Berkeley Air Duct Cleaners Reviews
Normally, I would resist such tactics, but knowing how badly my furnace really needed cleaning and being aware of the value of UV sanitizing, I agreed.
The assistant did a great job of removing the furnace fan unit, thoroughly cleaning it, cleaning the inside of the furnace while the unit was out, and replacing it. Installing the UV was a little less smooth. The UV lamp is installed in a sheet metal rectangular chamber on top of the furnace where the heated air accumulates entering the duct work. A hole was cut in the sheet metal to insert the bulb, but as the cut was being made I noticed the the bulb would not fit coming in from that side, so another hole was cut on a second face. The hole on the first face was covered with duct tape and the lamp was successfully installed in the second hole.
At this point the crew seemed to run out of time. After clearing the charge for my credit card they quickly packed up and left. No attention had been given the dryer exhaust duct and I was left with packaging, sheet metal scraps and tape debris to clean up around the furnace.
I believe the crew did a good job with the cleaning, even though I witness none of the actual duct cleaning, being occupied with the sales pitch in the furnace room, and didn’t see any camera scanning of the ducts either before or after they were cleaned. I did observe the furnace fan inside the furnace on the scan monitor. The new electrostatic furnace filter was much cleaner when I recently checked it compared to the accumulation I would see after a similar time interval prior to the duct cleaning.
My dissatisfaction with the experience was primarily due to the high pressure sales attack which was beyond acceptable. I had not intended to have this contractor clean my furnace and had not even given thought to adding an UV lamp to the process. As a result I was unaware of what would have been reasonable cost for these two add-ons. I now know that the cost of the UV lamp was several times actual cost. I do not know what the lamp plus installation would cost as a separate job.
I am not unhappy that I had this work done, even if at a premium. I probably would not have had my furnace cleaned for awhile, or quite awhile, and it needed to be done now. It seems the addition of the UV lamp is a positive move and I would not have pursued that on my own. Having this contractor do it all while here got it done.
I suspect this contractor would get more repeat customers if they had a different approach to pushing work not agreed on in advance.
They also cleaned an inspected the laundry dryer duct and vent system and did a minor inspection on the furnace itself.
Everything went smoothly.
We settled up and
Overall I was quite impressed with
