Garage Door Repair And Installation reviews in Blackhawk

    The Door Doctor
Andrew cheerfully replaced both springs in my garage door, explaining the process step-by-step. One of the springs had broken so I replaced them both. He also lubricated all moving parts of the door. The shop had given me an estimate for the work over the phone, which is what I was charged. The whole process took about 1 hour.

The estimation process was outstanding - very detailed - felt they cared about doing my job. Excellent communications throughout the process. I did not award them the job due to cost factor - otherwise they would have won my job.

Rollers were replaced, however was told another partner was the weather stripping expert and he would connect with me. After a few days I called again asking to speak to the weather stripping expert and was told he would call me but never heard back from them.

It was great. I think it took him 30 minutes to do it. It was fantastic. I thought I would have to repair or replace more than that. He actually said no and that I only had to replace the spring. I thought I would have to replace the operator that pull the door up. He saved me time, money and repaired the one thing that needed to be repaired. He was efficient. He came out the very next day. It was fast service. I didn't have to wait a week. He was busy and made time for my repair. I was happy about that. I thought it was a little pricey for the springs. He was honest, and he knew what he was doing. I'll call him again. The total price was $357 but he gave me an $18 discount.

He came very soon after I called him as my garage door completely broke. The service and price were excellent and the entire thing was taken care of in just one day. Replacing a garage door is a huge job. I'm very pleased with the price and results.

    The Door Doctor
Last November, my garage door came off the track and collapsed in a heap. I thought for sure I would need to replace it. Justin from The Door Doctor came out the next day and told me I would NOT need a new door and that he could take care of it. Amazingly, he fixed it so well one can hardly tell it was ever damaged. Moreover, it runs smoother and quieter than ever! Different Door Doctor technicians had to come back several weeks later to replace the one of the windows that shattered because the type of door I have is out of production.

Tyler was knowledgeable, informative, and personable. When I initially called him to describe what happened to our garage door, Tyler diagnosed our problem right away. Work was done promptly and professionally and on the Saturday right after New Year's! Other companies were closed until Monday.

When I moved into my townhouse last year, I knew the garage doors were on their last legs and I was going to have to replace them sometime in the near future.  Well, the one door (two car garage with two single doors) finally gave out.  So I immediately looked for providers on Angie's List and saw that The Alcosta Co. got an "A" rating with the most reviews.  And it was in the next town to boot.  On their website they tout that they operate 24/7 and do emergency work.  I called at 06:00 am on a Monday morning and Roger, who I found out later is the owner of the company, answered the phone.  He told me someone will be out in the morning to give me an estimate.  Roger himself showed up at 10:00 am that morning.  He was professional, congenial and very knowledgeable of garage doors and the products he sells.  Since I live in a townhouse, I am bound by the townhouse rules on styles and type of garage door.  Roger recommended a product that would work for me.  Roger also recommended that I only needed one new motor and advised the other motor was still good.  I was impressed by his honesty and ethics.  He could've easily sold me two motors.  Roger provided me with a written, detailed estimate and required a $200 deposit.  I told Roger I was an Angieslist member and he gave me a 5% discount.  Roger also provided the full name of the person who would be doing the install.  I have a busy work schedule and I was heading out of town that weekend.  I really wanted to get this done asap.  Roger told me the earliest he would be able to have the doors installed that Thursday, which worked for me.  Later that day, I received a call from someone at his office who confirmed that someone would be out Thursday morning at 08:00 am.  On Thursday at 08:00 am, the installer showed up.  He had a professional demeanor. He introduced himself. He was awesome.  He was extremely efficient and didn't mess around.  He told me he would be done around 1:00 pm.  He was done at 11:00 am!!!  The removal work included removing the old doors (obviously), the tracks and the one motor.  The install included new tracks, two new doors and one new motor.  There may have been other parts/pieces/stuff that I'm not aware of.  The installer went over the work that he did and showed me the operation of the doors.  I paid by check. I would definitely recommend Alcosta Co. and I plan on using them every year to provide annual servicing.

    Precision Door Service
The only reason we called them was because we had a sticker in the garage from the time they came out 6 or 7 years ago and it was a Sunday. After getting confirmation that it would cost no more on a Sunday than it would on Monday, we booked an an appointment for them to come out between 8 and 10 pm.  It seemed late, but for no extra cost, why not deal with it right away? The woman who took the call said the technician would call 30 minutes before he arrived.
The doorbell rang at 7 pm as we had just sat down to dinner. No call, but at least he was here and it was still light out. We explained the situation and reminded him that we had two brand new cars in the garage and to be very careful around them. We even moved them a foot or so to give him more room as the door was stuck shut and we couldn't get them out of the garage when he arrived. After getting a quote that seems too high to me for what needed to be done, we asked what their hourly rate was and how long he thought it would take. He said it could take an hour or several hours, he did not know. Hmmm...ok, well...not wanting to pay $49 for a wasted trip and not knowing just how long it would take, we agreed to the flat rate of $175 plus the $49 call charge.
It took him less than an hour. Of course. But that's not the issue. The issue is that all of a sudden I smelled what sounded like spray paint coming from the garage and I went out there and was almost knocked over by the odor and the garage door was closed. I asked him what he was doing and what smelled so bad and he said he had sprayed "silicon" on the wheels and hinges. Silicon? I asked him if he meant lubricant and he said, "no, silicon". Hmmm...then I looked down and ran my finger across the windows and side of my car and noticed white flecks and what appeared to be dusty oil all over the cars. Seeing that I was not happy about this and still insisting it "just silicon", I said, show me the can and he immediately said, do you want me to clean it?
What the h***? What about be careful around the new cars did he not understand? The door was fixed and all he had to do was ask us to move or cover the cars because he was going to spray something that would get all over them! Ridiculous, unprofessional, and stupid. He asked again, "do you want me to clean it"? No. No I do not want you anywhere near our cars again you fool. Who knows what you think would be appropriate for "cleaning up" the mess you made.
As a result of this experience with this one very inexperienced person, we would not hire them again. Ever.

    NOR-CAL OVERHEAD
The technician came out and told me it would be $285. Told him to start the job. Next thing I know he is telling me that a lot of things needed replacing and it was $680. I felt like I was being pressured by a salesman. The final icing on the cake was when he told me he loved customers like me that don't have it all fixed and then he has to come out again.
Paid my $85 for him to do nothing.
Called another company recommended here. Price was great. He did not agree with the previous estimate.
