This is second time that we have contracted with Double Dub Construction for a project.  The first one was a deck replacement.  We were so impressed with Will Walker's work ethic and quality of work that we contracted with his company again to remodel our kitchen.  Will is the hardest working contactor that I have ever encountered in the course of owing several homes in a variety of states during a career in the Navy.  His crew arrives early to the job site so that they can be unpacked and ready to go to work on time, not just arrive on time.  Will and his crew work quickly without any sacrifice in quality of work.  He was very sensitive to the fact that the one of the most important rooms in the house was going to be out of commission and he made sure that his crew completed all of their tasks in a timely fashion so that cabinet installation could go as scheduled.  Will sets high standards of performance for himself and his crew and holds his subcontractors to those same high standards.  He is very sensitive to controlling dust during demolition and drywall work and in protecting floors.  His crew cleans up their work area daily and also clean up the area where they clean their equipment afterwards.  Will has been a pleasure to work with and I would definitely recommend him to anyone and will use his services again in the future.

Of course this was discovered on a Friday at approx. 3 PM. I called and they said I would have to pay an overtime fee and they weren't sure if they could even get it done that day. Shortly after that call, the repair man showed up and corrected the problem within 40 min. I receive the senior discount and no overtime fees. The plumber cleaned up the area( under a deck) and showed me where my water valve turn off was. Very polite and I will be using them again soon for some more work!

He is a very nice but but he was very slow and charged by the hour! The inside copper plumbing was done adequately but slowly. He was was not able to repair the outside pvc plumbing adequately. It subsequently failed a couple of months later.

I contacted them to come look at my water heater situation, which had dumped all its water out and wasn't functioning.  I asked them first thing if they do service in my area and they assured me they did, but that it would cost me $69.00 for an initial consultation, and that I could then apply that money toward the repairs if I chose to have them do the repair.  My original contact was on Saturday, and they told me if they were going to come all the way to my house (which, admittedly, is quite some distance from their usual servicing area), I needed to commit to doing the work at the time they came.  This made me wonder what the point of the $69 charge was then.  Wasn't that the reason they charge the money, and then apply it toward a repair later?
I decided to make an appointment during the week instead, so I didn't have to "commit" to the repair without even having a quote.  I called Monday morning for the appointment, and the person who answered the phone tried to tell me they didn't really service my area - a different story than what I got over the weekend.  When I explained that wasn't what I was told before, he asked me, "Don't you have a plumber in your area you can call?".  This should have been a red flag for me, but as I explained to him, I got a recommendation for them from Angie's List, and they don't have any plumbers on that site for my area.  He reiterated the $69.00 charge for coming to my area, and I agreed. Made an appointment during the day, which required special arrangements for me to leave work early that day.  Got home after an hour drive from work, and there was a message on my home phone from earlier in the day (even though I had specifically given them my cell phone number) asking me to call and answer some questions.  I called immediately and was told that since I didn't call back right away they had scratched me off the list.  WHAT?!  I told them that was completely unacceptable because I had already left work an hour away to be there for the appointment and made special arrangements to leave work early that day.  The plumber then made arrangements to come anyway, which I appreciated, though he was going to be later than the original appointment.  In all actuality, he was later than he said, and I ended up calling again while waiting, worried he wouldn't show up.  He finally did though.
He was a nice enough guy, and really seemed knowledgeable about the water heater situation, the codes, and all the intricacies.  He explained what was wrong, and gave a price quote of $1800-$2000 for a new water heater installation, including bringing everything up to code.  I told him that I was only quoted $1100 by Sears.  He then proceeded to bad mouth the Sears' products and their installers, suggesting that by the time they completed the job, they would have tacked on so much money it would cost just as much, if not more than his quote.  He also questioned the competency of the installation company.  In the end, he may have been right about these things, but I felt the way it was communicated was rather unprofessional.  In the end, I decided to go with the Sears product and save the money, though I didn't doubt that Boyd would have done a better job.   I just didn't appreciate getting the run around about whether they would come to my house, and then almost canceling the appointment after having made special arrangements.  Also, having to hear about how bad another company is, is off-putting.  Why not just speak about the merits of your own company without putting down others?  I think that would be more respectable.

It's nice to have input as to things I need to consider in the near future for repair, replacement or maintenance. It gives me time to consider things and my budget.
