Skylight Installation reviews in Carmichael

    Solarise Inc.
I could not be happier with Solarise, Inc. Our home has five solar tubes which were here when we bought the home. In 2010 we had a new roof out on. Since that time, three out of the five solar tubes had leaked, much to our dismay. The roofing company did very sloppy patch work and were unable to correctly identify the issues with the old solar tubes. Unfortunately we had that roofing company replace two of the solar tubes before we found Solarise Inc. When the third solar tube leaked we had just installed new wood floors in our home and I was frantic to have a roof that would not leak! The roofing company was still no help (see my 2017 review of Rankin Lyman roofing) and I got on the internet and found Solarise. They came out that very day and replaced the lids of the three oldest solar tubes with 50 year (not cheap plastic ten year) metal flashing and high quality materials. They said that since we had just replaced two tubes with new ones we could safely wait a few years before replacing them. Off hand I don't recall what they charged (between 3 and 5 hundred dollars) but it was fast, professional, great looking work and I could not be happier! Thank you Solarise Inc!

    Freeman Roofing
It went just as he said it would. They started on a Tuesday with a subcontractor doing the tear-off, then his crew got the new roof on in just a few days. He had another subcontractor install gutters the next week, and it took a couple more weeks of short-term work. Jim inspected the gutters and called the sub crew back in to finish things to Jim's satisfaction, then the County inspector found a couple more things. All in all it took a month, but the actual work took about a week. We got 4 bids, all from top-rated Angie's List contractors, and Jim's was the lowest by a few hundred dollars. We have no regrets with that decision. The bonus was that someone earlier on his schedule cancelled, so rather than having the work done in October or November, he did it in August. We are very happy with the whole process.

    J Ratch Construction Inc
Jeff was quick to give us an estimate, which was very reasonable compared to the others we had gotten. We had challenges with skylights that were old and leaked. Our roof has areas that tend to retain water and cause leaks. Jeff had ideas on how to make sure the new roof will not cause problems in the future. He and his crew were punctual, courteous and professional. The job was finished In less than 4 days.

    Harlan Smith Skylights Inc
Hes EXCELLENT. A+! He built it custom and pointed out that the previous installation left about a 1 inch gap. He recommended a separate brand than I initially wanted and I'm definitely happier. He was very punctual and clean. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again and definitely recommend him!

    J Ratch Construction Inc

Shortly after one of the rain events we had in February I noticed an ominous bulge in the bathroom ceiling.  Cautious poking with a broom handle pierced the bubble and let loose a torrent of water.  I checked Angie's list for Roof Repair and chose J. Ratch  because they were located close to my home and had excellent reviews.  Jeff returned my call promptly and we set up a date for the following week.  He arrived on time and after spending a bit of time doing some exploration on my roof discovered that the flashing around my skylight was rusted through.  He proceeded to replace and seal the flashing and replace a substantial number of the composite shingles around the skylight that had to be removed to make the repair. The entire job was finished in about three hours.  He was efficient and professional, and cleaned up after the job was done.

He did a great job!  A couple of days after he did the repair the heavens opened up again and poured on us for hours.  Not a drop of water came in!  Following his advice, I am letting the ceiling dry out really well before calling him back to repair it in the hopes that not too much of the sheetrock will need to be replaced.

All told this was a great experience and I will certainly keep Jeff in mind for future repairs.

    Straight Line Construction
It went very well. I got bid from three different companies and Straight Line did go up the roof and it turned out that they miss the size so they have to order a costumed and I wasn't surprise because of the nature of the construction of the house for a skylight on the roof. The field crew that came to the house were very professional, constantly cleaning up and work for safety and the final price was more than the original bid but they seem very fair and they are still 40-60% lower than the bid I got. I think they are very credible.

Super Soundproof Window Treatments & SP Windows
They did a good job. They delivered the products when they said they would and they were here on time. They provided good service. They cleaned up afterwards. They were perfect by any means. It seemed like a family business.

    Straight Line Construction
Four contractors provided bids to replace three skylight covers that were over 30 years old with new, custom sized Velux skylights.  The bids varied from $1200 to $2700! and the high and low bids were both from Angie's List contractors.  The bidding visit by Straight-Line Construction was very straight-forward, no games or hard sell.
However, the measurement was wrong so when the installers showed up, the standard size skylights didn't fit.  It was explained that either they would have to spend time modifying the skylight roof mount, or order custom size skylights.  Either option would add to the cost, but it was understandable what was going on so I chose they order the correct size skylights.
I was initially annoyed that the salesman had not measured correctly to accurately bid the job wondering if there was some kind of bait and switch on the pricing being done where I was given a "low-ball" quote to get the job and then being up-charged to really get the job done.  Well, mistakes happen and I still had more confidence in the Straight-Line estimator's approach in measuring than the contractor estimator that didn't even go on the roof at all.  I stewed over this and concluded that while the new price quote was much more in cost, this was still mid-range in the quotes I had received and I didn't have much confidence that  mis-measuring wouldn't occur if I started over with a new contractor.
Also, I could have gone to a home improvement store and purchased their skylights for $300 bucks and messed with the
curbing for hours to custom fit their much lower quality skylights myself as a DIY, but I wanted a quality product by certified skylight/roofing contractors so my AARP self wouldn't have to deal with the situation.
The subsequent installation of the correct skylights went very fast (less than an hour for all three skylights together) and the result is very attractive, plus no condensation dripping down inside the house anymore!
Everyone, sales, office, field install crew, supervisor - were all professional and with good customer service skills.
Normally, I don't do reviews and typically reviews are from people UN-Happy about product/service quality and customer service. We subscribed to Angie's List to find out about the good and the bad about contractors, so in keeping with this purpose, it seems only right to share our experience with Straight-Line Construction and their work was excellent and they deserve this review so others can benefit by getting bids from them.
"Excellent" says it all.  This company is great.

    TIM LEAKE BUILDER
In 2 days they moved all computers & office equipment, bedroom furniture into a smaller room from which they removed large exercise equipment. They then demoed the existing space, raised ceilings, moved walls, etc. & created the new space. All subs were on a pre-existing time line set up months previously & pretty much were on time within a day or two. The entire project was 4 months. This is house was built in the 1950's & had many idiosyncrasies, i.e. nothing was square or level. They worked with all of it in a positive & creative way. We lost power for 4 days due to a winter storm & they brought us a large generator so we could keep warm. This is the third project we have used Tim Leake Builder for & would definitely use them again.

    Cal-Vintage Roofing Co Inc
One person was assigned to the project. He was prompt and careful, although some existing tiles were broken and fortunately spares were available. New tiles are not available so we lucked out. A roofer breaking tiles ( the estimator broke 3 tiles just looking at the problem) doesn't seem very professional especially if there may not have been any similar tiles available. Actual total time to repair was about 9 hrs. spread over two days. No special material were needed save for a 10 foot section of flashing. Therefore, I feel the cost was somewhat high for the actual work time and materials involved. No way of knowing if the leak was fixed until it rains. Seems roofer could have sprayed water on the area to check for leaks. The actual work was well done and professional handled.
