So far, I an very unimpressed with the way Gary (the owner) runs this business. I was told months ago that work on my project would begin within 3 weeks of accepting the quote that we were given. That was mid-February. Each time my wife or I attempted to inquire about the start date, our calls/emails would either be completely ignored or we would be told "I'll have to check and get back to you." 2-1/2 months later, we were sent an email that stated that work would begin at 7am, May 2nd. My wife took off time for work so that she would meet the crew and hand off the keys. We made arrangements to have our dog watched over while the crew removed the fence. Morning of May 2nd, my wife received a call saying that they wouldnt be on-site until 10:40. It's currently 2:30pm and after several attempted calls to Gary, we've now been told tomorrow... I completely understand that delays happen in projects and I hold no grudge for things that happen outside of the control of the company. My problem is with the dependability and integrity of Gary. We have had several phone calls/voicemails completely ignored. He has yet to ever reach out and contact us about a delay before the previous start time had elapsed. We decided to work with Hollingsead Masonry based on the amazing reviews that they have received, but so far after we shook hands in my backyard in February, I have yet to see anything about his customer service that warrants such praise.

We had hoped to have Gary remove the interior brick around our fireplace prior to having the area tiled.  Unfortunately, his schedule and the start date for the tile installation did not coincide.  However, the dealings we had with Gary left a very positive impression, and we will not hesitate to call him should the need for additional masonry work arise again.

My initial contact was May 11.  He came right away, but he was waiting on others to give an estimate as to how much that would cost.  It was all complicated because it was a retaining wall that was already giving way.  So part of the problem was figuring out how to take it down safely.  He was involved with another project and told me it would be a month out before he could start.  He was accurate on all the times he gave me.  They started on 6/22/2015, a Monday and had it up by Friday.  Then the wall needed to dry before they could back fill it with the dirt that was now on my lawn.  They came back on Monday and completed it all in the morning.  I could not tell that a mess had been there.  My yard was completely cleaned up.  They swept my patio.  I thought I would have a big clean up job, but I didn't.  Also, this wall went in around 1959 as just a wall.  Very little rebar was in it.  I think just enough that if they were asked was rebar used, they could say yes.  After the houses on this street were built, a closed condo neighborhood was built just north of the street I'm on.  They have to be about 12 feet above my house.  Several other houses are affected the same way I was.  No one else has done any work yet.  I just didn't have any idea who to contact to help pay for this, so I paid for it myself.  I think they bulldozed the extra dirt against the wall which was never designed to support that dirt.  His crew were very professional.  They started between six and six-thirty in the morning and finished by 1 or 2 in the afternoon.  It was in the 100s at this time. That price might be reasonable.  I don't know.  It was just more than I had on me.  I had to pull it out of my retirement.

This is the second time we used Outdoor Creations on a major project, and they didn't disappoint. I trust them with all my fence work. They have done brick walls, wood fencing, and dirt work for us. We have a bid for a new stucco wall, which we will have done by OC as soon as we save up the money. Costs a little more, but you get what you pay for. I recommend OC.

Blockwall: They did an excellent job in putting up the block wall so much better than the other contractors who previously did the other side of the yard. They took about a week to do the work - first the old fence was taken down and hauled away. Then the work on the block wall began. They were real careful with the mortar. Once that was done they cleaned up the area very well and raked the rock pebbles back into place. About five days later someone came and hauled off the excess dirt.
Added stucco: Now, about the stuccoing part of the job. The other guy came out and did the work but he didn't match the stucco color with the house as Gary had promised. I called Gary and he said the guy would come out again to re-do the area. It's been three weeks since the blockwall was finished and the stucco is still not acceptable, i.e. the color still doesn't match. I think he did come out to try to re-do it but instead he colored the side of the house to match the work that he did instead of changing the color on the block wall.
Final analysis: Gary's company finally came out and did an excellent job and I would definitely recommend him to anyone. The wall was put up in less than a week and the area was cleaned up nicely. The price was a bit more than some places but quality was more important to me. The stuccoing part I assume was done by another person whom Gary had contracted out to finish the job. Unfortunately, it is still not done properly. I'm hoping that Gary will get on him to finish the work.
Update: The stuccoing part of the job was done. Doug came out and re-did the color to get it to match with the house. I still wasn't satisfied so both he and Gary came out to check it out. Upon my closer inspection It turned out that the color was very close to what I wanted, and it was done as promised. So, thanks to Gary and Doug for getting it done. It looks very good. I will use them both in the future if I am in need any of their services.

He had several helpers and all were very professional. I pointed out a concern I had about a large root from a large tree adjacent to the path of the block wall. Gary, the owner, carefully re-barred the area and carefully installed the blocks over the root so the root had room to expand without a noticeable break in the lower blocks. I don't even notice the root now. He perfectly matched up the existing block wall I have on the other side of my yard. They did an excellent job. I am very pleased with the work.

Gary returns all calls quickly, came out to give a free quote and to top it off the work done was excellent. Very pleased with the promptness of the work done, quality of work, no complaints! I'll need more work done in the future and I'll definitely be coming back to Gary.

Jason represented himself as a licensed contractor. He showed me a contractor's license (which had apparently been altered) and a copy of his Workman's comp ins (which had also been falsified) on the day of the pour. He demanded immediate payment in cash before the job was completed. He left immediately thereafter, stating he would drop off a copy of his License, Insurance and a W9. This would be the last we ever saw of him. Multiple attempts were made were made to resolve the situation. Mr Scheer eventually stopped responding.
He refused to give us a receipt for the money, failed to return with the W9 and copies of his Contractor's Lic and WC Ins. After doing some research, it was discovered that his Contractor's License had been cancelled and not allowed to renew due to outstanding civil judgements. He also had an outstanding bond payment. Checking with the courts, he had multiple judgements against him.
The Contractor License number was 829236

Gary Hollingsead was referred to my husband and I by a friend that had used him at her home. She told us he and his crew are professionals and they do superior work. They really did. My husband is into drawing and architecture and he was very impressed with the straight lines and overall craftsmanship of this company. They cleaned up our yard perfectly. Gary made sure we were happy with everything before he billed us. I do not think his prices are high for the type of workmanship his men do. My job was technical and needed and experienced crew. Out of all the masons that I had bid my yard, he was the only one that I believed could build what I wanted. It is beautiful and should be on his website.

Gary called me back immediately to set up an appointment to measure my backyard. He was prompt, professional, and very quick. I receive a quote via email a couple of days later. It is such a large expense that my husband and I were contemplating for a while, about a month. They said they would also speak with neighbors if that would help. We decided to put it off for right now, actually we want to think more about it. I am very impressed with Gary and his wife was just as responsive via email. I'm also impressed with other work he completed around town such as the new outdoor wall at Osh and the Starbucks in the same lot. When we are ready, we will use him.
