied. I mentioned to him that they didn't have the parts on the truck and he told me that I didn't tell him that I had 1" In the ground valves. I told him I did but I guess in Steve's world. The Customer is never right. I had no contract with them and could of just thrown them out but I said I would pay the 100.00. The technician was there for about 15mins more writing up a problem report and then I paid. I get a call from Steve the next day offering to replace two valves for a mere 480.00. These are not 15.00 valves but I have purchased them from the irrigation supply and it was around 50.00 about a year ago. I said that the report said it only needed one valve and the other was leaking, Probably a diaphram. I asked that just the diaphram be replaced and was denied. They would only replace the 2 valves. He said he couldn't guarantee just a diaphram repair and I said that was ok and again denied.  I chalk it up to another learning experience

My last LADWP bill had shockingly high water charges. I knew I had not used more water than the previous two months, so I wondered where all that water had gone. A few days later, I cut down the tall grass around the valves for my sprinkler controls, and one of them had wet soil around it. I found that the soil was always wet even when I kept the system turned off.
So I hired a general contractor I know to fix the underground leak. His prices were reasonable, but he tried twice and it was still leaking.
Then I consulted Angie's List and called Automatic Sprinkler Controls. They sent a man out on Thursday, April 10. He fixed the head on the corner of my lawn but said he would have to come later with more parts and fix the valve. He came on Thursday, April 17 to fix it. He said if it did not work, he needed another part and would come again.
That weekend, sadly, unbeknownst to me, he had an accident and went to the hospital.
I had the water turned off to the sprinkler system to let glue dry. Then I turned it on Saturday morning to water the garden and discovered the leak was still there. Then I went out. While I was gone my kitchen, front hallway, and dining room flooded because of something that general contractor had done to the sprinkler system in the big planter box near my kitchen window. He will not do any more work on my sprinkler system. I turned the water to  the sprinklers back off and called Automatic Sprinkler Controls Monday morning, April 21. This time Martin, the boss, came out with another man and fixed the pipe in the planter box. They sent someone back on Thursday, April 25 and replaced the siphon on the valve, which was causing the leak.
I am thankful for their work and happy with the outcome. I intend to use Automatic Sprinkler Controls again.

    Sculptured Gardens Alive
The whole process with Sculptured Gardens went great.  We worked with them on several projects over the course of three months to completely re-work our backyard. Dan, the owner, was outstanding to work with.   He listened to what we wanted and came up with excellent ideas and solutions.  He has a really good sense of aesthetics and as a result our backyard now looks fabulous.   The work crew was very punctual and cleaned up at the end of every day.  All work was completed on schedule. We look forward to working with them again next year on our front yard.
Originally, we contacted Sculptured Gardens to put in a new raised slumpstone planter around a tree, fix some irrigation issues, and place sod in some dead areas of the lawn. We also wanted them to look into a drainage issue,  which we had several other contractors look at. In heavy rain, the backyard would not drain well and would flood into the garage. Dan determined that the one drainage pipe in the backyard was now going uphill in one spot and was just ending underground.  He proposed putting in two new drainage pipes that went all the way to the street, along with trenching out some concrete near the garage and putting in another drainage trench to re-route the water from there.  We liked this approach more than ones proposed by other contractors, and went forward with the drainage work along with the landscaping.  This was done in early January.  The big test was a major rain storm that came through the end of February.  The new system worked great.  There was no garage flooding and no puddling anywhere in the backyard.
We were very happy with the way the new lawn looked and how well the drainage worked, so we contracted with them to come back in March and really spruce up the backyard.  They placed many new planting beds in the backyard and filled them up with a wide variety of plants.  The combination of plants is great, and makes our backyard look gorgeous.

    Stumper Landscaping
He said that for him to just repair my sprinklers was too small of a job for him. He rejected the work that I was willing to pay him for. He kept trying to get me to replace the whole system, instead he refused to do what I asked.

    D C Gardening Service
He is NOT providing a "tune-up" but instead an inspection and a written estimate for any needed repairs. I explained to him I didn't expect major repairs or even any digging but I did expect him to "tune up" i.e.adjust the system and do minor repairs, which he declined to do beyond "unclogging 1 or 2 heads for the entire yard." I told him I could get 10 companies to come out for free and provide me with an estimate and asked "how is this a $120 value? (Yes it was "marked down to $60.) He had no real answer for this. He agreed that he would notify Angie's list that I should get a refund. I will say he was always polite on the telephone.

These 2 hard working guys checked each sprinkler head making sure the plants, lawn were being watered and not the pavement, changed a leaky pipe, installed a water pressure regulator, repaired a pipe that had gotten loose because of the roots of the plant, tightened up a leaky pipe and checked the timer to make sure each station was working. They were pleasant and professional, around 4 l/2 hours.

The worker, his name was Elmer, had an attitude.  He did not have information correct as to payment. It says credit card but he wanted a check.  I was quoted $75 for the first half hour but he said "oh no, it is $85".  I found this most uncomfortable and I left word at the office.  Martin, the proprietor, called me back and was very soothing and stood up for his employee, Elmer. He was very professional.  This is a good company, however their employee, Elmer.
