Home Inspection reviews in Berkeley

  • Great. Asked him to come in after the roof of a newly purchased house began to leak. Matt was very thorough and spent well over 3 hours looking through the house, attic and crawlspace. He was very informative and answered all of my questions with patience and detail. Since the inspection he has been forthcoming with recommendations for folks to fix the plumbing issues etc. He did miss one item on the written inspection that he had mentioned in person. When I reminded him he promptly added it to the inspection and resent the inspection within 2 days. I highly recommend him.

  • Horrible!!  The owner of the company called me at 6 p.m. the night before the inspection from the grocery store to increase the amount of the quote.  It was completely unprofessional and inappropriate.  He had to cut the conversation short because he was in the check out line and call me back.  When he called me back he said if I didn't pay the increased price his company would not show up and do the inspection.  DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!

  • It went well with Harmon. They were very thorough, maybe a little bit too thorough. The report was very thorough and had great photos to review, to show the areas that needed repair or replacement, and videos and they were available to answer any questions.

  • I waited a few months after the inspection to write the review, just in case problems that were not found during the inspection came out. There has been none so far. Mark inspected our first house. I think he did a terrific job and is very responsible and professional.
    1. The report is very clear and more like a useful handbook for first-home buyers like me and my husband. It was particularly useful for us because we were not present for the inspection.
    2. I feel that Mark really cares about his customers. Because of our absence during inspection, Mark spent almost an hour to go over all details in his report with me over the phone and answered all my naive questions. Even after we moved in, I called Mark about a water stain on the ceiling. He came in with all tools, did the measurement, and assured us that it was nothing to worry about.
Overall, I would choose Mark again for my future house inspections. His price is higher than average home inspections, but I think you get what you pay for.

  • I chose Alley Electric after reading Angie's List reviews and checking Yelp.  They have earned these reviews. Alina, co-owner and Wesley's wife, friendly and efficient, took my call and arranged an appt. for an inspection and bid the following week. Danny did the review and walk through of the house, taking detailed notes. Later Wesley arrived and went over the proposed work. We agreed that Wesley would send a bid the following evening by email. We made one change which required a second bid the following day. I accepted the bid and received a contract by mail in a couple of days. Two or three electricians worked each day with few breaks. They all seemed to enjoy working for Danny and Alina. That says a lot about a company. This is a small family business committed to customer satisfaction who can do large or small projects at a competitive and reasonable price.  Wesley and Alina determine who to send to each job and Wesley checks in personally before the day is over.
My only regret is that I didn't have this work done earlier. I have lived with insufficient lighting in my kitchen, closets, yard and basement. I never dreamed that this work would make such a difference, not to mention the fact that my home is safer now with upgraded outlets and no fuse box in my closet.
A suggestion for the consumer and the company:  drilling plaster anywhere does create fine dust and there will be more than a little vacuuming after the work is done, even when plastic covers most of the surfaces. If you have surfaces harmed by plaster dust, cover them or have them cover them. They have rolls of plastics and would be happy to cover anything you wish covered.  I think I may have covered my computer desk and tv and stereo area if I had thought about it.  I dusted each room after they had vacuumed-a small price for a great job. I'd also ask for a phone call if the project starts later than expected due to traffic delays. This company travels long distances in morning commute traffic and arrival time is not always predictable.

  • Charles came out to do the work.

He did not start right away, instead carefully looking in each area, and trying to determine where the termites had come up. His goal was not to treat and run, but to ensure the vulnerable areas of the house had proper coverage. He did not skimp, and in fact did much more than the minimum.

McDonald agreed to use Altriset on this job, which is a lower toxicity chemical compared to the Termidor they usually use. Both would be even better (for a one-two-punch).

The job was well done. Cleanup though was not a strong point. Outside it was fine, but on the interior slab we did have to come by afterward and clean. Charles was also missing some nozzles for the injection hose.

    ------------------

A month later a problem has come up. The method used to seal the chemical holes was totally insufficient. If you have work done with them, be sure they are using a new method. In our case the cracking holes got burred under a new wood floor. Radon, chemicals and even termites can come up these holes. Other contractors may have the same problem. • Jay is a great provider. First, he's tech savvy with a nice online scheduling application. This is a livesaver when buying a house and having a short inspection period. He communicated well before, during, and after the inspection. He was prompt. And picky (well, that's what you want in an inspector). He talks a mile a minute, and prefers that you follow along and see everything he's seeing. Seems he's half inspector, half home repair educator. Unlike some other providers he'll check out the roof (to a limit). He was willing to move the odd obstruction out of the way (and put it back just as it was). He had little booties to put over his boots to protect the carpet. And he saved the overalls and dirty jobs for last. He started at 10am on the dot, finished just a tad late at 2pm, and worked every minute in between. He'll come to the house by bicycle if you're close enough.

  • We hired Roger to inspect a house for us for a potential purchase. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. He spent about 6 hours looking over the house (about 4000 sq ft) and even looked behind the insulation in the basement and in both attics for defects. The company is a bit more expensive c/w other options, but well worth the money. Highly recommended. Would definitely hire again for future inspection needs.

  • The person who came was very thorough. He is used by many people around here. He spent quite a bit of time doing the inspection. He came highly rated by a Realtor. The report that he gave was very detailed.

  • I took some time to consider this review so that I could characterize the experience clearly and honestly, and I arrived at the example of a student who earns D?s and F?s throughout the semester but comes in for the final and earns a decent grade. I do want to start by saying that, ultimately, the owner of the company got involved, and she did work really hard to correct the problems that occurred on the job while providing a significant level of customer outreach. Working with her was a good experience, and she assigned a different installer/manager to the job which made a difference. Her personality and demeanor were very friendly, professional and apologetic. The problem was how poorly things were handled until she got involved. She did apologize profusely and told me this wasn?t their typical level of performance, and others here have reviewed them positively. Perhaps the job was too small for their full attention. Anyway, her involvement earned a ?B,? but this is averaged with the ?F? that the installer I was working with earned. After using them to complete a termite inspection, I approved a proposal to repair dry rot and replace a door, small window, and portions of a deck (as well as some minor additional work). Suffice it to say there were delays and problems from July until the owner?s intervention in December. Once the previous work was corrected by the new crew and the new small window came, the work was fine...a "B."
