  • It went really well, from beginning to end, we were really happy. Kevin was awesome, very professional and helpful. Jimmy, our project lead was always available with any questions and was on top of our job. Everyone did a great job and we love how the patio turned out. We would definitely recommend Kevin and Jimmy. We will def. be repeat customers and refer to other people.

  • The owner John is the last person you want to do business with. We entered into a contract last September (2016) and I'm still dealing with this guy. We agreed that he'll do pavers with a bordered pattern on half of the back yard and artificial turf on the other half. I paid him a $1000 deposit in September and he said he can start in 2 weeks. Two weeks came and he said he needed another week because of a job he was working on. He said demo will take about a week and the whole project should be completed in about 2 weeks. It's almost 5 months and the work completed is subpar. John and a "helper" would come a couple times a week for 2 - 4 hours to work and then you don't see them again until the following week. John does not communicate well with his customers except when it's time to collect a payment. By November I lost my patience and voiced my concern about how long the job was taking. He apologized but John continued to come leisurely and did not finish the work until the week before Christmas. The turf is embarrassing! First, it was obvious that there were several layers, it looked like he took scraps from another job and placed it down on my backyard. There were 2 pieces just for the side of the house. The turf didn't come up to the walls and fence, there was an obvious gap. When he came to collect his final payment in January I asked him to fix the turf, he came and covered the ends with strips of turf! Very sloppy work! I told him I wasn't paying him until I was satisfied with the work so he told me he'll order a new turf and do it again. Once done I had 4 pieces of turf! AND instead of cutting the edges it was folded under. John Carr has poor workmanship and only wants to get paid and run. BEWARE! He does not know how to work with artificial turf, he uses nails but I heard from real experts that you're supposed to use glue and line the bottom of the turf, he did not do that at all. The pavers do not have a patterned border like he promised nor is it a different color like he promised. John also does not know anything about customer service. He's running a fake business! Do not waste your time and money!

  • Very happy with the job performed by MCLM. The yard looks great. The team was very professional and delivered on everything as agreed. They know their stuff. I had many questions about types of trees, shrubs, etc. They had a lot of knowledge about what is what - along with recommendations - and that helped very much. We had one issue with the pavers during installation (due to miscommunication), so they ripped up some of what was already installed and resolved it right away without any argument. I was so pleased with this approach to customer service. I should also note, we had many changes in design before the project began, so there were a lot of updates to the proposal. MCLM was very patient and very helpful through this process. I chose MCLM for two reasons. First, they were "A" rated on Angie's list. Second, the lead guy who came out to see us and price the quote, Israel, is outstanding. I found this guy to be extremely knowledgeable and very likable. I hope to work with Israel again, he is one of the rare few contractors who I could say that about. I highly recommend MLCM, and I expect I will be using them again in the future as well. Our yard looks amazing. I added a couple of pics, however, please don't judge by these as they were taken only at night (this was just finished yesterday).

  • It went great. We had lots of meetings with Randy before demolition. Computer renderings and design plans and budgeting. The Demolition started in Aug. The workers were expceptional professional hardworking friendly and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day. We installed new driveway boarded in brick paver poarch walkway steps a low wall by the side walk a columed mailboxed stucco large paver patio in the backyard. Large sections of articifal turf front and back uplights on 10 trees and pathway lights many large boulder groupings and drought tollanact plants front and back. Randy was very flexable very concerned with doing what we wanted. Very pleasant personality who became a friend. Even though it was a very expensive project we are delighted with the results. It is low maintance it is colorful. it is serine with the lighting at night. And we have had many wonderful comments. Two things I would like to have done differently. One a bette esitmate of the cose for dumping all of the concriet. Second not sealing the flashed brick trim. The pavers accepted the sealers the brick did not

  • The owner came and gave us a quote, and told us examples of what he could do. Prior to calling him, I had signed up Angie's List coupon for the $139 first meeting/quote with Western Landscape. I didn't need to give them any more money after they came out, until we decided to use them as our landscaper. This was in September. We talked right away after I called them. One of the owners came out after we felt we had an idea of what we wanted to do. We discussed plans for replacing plants with drought-tolerant plants, and talked about what kind of trees to go in.
When they came out prior to doing the work, the co-owner asked if I had a plan drawn up?! I thought that was their job, but he told me that he'd like me to sketch out where I would like things. Fortunately, I was an art major in school, and was able to draw a plan of our yard (not to scale) and designate what was to be in each area. John Hopkins, the person who came out, showed me samples of the different plants we could use and asked me about what colors I would like to us. I'm glad he did that, because I really don't like red or orange flowering plants, and I prefer even the drought tolerant plants not to look like succulents. I don't like the look of the desert. He was very accommodating about the color scheme, and checked with me about different colors of plants while he planned, and even later while he was buying the plants.
My biggest problem was not having a definite idea in mind of what the finished product would look like. I asked how they would divide up the grass from the planter areas in the yard. John suggested brick, and that really appealed to me, but that raised the cost by several thousand. Later, after they laid everything out, I looked at our grass, and decided that really, that should be replaced was a mess. John suggested a high grade of turf (fake grass) he had been working with, and showed it to me. I couldn't believe it was fake! It was totally impressive. My husband and I talked it over, and after going through the pros and cons (price!!!), we decided to take the leap. What we had originally thought would cost us around $3,000, ended up being a $20,000 job. So be advised, and have a VERY clear plan ahead of time about what you are willing and wanting to spend and what it is you actually want to accomplish. We could have said no to any of his ideas, but when we thought about it, they made sense. If we were going to do it, we decided to do it right!
Now, our yard is a real show-stopper! Everyone who sees it, loves it. The neighbors were totally impressed. I was afraid that someone would be upset because of the fake grass, but everyone loves it. It feels like walking on carpet and is quite comfortable. Only two dislikes so far...our lawn service who cut our lawn, and our dog, who can't figure out why we have "carpet" outside. Everyone else has been really positive! In some areas, the crew laid down wood chips (it smells great, like being in the redwoods) and in some areas, there is rock. There's also some large rocks just to add interest. With the lights that highlight different areas at night, it's really beautiful!
It ended up costing a small fortune, but we did feel that we got our money's worthThe crew who did all this work, accomplished a total makeover of our yard in only 6 days! TIt includes a lot of brick set side by side, making a planter area in the center of the "grass" with two trees planted, a myriad of shrubs of different kinds using the colors of white, lavender, pink and yellow. The lawn was ripped out (rolled up, and the sprinkler system ripped out), the planter areas already existing were totally cleaned out and new soil added. The bricks were laid in only a day and a half! (beautiful job!) Where the grass was replaced with turf, they packed down the dirt at the correct level after laying lines for the electrical wires.  The dirt was covered with black plastic to inhibit the growth of weeds, etc. The plants were placed in all of the planter areas and the shrubs were all planted. An irrigation system was placed all over the yard where anything living needed to be watered, and then the planter areas were filled with either rock or mulch. The last step was to put the turf in place. They did an excellent job of that! You don't see any seams, and they pounded sort of like spikes into it in rows that were close together, so that there are no wrinkles or ripples. It really looks great. On the last day, (day six) they left around 4 in the afternoon, after picking up every tiny bit of trash, picking up every tool, and John went over the upkeep with me (how the watering takes place, what to do if it gets clogged up, where the filters are, what the timing is) and they gave me lots of business cards (which I've needed to pass out) and then they left. It was an amazing transformation in less than a week!! My husband and I are really impressed with what they accomplished and how good it looks. And the nice thing is, it will only look better as time goes on, the trees grow, and the shrubs fill out. We've been enjoying it now for several weeks, and we still just love our new look!

  • When looking for a concrete company I had 5 jobs needing to be completed:
    1. I needed a retaining wall approx. 3 feet tall and 70 feet long
    2. Backyard patio to be done in pavers
    3. a back driveway approx. 5,500 sq ft to be completed in concrete
    4. widening of the front driveway in pavers
    5. steps leading to our front door in pavers
Wow! MB Paving exceeded all my expectations. I had originally called out MB Paving to give me quote for a retaining wall and a rather large back driveway to be done in concrete, approx. 5,500 sq ft. When Jose came out he told that MB Paving also does pavers. So I had him quote out a backyard patio I wanted done in pavers. He quickly sent me the quote. The price was right for the pavers in the backyard, so he got started later that week. The work was great and we decided to continue with our back driveway.
Originally we had signed a contract with another company to complete the widening of the front driveway and the steps leading to our front door, but after MB Paving completed the retaining wall and backyard patio, we cancelled our contract with the other paver company. We lost our deposit, but we still saved money by going with MB Paving. The other company was difficult to deal with and the project turned out SO GREAT, we have never regretted our decision.
I can't say enough great things about this company! Quality was great, they were on time, worked hard, clean, professional, available for questions and concerns and they even checked back with us. A+++, Thanks, Jose. See you next time when we redo our pool!

  • In 2013,  Henry Galavis, who IS NOT A LICENSED CONTRACTOR, and lied and told ne he was, told me his wife had cancer and needed the $2000 upfront for a kitchen re-surfacing job estimated at $3800.  So I gave him the $2000, then he took weeks to get the kitchen cabinet doors to me, always delaying with another excuse.  He then said he needed another $1980.00 to continue the job.

I was so desperate to have my kitchen finished, I gave him the rest of the money. After he got this, he was even more unreliable.  When I became more firm with him on the telephone, he started yelling at me and was very unprofessional.  He showed up weekend mornings smelling heavily of alcohol.  I am a single mother, and I felt Henry took full advantage of my situation.  The job was never finished and to this day, my kitchen cabinet doors have no hardware and the resurfacing isn't matched up and just looks terrible

.I was going to sue Henry Galavis, but at the time my mother, whom I was caretaker for 3 years, had just passed away, I was going through a divorce, and had to file bankruptcy and I didn't feel I had it in me to take him to court. I would never recommend this man, he is a criminal, and I hope NO ONE uses him for any sort of work.  I hope someday soon the CA State Contractor's Board will arrest him for what he's doing.  He literally stole my money, and I hope this never happens to anyone else.

  • July 2014 update: When Randy read the comment below about being slow to respond to fix the problems that appeared, he promptly resolved the problems. He also performed some additional improvements to the scope of the work that turned out perfect. Overall, the experience with Randy Haney and Haney Landscaping has been excellent. The landscaping has grown in and I get compliments on my beautiful yard pretty much daily.

January 2014 update: the landscaping grew in nicely. Some plants died and the cement walkway he subcontacted has cracked and separated. Randy promised to repair on multiple occasions but to date nothing has happened. This is disappointing.

January 2013 entry: Overall my recommendation is and quot;Use Haney Landscape- Randy Haney and his crew are fantasticand quot;. He did what he said he would do, on time, with the highest quality, and the smartest design.

Randy and his team were always there when they said they would be. They were on time, worked hard, were respectful to me, my property, and my pets.

Randy worked with me to get the best quality plants and prices, developed a gorgeous project design, and was an outstanding partner in this endeavor.

All the irrigation, hardscape, and planting designs were done with the highest quality. The neighborhood has a huge gopher population so they put all my plants into gopher baskets prior to planting them.

I don't hesitate to give Randy Haney my highest recomendation.

  • We had priced 3 contractors. Swink's was the most reasonable, and the most reliable.  Out of the 3, Swink's was the only company that showed up on time to the initial meeting and design discussion.  They also delivered their quote when they said they would.  Process was very interactive, work was done on time and they were very professional and friendly.  I will definitely use them again for the next phase of our landscaping.

  • It went great.  Everyone arrived on time.  Being on time was a big deal to Mike.  They worked hard, fast but with much care to detail.  Everyone was extremely respectful.  When the job was done, Mike offered to take extra materials back to Home Depot for refund.  This was great because I do not have a truck.  The ONLY problem with the work was that one block out of over 250 blocks was not set correctly but the problem was easily corrected.
