The staff is friendly and the doctor is an older man so he is good at what he does. He is a wonderful doctor who is careful conscientious and takes a lot of time. He handles kids well, does not talk too much and is simple in the way that he handles children. He talks to the kids and does not only talk to parents. He listens to my daughter and I can't say enough about him. He is not always available; his hours are sometimes a little limited.

    Grogan, Dr. Thomas J
I will never forget how wonderful Dr. Grogan was when our son was hit by a car and broke his foot in a few places. Dr. Grogan performed surgery and inserted pins into his foot. When our son was recovering at home and felt some numbness in his toes, Dr. Grogan stopped by on a Sunday to check on him. Yes, he even made a house call! He later took the pins out and our son healed very nicely. Dr. Grogan always listened to the kids and patiently answered all my questions. He has a kind bedside manner and I feel at ease with him, something I value highly with doctors. I drive from the Valley to Santa Monica to see him and he's worth it.

We were referred to them by our regular doctors, and they have always provided excellent care. Their treatment has been very effective. Their availability is pretty good; it is really not hard to schedule an appointment with them. We would use them again in the future.

She is an excellent pediatrician and orthopedic surgeon. She has several different offices. She has a very good bedside manner. She explains things well. She seems to be on top of all the latest development in medicine. The staff is always very accommodating. The administration and billing has always been good.

    Carl Weinert MD
Quickly diagnosed a painful condition in the leg of an 8 year old child. I received the highest recommendations for this doctor as being a top ortho for kids in Orange County. However, he seemed to assume that there would be a poor outcome and my child would need a hip replacement sooner or later. He seemed more thrilled at the idea of what fabulous hip replacements would be available in a few decades than he was concerned about the consequences of the poor outcome itself, or how much suffering my child would endure until that time. In other words, he is a surgeon, and he's excited about surgery. He observed a one inch difference in leg length at the end of my child's treatment, but could not be persuaded that it would make any difference. Just looking at a toy skeleton would make any reasonable person think that having one leg that is much shorter than the other would lead to some problems, but the doctor's thinking was, when the pain becomes so debilitating that you can no longer work, come back and we'll (make a bunch of money and) give you a new hip. He would not prescribe an orthotic or a heel lift to enable my child to walk without a limp, because he thought the limp wasn't bad enough; most people don't really walk perfectly evenly, and most people don't have legs exactly the same length. This bothered me, and it eventually bothered my child enough we got a chiropractor to order an orthotic. The pain in the back and hip was gone in about 2 weeks.

He wasn't good with my daughter but he was fine with my son. He referred us to someone else but the information wasn?t good. I wasn't happy with the experience. My son's experience was excellent. He has a shoulder problem and he helped him out with that. His bedside manner is fine and he is very professional. His office staff is fine. He is a good doctor and he is usually competent.

My son was born with a club foot and we were referred to Dr. Caputo at Ventura Orthopedics... being a new mom and having to go here with a 2 week old, I assumed that everything would go fine, but i was wrong. After 8 weeks, my husband and I removing the casts each week (what am I paying them for if I have to do it), and almost my entire maternity leave, Dr. Caputo said my sons foot looked good, didn't need surgery and the "brace" (yes in quotes there) would be just fine. I didn't feel comfortable with that and was thinking to get a 2nd opinion. On my way out, their "Office Manager" cornered me in front of other patients and loudly said that I had to make 50% payment for all services rendered before I was allowed back. I stated that I would not pay until my insurance paid and that it was not my problem you never asked for co-pays, I specifically asked every time I went in. I told them, you've received my portion of payment for the services rendered that the insurance has already paid. I would not pay the rest until after the insurance made their payments. I asked to speak to the doctor which she refused to go get her. I ended up getting 2 separate opinions (one from a doctor at UCLA that has done this for 25+ years) - both stated that my son needed additional casting, surgery, and the brace I had - they had never seen before in their lives. They also stated they were confused that Dr. Caputo would state what she stated to me. So in the end, Dr. Caputo costed me another $3000 to go to a new doctor for him to fix her mistakes (additional casting and surgery). His new doctor at UCLA is even cheaper that Dr. Caputo's fee (go figure!). I turned them in to HIPPA for violating my son's medical information in front of all their other patients (which is a NO-NO). I contacted their HR department which they said they would look into it, but as soon as I said I turned them in to HIPPA, I never heard from them again. DO NOT GO TO VENTURA ORTHOPEDICS IN THOUSAND OAKS - Their office manager, Emeritt, is horrible. Dr. Caputo apparently does not know what she is doing. Luckily I found a great orthopedics doctor that corrected the mistakes Dr. Caputo did. My son is now 2 and you would never know. In the long run, it did cost me additional money but having the happiness and health of my son is worth it.
