Hardwood Flooring reviews in Bakersfield

We had a wonderful experience from the very first phone call. We were under the gun, timewise, due to a previously hired refinisher postponing several times before we finally canceled. Janelle responded to my email quickly and professionally. She empathised with our situation and squeezed us in for an estimate the very next morning. Russ arrived as promised. He, like everyone else we came in contact with, was friendly, professional, and knew what he was doing. His estimate was very reasonable. He offered to check his calendar and get back to us with a start date later that day. We received a call from him (within an hour) letting us know they were free to start the next morning. The Friday before a holiday weekend! The guys, Tyler and Landon, arrived on time and got right to work. I signed a contract, paid a deposit and the work was underway before I drove away. The original arrangement was to work on Fri and Sat. Take Sun and Mon off for the holiday, work Tue and Wed to finish the job. They ended up working Sat and Sun and finishing a day early for us. The floors had some termite damage that required some additional repairs and there was some pretty ugly staining and water damage...long story short: They are now beautiful and we couldn't be happier! Thanks Hardwood Floor Co for being prompt, professional, warm and for exceeding our expectations at every step of the process.

    Hardwood Floor Company
Russ and his crew provide top-notch service.  We are very happy with our refinished hardwood floors.  We live in a 1939 house with vintage flooring, and Russ was able to find the matching pattern to install new flooring in a converted matched the vintage flooring. There were glitches along the way, such as sections of the floor under carpet having been replaced by plywood.  But Russ and his crew were able to deal with all of the issues and we now have beautiful floors.  One thing I should have listened to him about was having him replace the baseboards.  We painted the walls after the floors were refinished, and in retrospect I realized that I should have had them replace the baseboards when they were refinishing the floors. That way the floors could have been refinished all the way to the wall and not just up to the baseboards. But all in all, we are very happy with the work..

    Charmet Tile
I give them a call, I had an evaluation done within 48 hours. They also brought samples of hardwood and tile. They removed my old carpet and tile. Charmet tile was very promptly at their arrival as well as neat. they did a good job on the installation. I will recommend Charmet tile for their good work and customer service.

    My Handyman Crew
EDIT 10/26/2015: Originally mistakenly posted to Mr. Fix-It.  Edited to reflect posting to correct vendor My Handyman Cres

We had the wood floor in our bedroom removed and went with a polished concrete finish - It came out beautiful.  We just needed to have new baseboard installed and this long process would be finished.

I signed up with Angie's List  and settled on the highly rated My Handyman Crew to install new baseboard.   I ended up with new baseboard, along with the requirement to repaint our recently painted bedroom and an expensive reminder that, when dealing with contract work , Caveat emptor!
My Handyman Crew showed up as agreed, looked over the job and did his measurements.  When I contacted My Handyman Crew on the phone I told him that I would provide the new baseboard, but when he showed up,  I asked him if he could supply the materials and gave him a piece of the old baseboard.  He said he could get the baseboard and that he charged a 30% mark-up on materials - I agreed.  I also asked if he could touch-up the baseboard around the rest of the house because the nail holes and corners had not been caulked.

My Handyman Crew showed up several days later along with a worker who he introduced.  He said the worker would be doing the actual installation work.
After a full day, the baseboard was installed in the Bedroom - this was a Friday - and the worker said he would be back on the following Tuesday to finish.  It seemed to me that the job was going slower than I would have expected - a full day of 8+ hours to install ~80 feet of baseboard?  The worker left quite a mess of sawdust and old caulking around the bedroom and patio which we had to clean up.
Before the worker returned, I called My Handyman Crew to find out how much of a bill I was running up and how much more work he expected.  I also let him know that I was concerned about the pace of work and the mess.
Ready .... He informed me that he charged $65 per hour- on top of  the 30% mark-up on materials!
He said he would talk to the worker about the pace of work, and that he would likely charge only for the hours worked to date and finish up the work on Tuesday.

Tuesday, the worker finished in approximately 2 hours then left.  I was surprised when, 5 minutes later, My Handyman Crew showed up at the door - Invoice in hand and the worker tailing along.  Clearly, he was going to COLLECT his money!
He asked me to walk around, and approve the work.  I was surprised, intimidated and unprepared for a final inspection and payment just 5 minutes after the work had finished.  He informed me that he was going to charge for all hours worked and that the amount of billed work was justified because of a transition between the bedroom and bathroom floor where the baseboard had to be trimmed to accommodate the 3/8" higher tile floor in the bathroom.
He followed me around the house with the bill in hand as I looked over the work.  I felt that if I asked for anything to be done the meter would start running and my bill would go up.  As I asked questions or pointed things out, I was careful to state that I was not asking for any additional work.
We went back and forth for a short time with me pointing our that we would have been happier if he would have installed baseboard that covered the old caulk line and him pointing our that I had given him a piece of baseboard and that's what he installed.

I just wanted this over.  It was useless attempting to express any dissatisfaction.

I won't be calling My Handyman Crew again.

    Carpet Outlet Plus
Service representatives were extremely helpful and provided great suggestions. Also made sure the work was done within the next few days. Installers showed up bright and early, worked patiently around house cleaners. Finished quickly and cleaned up all materials. Looked great.

    JLH Construction, Inc.
First the bad then the good. 1. This project took almost 4 months. We were told a few weeks. 2. Communication between the office and workers needs a lot of work. 3. The estimates were confusing as were the details in the final bill. 4. Final touches were slow and I eventually finished the painting myself. 5. Lack of job oversight by the owner of this company. The good; 1. The mold/mitigation work was swift and well done. 2. Overall the finished product is good but for the price not perfect. I expected this to be wonderful and while I like it I don't love it. 3. We were so glad when it was done. 4. Love the shower tile and wood look floor tile. 5. Love the shower door but it isn't perfectly even.

Very friendly sales/office personnel. Really helped make me feel at ease in taking my time to look over the various selections, even allowing me to take home several samples to assist in the decision making process. The work was completed in a timely manner and the  newly painted walls remained untouched. Would definitely hire again.

    Flooring Liquidators - Bakersfield
The Flooring Liquidators on Rosedale wen the extra mile to walk us through a smart decisions about carpet, were kind and patient and full of good humour even when they were clearly busy, and even provided information about other in-home repair contractors that might be useful to me.  They forgot to tell me the carpet tacks would be extra so they didn't charge me.  They were true to their word and price and called to be sure everything was going smoothly before and after the install.  They had the same professional and knowledgeable attitude about my account no matter who I talked to -which we all know is impressive for any service center!
I have to admit when the installers rolled up I got nervous -when you choose their service, they choose the installers.  We had such bad experience with painters a few days previous and real estate agents a few weeks previous, that my nerves shot through me that again we had chosen the wrong service provider.  But to my delight, in 108 degree heat, they were done with all four rooms in a day and the result is fantastic.
They forgot to haul away the old carpet, but I called and they came back to do so within 24 hours.
Stellar all around, especially compared to every other Provider we had to hire to get into our new house.  They were a refreshing breeze in the process.

    Brazilian Direct
They were great and did a beautiful job.  A contractor recommended him.  They were nice and friendly.  They petted the dog.  The price was fair.  I don't think they are cheap, but a very good quality.  They were punctual.

    Michael Flooring,Inc
Micheal's offered very competitive prices when matched up against competitors. Service was prompt and sales associate (owner Benny) were nice to work with. the store provided many samples and a range of price points. We had a few stop and starts with out decision making and Benny was pretty good with this sort of "on off" event.
Benny used an in house contractor to demo our current flooring and baseboard and then install new carpet and laminate. This all went really well. roughly 1500 sq-ft of flooring and demo in about four days.
One complaint was in my initial comparison quotation, I received a quote from Michael's and assumed it was for the exact same product, turned out it was for something of equivalent quality. This bothered me but Benny and I were able to work out the details and from there on out everything went well.
I am happy overall and the product and install are great! There are probably a few other outfits that might be a touch more professional and possibly do better finish work, but Micheal's does bring good product at good value.
    I would use them again.
