    Jay's Handyman Service
Jay and his wife came out to look at some window trim around a couple of windows on my house that had areas where the paint was peeling.  Jay told me that the wood didn't need to be replaced.  He knew I had received quotes from contractors to paint the exterior of my house.  He told me I would be better off to have the painters take care of the peeling issue and that the integrity of the window trim was good.  I am writing this review because my experience with Jay and his wife was positive due to their honesty.  I will utilize their service's in the future.

Before I purchased the $125.00 for 2 hours on Angies' List I contacted the provider and told him that I wanted a ceiling fan installed in my family room. The room is already wired for a ceiling fan. The difficulty is that the ceiling is 18 feet high. I wanted to make sure that they had a ladder that would be tall enough. I was asked to send pictures of the front door and the area that the ladder would have to go through to get to the family room. I did that and was told they could do the job. There was a conversation about how long it would take to install and I was told to have a list of other things that needed to be done. When I finally made the appointment to have them come out, I reminded them that I was the person with the really high ceilings and that they needed a huge ladder. I was given an appointment for May 27 between 9:00 and  9:30.On the day of the appointment Warren calls and says that he's stuck in traffic and will be there at 10:00. Fine with me I understand traffic. Again I said I hope you have your big ladder with you.  Upon arrival Warren comes in and looks at the ceiling and realizes that his 12 foot ladder was not tall enough for him to do the job. My sister gets on the computer and finds a place that will rent a 16 foot ladder for $45.00. Of course Warren has to go and pick up the ladder and bring it to the house. He then spent about an hour installing the fan, but because of picking up the  ladder and then returning it, 3 hours have gone by. When he returned from dropping off the ladder, I asked him where we were as far as time. He replied that I owed him an extra hour. I disagreed with that assessment and he informed me that  he had clients lining up for his services and left.Without the running back and forth for the ladder he would have time to install a second ceiling fan. How many times did I need to tell him that the ceiling was 18 feet?I was really disappointed that this didn't go better as I had other projects that I would have wanted him to do.In the end I paid $170.00 for a ceiling fan installation.

    VON ROTZ CONSTRUCTION
He did what he said he was going to do. He did a very good job on it. He have a very difficult house because we have no attic. He went through the closet and he did a good job. He cleaned up afterwards. We had a heater put in at the same time so he was working with them. Part of the agreement between the two of them was that he would come back and do the patch up work on the drywall. He came in and did the patch up work and painted and he did a good job. We were a little taken back because we thought he would take a credit card but when he came in for payment, he wanted a check. It was a lot of money to put out when we were not expecting it. We can't remember if we asked him or not. He was very professional. The other thing was that he was supposed to give us a quote for a countertop and on that, he failed miserably. He didn't give us the quote and he didn't return our phone calls.

    A Better Choice Painting
I purchased a "Big Deal" to for interior painting.  The coupon was for "one large room, up to 600 sq. ft." for $79 dollars plus materials.  That sounded great - my living room is largish, but way less than 600 square feet.  I bought the deal, and spoke to the company on the phone to schedule a time.  All good so far.
When the painters show up they claim that the 600 square feet applies to the surface areas of the walls, not the area of the room, and quoted me a much higher price.  I found this extremely misleading, but we had already moved all the furniture and prepped the room, so we went ahead with the painting.  Notably they had not confirmed the size of the room when we scheduled the painting, to confirm their odd interpretation of a 600 square foot room.
So how about the quality of the work?  I should preface this by saying that I liked the guys who did the painting - good social skills.  But the quality of the work, not so much.  They were sloppy with the drop clothes (didn't cover our furniture) and as a result there is paint on our nice sofa.  There's also paint in the carpet.  And they got a significant amount of paint on the oak built-in in the hallway.  Come on guys - you could have taped that.
In short, I would not recommend A Better Choice Painting.

Prompt, helpful. Sent us to distributors to pick out slab. Then had us come in to approve how slab would be cut before cutting. When needed emergency plumber, got one in that day.
