    BAY RESTORATORS
Water removal, mold remediation, drying and demo work to clean up for re-construction was done well. The problems started in the construction phase of work. Everardo and his family need to stop trying to take advantage of people and their insurance companies. I would trust them to mitigate water damage, but NOT for any follow-up construction or repair. They work WITHOUT a written contract, try to get the insurance payment made directly to them, do unlicensed work without permits, bill for work never ordered or duplicate work. If you don't believe me, just be sure you have a real written contract/work order that is clear about job to be performed. And that law says no more than 10% or $1000 down to start work! And see if their contractors license is valid for Bay Restorators Corp. (not the DBA) [*** Link removed ***]

    SOD Builders
As we were thinking of doing a large-scale remodeling project at our house that included the remodeling of our kitchen, Laundry and 2 bedrooms in our home and after we met and spoke to many contractors for that job, we finally decided to hire SOD builders for that job. SOD builders had many years of expertise in their portfolio and they did had the ability to design and implemented our needs into a truly gorgeous kitchen. From the marble countertop as the center piece in the kitchen all the way to the backsplash in the breakfast bar this new kitchen feels ours and it became the main focus room at the house. The bedrooms and the laundry room was also a great success in the design and implementation and we teared them all the way down to the studs and rebuild them all over again while making several changes that will improve the functionality of them. SOD builders did create several design concepts and shared with us many details to make sure everything will be exactly what we wanted and needed. Avi was positive, expert, and easy person to work and talk with. We could not be happier in our new kitchen, laundry room, bedrooms and breakfast bar.

    Everlast Construction

I wanted an estimate to enclose an 8x11 front porch. I would do all the demolition (remove all brick and expose existing foundation, remove any stucco where needed for attachment)  and I would do (or arrange for) the finish work (exterior lathe and stucco, all insulation and interior finish, and roofing). He did show up quickly after my submission request and showed up on time so I can't ding for that. I just wanted someone who could do the Framing (walls and roof) with proper connection to existing structure. I already have plans and a permit. In my mind I see a few/several hundred dollars of lumber and materials, and less than 40 hours of work to do the framing by a professional. Without measuring anything he said he did a similar job for $143K, when I balked he said no matter what it would be at least $50K. I ended the conversation.

Just an update on what happened to the project. I found another provider via another referral website. They gave me an estimate of $12,000 and that included roofing and exterior stucco. They insisted on including those as otherwise the framing alone was not a big enough job to take on. They completed the project within about 5 weeks, on time ,on budget and passed all inspections. I still need to do interior insulation and drywall. I read the response from Everlast and I still can not see how they can justify such exorbitant pricing. I should have asked for a cost breakdown to where that $50k-$143K figure came from. Do they have a line for company overhead completely unrelated to the scope of the project= $40K?  If the project is too small just say so.

Service Champions Heating & Air Conditioning
Although the installation was brand new and only used for a few days, Ryan found an open duct in the crawl space! This explained why we were smelling fire place fumes as well as we noticed musty draft in one of the kids bedrooms. Ryan fixed this immediately plus unfortunately he found more things wrong with the brand new installation -installed by another company-.
I took Ryan his notes and made a punch list for the contractor who installed everything. They were embarrassed and made the repairs.
We signed up for a service contract with Service Champions because we trust them, like they're flat rate fee structure and their responsiveness.

    McHale's Environmental Insulation Co
It all went great! I felt so bad for the workers because they came out in the afternoon during that heat wave last week. I think it was the hottest week so far this year. Temperatures were upper 90's-100's in some areas. Of course that means the attic was even hotter than that. But, they spent a few hours and did the job well. The difference was dramatic.
I chose McHale's Environmental Insulation because the estimator, Greg Blanc spent the time answering my questions and I really appreciated that. He was happy to explain things, and even suggested other ways to cool down the house. He was friendly and professional. I actually had 3 top rated companies from Angie's list give me estimates.1 of them never got back to me, but the other 2 were just about same price.
Bottom line is they were professional; they said what they were going to do, and then they did what they said. All for a good price. My wife and I are very happy with our choice!!

    McHale's Environmental Insulation Co
Company rep was prompt, responsive, price was good. Proposal was provided on a legal contract for according to CSLB requirements. I requested a rewrite w/additional detail, but the rewrite was still insufficient. I went ahead with the work, and sure enough there was a minor miscommunication resulting in a need to return to complete the work. However, the rep and crew were both very reasonable and responsive and the resolution and completion was all, very professional. I find how a company handles issue that arise is an important measure of how they do business. There was very little disruption during the work, and good clean-up. Very prompt. The crew was a little pushy about payment, asking for a progress payment when the need to return arose... which was not previously discussed or mentioned in the contract. No biggie... I didn;t pay a progress payment but phoned in a credit card number while the crew was still here. Very pleased overall.

    TruTeam of California, Inc.
The overall experience with Western Insulation was not great. The first estimate was not correct. I had to call them to remind them to send the estimate. The estimator did not show for our first appointment. The workers were always late, and the cellulose crew did not show up the first week. They asked for a progress payment, but the payment terms clearly state that the balance was due at completion of the work. The workmanship of the sub-floor bats was marginal. They had installed the bats so that the covered the vents, prevention air circulation and exposing the insulation to moisture. The cellulose crew (different work crew and different day) was unaware that I had been quoted baffels to prevent the insulation from blocking the soffet vents. I wouldn't have used this company except they are the only one I could even get to send a quotation!

Very fairly priced, but not as professional as they could be. Had to come back to finish details a few times.
