Solar Panel Installation reviews in Campbell

For some time, I have been wanting to do something about my garage getting hot in the summer. An opportunity arose when I saw the ad for solar attic fans from Sunlight Concepts in the August 2015 edition of Home Concepts magazine. I contacted Marjorie at Sunlight Concepts and received a quote for the RM1600 (22 watt) model via e-mail; the quote honored the discount as advertised. Even though the solar fan was advertised mainly for use over attics, it is also applicable for an open space like above a garage. Because the fan runs on solar energy, there is no operating cost. Only costs are for purchase and installation. There is also a tax credit associated with the purchase and installation as well. The two-man installation crew performed the installation on Aug. 25. They actually arrived earlier than planned but kept us informed to ensure we were ready for them. The installation took about 30 minutes. They cleaned up after themselves; there was only a little bit of sawdust and some small wood pieces that fell into the garage while they were cutting the hole in the roof. The installation lead also provided me with documentation on how the fan was installed and directions on how to register my new fan.

I also had installed the solar thermal switch which attaches between the fan motor and the solar cells. It keeps the fan from coming on until the temperature at the top of the garage reaches 85 degF. It then turns off the fan when the temperature at the top of the garage decreases to 65 degF. Without the switch, the fan would come on when there is enough sunlight in the morning and turn off when there is not enough sunlight in the evening. I don?t want the fan to operate in the winter time even if the Sun is out. I don?t mind the garage being a little bit warm when it is cold outside.

The fan runs very quiet. I can only hear it when I?m in the garage. I can?t hear it operating anywhere else inside or outside of the house. There?s no noise to bother the neighbors. My wife and I are very pleased with our new solar fan.

We picked Clean Solar based on reviews and because they are SunPower elite dealers (we wanted SunPower panels), and were not disappointed. Very thorough and smooth process, explained from the outset, with every expected milestone met on time. They accommodated changes in our schedule due to family illness?and even sent get well flowers!
Marcia did the initial visit (climbed on the roof for site inspection) and prepared bids for three different panels, and a fourth when we asked for another. Bid selected, our Project Manager went to work, sending a copy of the packet that would go to the city for permits, so we could see and confirm the design and all paperwork. Install date was set and met on time (by two team members who were on the roof in 90 degree weather!). Another team member handled city inspection and painted conduit from the roof to the box mounted outside to match exterior walls and gutters. Clean Solar handled all permits. No problems with PG&E and the system went online shortly after the permit. From our initial inquiry to completion took about four months (includes our delay for family illness)?an entirely painless process.
Pricing was on par with estimates from two other companies. We received manufacturer and special rebates, and can take advantage of the federal credit that will expire soon. We installed 15 SunPower SPR-X21-335-BLK modules with a SolarEdge 5000 Single Inverter with power optimizers. System has been generating without hiccup since day one, above expected output, with easy monitoring on iPhone app.
We can?t say enough good things about the solar hardware and especially about the Clean Solar experience and the team we had the pleasure of working with?Marcia, Pam, Tina, Shalini, Ron, Rich, Jose, and Gene.

    Buyer beware!
We responded to a sales person and were interested in their product. We had not done much research on solar and were interested in knowing more. The sales pitch is a little gimmicky with pressure to make a fast decision because "tax rebates are about to run out." Even did the "have to check with my manager" schtick and went outside to make a phone call before he offered a "reduced price".  We were reluctant to sign anything but the salesperson said that they have never forced anyone to complete the work if upon further reflection they decided to cancel the installation, even after the cooling off period had passed. We needed to sign the paperwork to get the ball rolling and find out if our electrical panel needed upgrading, our roof was in good enough condition, and our sun orientation was adequate. He assured us that there was no obligation, and said this several times.
Here is where we made our mistake. We should have refused to sign the contract but we allowed ourselves to be persuaded and trusted the salesperson's word. Don't trust these people.
You can probably predict what happened, but we were delayed in responding to the company to set up installation. This was partially due to the needs of my elderly mother who was in crisis and partially because we were trying to learn more about solar before we went forward. Imagine our surprise when we received a bill for $4000 for canceling our contract. Even though we would like to proceed with the product we are so distrustful of this company that we don't want to do business with them.
    Take your business elsewhere.

Could not be happier with REC. I worked with Steve Gross on the contract - he answered a lot of (probably dumb) questions for me and was very responsive. Paperwork was simple, as was the purchasing through Costco. When it came time for installation, a 3-person crew led by Guy Dixon showed up. They arrived every day at exactly the time they said they'd be there, and were extremely professional. I climbed up on the roof each day after they left to check out what they had done. They did great work, from matching the mounting brackets to the roof color to using custom mounting brackets to hold conduit off the roof surface to putting nice end caps on the mounting rails so that the ends weren't visible from the street. I listened in while the building inspector came by for the final inspection - he made several comments about how well done the work was.  PG&E came a few weeks later to give the OK to turn on the system.
Three months later the system has been operating just fine. The maximum system capacity is around 3.2kW (14 panels) and in early May I tend to see a peak production of around 2.8kW in the middle of the day - we'll see where it goes in the middle of summer. My electric bill is around $10/month now.
Honestly I went into this project expecting problems, especially after seeing my neighbors get a solar system installed which took over 3 weeks to complete.  To come through this project with ZERO problems was really surprising to me - a pleasant surprise.

They were very good. They were very friendly and competent. They did a good job because the strict city inspectors passed it with the exception of needing to be grounded better to a water source which was fairly a new code.

They seemed to do a really good job. It looks fine and works good. The workers did clean up after themselves. I would use them again and I thought the price was good as well. They did stick to their estimate.
