Deck Building reviews in Aptos

  • We have a second home with a large cantilevered deck on the 3rd story.  It was a very difficult engineering job and Jason and I discussed how to approach replacing it from every angle possible.  We finally decided to completely remove it and replace it with a deck, of the exact same design, except supported from below.

It was a very difficult job but Jason, as usual, did a stellar job.  The deck is as solid as a rock, looks great and was done on time.  My family is ecstatic with the results.  I won't use another contractor for anything technical like this except Jason.

  • Job was very well managed from permits to clean up. Plans professionally drawn single person on site daily managing progress. Great communication on how project was going and how cost was doing. Len the owner was always approachable with questions and concerns. Professional above all else. The job was the best construction task I have ever had done.

  • Our home had been through 4 separate contractors working on various projects before we were introduced to Seacliff Environmental Services and Construction in 2005. My wife and I could immediately see a difference. The Seacliff Environmental staff was knowledgeable beyond any other contractor services we used before. Our design plans were well thought out and detailed by the expertise of Lennox Smith. He designed projects that were within our budget and scope. He patiently guided us with the eye of an architect and precision of an engineer. His team arrived daily on time as well as being very courteous to my wife and children. They were excellent at making sure they cleaned up at the end of their day. Lennox has always followed up after the completion of each  project to ensure our satisfaction. That is why we will continue to use them for our needs. The next project on our kitchen will be completed this Spring by no one other than Seacliff Environmental Services and Construction.

  • When John had about one more day left on the job, he dropped a bomb on us -- he decided that he had underbid the job and demanded an extra 1-2,000.00 to finish!!! He complained about the drive to our house (we lived in the hills and it was about a 10 minute drive up to our house); that the job took too long and he was losing other jobs. Our response to him was this -- 1) He was in charge of his own bidding process; it was not our fault if he did not know how to bid or he bid incorrectly! 2) He knew what the drive up to our house was on the day he came to give us an estimate! We did not move during the course of the project -- the house was in the exact same place it had always been! 3) It was not our fault he did not hire anyone else for the job! He told us one of his workers flaked out on him -- that was not our fault! 4) He complained that we never offered him water and he was offended by this -- this was not true; I had offered him beverages several times at the beginning of the job; he never accepted, so I stopped offering. 5) It was pointed out to him that we gave him 1/3 of the total amount up front before he started and gave him another 1/3 payment in the middle of the job. We were not going to be held hostage by his last minute demand, which we felt was not only wrong, but possibly illegal. We had to threaten to sue and withhold the last payment to get him to see reason and he was genuinely surprised that we were upset and wanted to sue him! My husband met with him and it was determined that he used a bit more materials than he had quoted and he moved our water spout (where we keep the hose) to a new location which was not in the original bid, so my husband was able to negotiate an additional payment of $300.00 to cover the cost of the extra materials and the labor to move the water spout. However, the way John went about this was very unprofessional. My husband told him NOT to use us as references. He wondered if we had a problem with the quality of the work -- it was because he was, to use outdated vernacular, a head case! Our warning to other consumers is to be careful when dealing with him. We had things in writing (his own writing in fact!) but that did not seem to matter. I did have to call John in Dec of 2008 because the latch on the gate was too low and my young son could reach up and unlatch the gate. He did come out and fix this and was pleasant enough on the phone. He must have a bad memory though, because he left me a message afterwards, wondering if we had anymore work for him!
