I was traveling with a friend in the San Jose area and someone flagged us down and said his brake lights were not working. We stopped in to Saratoga Shell and I and they found quickly that the brake switch was faulty. We filled up the tank with gas and they had a switch there within 45 minutes. They put it in for my friend and we were off. Thanks guys!

Spiteri's regularly services all three of my vehicles:  Audi S4, Toyota LandCruiser and Ford E350 SuperDuty.  Over the years they have done smogs, AC compressor replacement, brakes, oil-changes, radiator change, emissions fixes, new tires, etc.
I use them because A) They are close to my house and they gladly provide me promptly with rides home, B) They are extremely clean, professional and orderly, almost to a fault, as the check-in and check-out procedures take a while because they so thoroughly document the issues and explain things, C) In the almost 10 years I have been using them I (an automotive mechanical engineer) feel that they have always done professional work and that they are honest, D) They will work with you on the issue and try and get you the best deal on parts or determine a way to minimize the cost if you ask, and E) They are friendly and all seem to like being there, almost a family, and even remember your name....a little thing in the big scheme of things but nice nonetheless.
Lastly, they are not cheap...their hourly rate is approaching that of a dealer, so don't go here if you are looking for a cut-rate bargain. Life is too short to feel like you're being cheated or to suffer poor workmanship, so I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for soundness of mind. About the only time I did compare quotes between the dealer and Spiteri's to replace the AC compressor on the Ford E350, Spiteri's did come in almost a thousand dollars cheaper.  They do send out by mail a lot of coupons however, so you could try and use those.

German Auto Kraft seems to be very professionally run - their front desk lady is well-trained and a good salesperson - she had an automatic salespitch for why they charge $285 just to exchange the freon for my air conditioner. Unfortunately, the Internet now exists and their assertion that an aftermarket AC compressor costs $700 when you can find them available on the Internet from reputable vendors for $200-300 is not good business.
All of the mechanics I've been to recently also think that because they are willing to show me the parts after they do the work, that allows them to get away with overcharging me. It's pretty clear that some enterprising entrepreneur will start a company that gets rid of the overcharging games that automechanics think are fair game today. Until then, I predict GAK will make a pretty penny.
In short, I'm not going to go back unless I want to overpay for autoservices for my BMW.

I hired 034 Motorsport to install an APR Stage 1+ ECU upgrade in my 2012 Audi TTS. The upgrade included new engine software, and a high pressure fuel pump. Unfortunately the upgrade didn't work well. The engine light illuminated during heavy acceleration, and the computer reported misfires at high RPMs.
I brought the car back for service several times. They tried new spark plugs, new coil packs, and even downgraded the fuel pump back to stock. None of that helped, and they were unable to make the upgrade work. Keep in mind this was a nearly new car, only 15 months old, and still under warranty. The upgrade never worked, and they couldn't find anything wrong with the car.
I eventually gave up, and they downgraded the car back to stock. So now I have a stock car, spent $1936 to have the car upgraded, they have all my money, and they have my high pressure fuel pump.
I politely asked for a partial refund. After all, I wanted to be fair. It wasn't necessarily their fault that the APR software didn't work, and I wanted them to be reimbursed for their labor costs. My total bill was $1936, and I asked them to refund $1116 for the following items:
        * APR software
        * Half the cost of the fuel pump
        * The mysterious $100 convenience fee they charged
        * Sales tax on the above items
That was nearly 3 months ago, I still don't have my refund, don't know if or when it will arrive, and I don't know how much they will refund me (if anything). I have written a dozen e-mails to them, written a letter to the service manager, and none of that seems to matter. All I hear are empty promises that they are working on getting me a refund of some kind.
To make matters worse, I had additional problems:
    * After the initial upgrade, the technician accidentally left my old fuel pump in the car. I had to drive for an hour round-trip to return the fuel pump. It was a big inconvenience.
    * During one of my return visits I had an appointment to put my car on the dyno. I arrived on time, and waited for almost 2 hours. I was eventually sent home, because it turns out the technicians were too busy that day.
    * During two of my other visits I waited for more than an hour before anyone looked at my car. I understand that keeping exact appointment times is difficult. However, it would have been nice if someone called to let me know they were running behind.
    * They initially said my refund would be given as a store credit. What the heck? Why would I want a store credit at a shop that was unable to make my only upgrade work? I talked them out of that.
    * They said they would call me every day to give me updates on my refund. Yeah right! I don't hear anything from them unless I write an e-mail to complain.
So there you have it. They were unable to upgrade my car, kept all of my money, won't say when I'll get a refund, won't say how much they will refund, didn't keep their appointment times, didn't communicate well, and wasted huge amounts of my time.
I would stay far away from this place. There are other shops in the Bay Area that perform engine upgrades. You might as well pick one that will stand behind their work.

I got a discount coupon on-line and they are near my work, so I stopped in on a late Friday afternoon and they performed the smog check immediately for me. No waiting needed.  The price was great and they performed the required smog check on my vehicle and submitted the results directly to the DMV.   This is a very bare-bones establishment.  There is a waiting "room" with a few chairs but its not inviting so I chose to just stand outside for the 15-20 min the process took.  The technician barely spoke English but he seemed to understand my English sufficiently to preform the work and was competent at the job he performed.  Overall, if you are looking for a basic, quick, and cheap smog check then this place will do the job.  But, don't expect a comfortable, pleasant ambiance while you wait.

We made an appointment for a convenient time for us, they had the necessary parts in stock, used their shuttle after we dropped off the car, and they called us promptly and professionally with updates.  Picking up the car went smoothly and quickly too. Open long hours on Saturday was very helpful.  They did a fine job with the repairs although being a dealer the price was fairly steep.  Our car was parked outside for a couple of days and therefore was dirty upon pickup.  We would have appreciated a car wash.

Chris is extremely professional in the way he conducts his business. He keeps a running history on his customer's cars, and provides recommendations re: what is best to have done at the next visit to maintain a "healthy" car. Of course, customers are welcome to make their own decisions about what maintenance they want done. Chris is a man of integrity who politely/respectfully answers all questions. His office manager, Leslie, is wonderful. She is cheerful and always calls to let us know when our cars are ready. We feel lucky to have found Cand T Automotive and would not consider taking our cars to any other mechanic.

These people are the best! They explain everything in a detailed, easy to understand manner. You are welcome out in the shop area to actually see what is being done to your vehicle and they have nice amenities in the waiting area. I have been using their service for all my automotive needs, small and large, for 15 years

Spiteri's is a profession organization. The service crew and the people in the front office are responsive to questions and concerns. The price charged may be a bit higher than at other service organizations but I feel that the work can be trusted and is worth the money.
